  1. Hard to list them in order bc different eras and all, but I'd include Vic, hands down Wilkerson Smart Troy - on pure athleticism Sheehey and just maybe OG. His injury his soph year ended things at IU but a guy who can guard literally anyone, block anyone, dunk on you, and outrun you down the floor merits consideration
  2. SMH. How could you leave this guy out?
  3. I am so looking forward to seeing Newton, healthy. He’s so talented. Really getting overlooked because of the injury. The “if” is if he’s really going to be full boar back, but if he is we’ll be a lot better for it - and I always want to see guys overcome injury
  4. I am not a fan of the 1970s style 2-big lineup, but — with this roster and Woodson’s lineup outlook that’s what we’re doing so looking for a path to success with it, think Timberwolves this year, Gobert and KAT. No, our guys aren’t the same kind of players, but use the perimeter shooting we now clearly have, and we can be dangerous with this team. Pieces are there to compete at the top of the B1G even sticking with the dated 2-big system. Up to Woodson to grow with the improved team, hoping to see it.
  5. Mods if this should be in another thread plz feel free , didn't think this belongs in the Fire Woodson thread but move if/as needed Some highlights from this HT story, maybe "here we go again" should start it, but maybe with room for optimism that he'll get around to instituting a wing and outside game -- Indiana basketball roster remodel gives Mike Woodson flexibility (heraldtimesonline.com) “I’m going to try to play two bigs,” Woodson said, “just to test it.” [ugh] Woodson has larger ambitions on his mind though. Running back last year’s frontcourt rotations isn’t the limit of his thinking.... The Hoosiers might begin games with two bigs, but they’ve certainly got the personnel to flip to smaller lineups that stretch opponents from multiple directions and well beyond the 3-point line. “Just like I played in New York,” Woodson said, referring to his time with the Knicks. “I just haven’t been able to get there, and I think we can this year.” And Woodson said Wednesday he believes Bellarmine transfer forward Langdon Hatton can open his range up as far as the 3-point line in time. “These eight weeks, man, of summer play, will kind of shape where we are as a ball club,” Woodson said, “and give me some kind of indication going into next season.” [some things he'll hopefully see:] Mgbako finished last season greatly improved at both ends of the floor. He scored in double figures in all but two games from the start of February onward and shot 37.8% from 3-point range in league play. After making two or more 3s in just four of IU’s first 13 games in his freshman season, Mgbako managed the feat 13 times in the Hoosiers’ final 20. Goode’s bonafides are long established. A dangerous 3-point shooter, Goode averaged 38.8% from distance across three seasons in Champaign, and shot slightly better than that last season in 157 attempts, far and away his highest single-season volume in college. A McDonald’s All American, Tucker brings midrange skill to the rotation, and with time should become an equally reliable 3-point shooter as well. He might also be the most dynamic of the three. Together, they give Woodson the kind of depth and flexibility he’s not necessarily enjoyed to this point in his Indiana tenure.
  6. Getting lost in this convo, along with lack of job security in the NBA, is that the star players, not the coach, have all the power. How many HC’s have the Lakers had only just recently? Or pick any other strong franchise with star players, if they don’t like the coach he’s out, simple as that. There sre only a select few who are untouchable- Pop being the best example - but he earned it, best coach in the game.
  7. There’s a pretty significant difference in job security college vs NBA. NBA coaches are expected to deliver immediately, doesn’t matter what the contract term is, win now or you’re fired. College coaches generally get 4-5 years to win. And that’s one reason guys at the NBA level consider the move
  8. Yeah this is going to be something to watch, one way NIL may or may not make the college game better by further increasing parity, through good coaches at schools bringing in strong players in the portal and developing teams faster — question there is will it actually negatively impact parity by that happening more at schools like KU who lure the good coaches away from mid tiers etc, which schools don’t have the NIL money and now are losing their talented coaches more. A wait and see
  9. Just saying I’d love to see him in it (regardless)
  10. Man would I love to see OG in this, he would destroy the competition.
  11. Actually there have been some interesting flight schedules recently. A man resembling Stevens reportedly was seen hastily boarding in Indy, carrying a Mother Bears pizza box…. Oh ye of little faith
  12. He was like a walking Debbie Downer, weird years for sure
  13. Yes, RIP Bill Walton
  14. Moved to Btown when I was about 6, first exposure to IU bball was a few years later, the 76 championship, then the 81 Thomas team sealed it for me while in HS, and got to experience our 87 NC while at IU ( nothing gets better than that - don’t tell my wife i said that). Been on the boards since early 2000s, got pulled off one to mod by the late MilehiIU (RIP), was on the predecessors to and then on HSN for years,, came over here a couple or so years ago I think, and enjoy things here. Started out my young lawyer days in DC, big law and a couple boutiques, moved to Houston in 2000, partner here going on 24 years, how time flies. 1 kid now finished at Northwestern, which is undoubtedly enjoying all the money I’ve spent there, probably refinishing the bball court now, another going into his senior year at U of Houston - loves Sampson and didn’t know he’d been at IU, youngest going into her senior year at Vanderbilt where, thank God, she’s on scholarship. I am decidedly envying the above retired talk. I may retire sometime in the next century
  15. Young team, they’re learning what it takes in the playoffs
  16. Can’t stand this Celtics team. That is all.
  17. I don’t think you can quantify level of interest- appreciation of the college game just by looking at viewership numbers. People are going to watch the sport they like as it’s made available. In terms of quality of the game, NIL will probably improve it overall (can make the case it already has), with high level and veteran talent moving broadly to many programs. Is that better for the college game? Depends on what you’re looking at and the things you value and appreciate in the game. Me, I am one who has enjoyed seeing teams — TEAM not just individual athletes— develop along with player development, and recruiting. Balance in veteran players, high level recruiting (which now doesn’t matter as much) and coaching is what kept programs consistently elite — hello, RMK didn’t need NIL to win multiple NC’s, multiple Big Ten championships and consistently put IU in the dance (level of the program fell off in the mid 90s when he valued hunting over recruiting). Kind of like the Olympics. It was amateur sports. The US held out while Russia et al put their pros in play. The Miracle on Ice was a miracle— college kids against the Russians amd Fins, truly special. That’s all gone. Who cares if today’s NBA players win the US a gold medal? I don’t, the Olympics isn’t the same, neither is today’s NIL “college” game.
  18. The FT disparity was glaring and really looked one-sided. P’s should have won. That said that boneheaded TO when they had the ball and were running up the court at the end of regulation with the game pretty much in the bag, and the inbound play where they flat out blew it and knocked the ball back out of bounds on the base line, and then Siakim’s failure to foul before the 3 at the end of regulation— you can’t win on the road in the playoffs making these kind of mistakes— still a young team
  19. These refs are dogsh
  20. Imagine Halibutton in another couple years
  21. Waaayyy too early
  22. Boston crowd is lame. So is Boston.
  23. Haliburton with an almost half court shot to tie it up to end the half. Ice
  24. I believe they set a game 7 1st quarter scoring record. They were on fire. NBA leading offense in full effect
