They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread
HoosierHoopster replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Fire Mike Woodson!! (He says, provocatively, dying of boredom on a hot August afternoon wondering if Bball season will ever start) -
(2024) - Valentyna Kadlecova to IU

^^ Love Moren's identification and addition of foreign players with FIBA / Euro experience. Men's team should follow suit. -
Jackie down the line is one of my favorites of theirs:
-
Have a number of their tunes in my playlists. Good band

That was kind of my reaction but this isn't last year's squad. With this squad, we should expect to win, that's hard for me to do based on where we've been coming into this season, but imo we should be expecting W's. It's on Woodson to deliver them, now.

Some people had vision. :)

Agree with everything until the part about "all" being terrible post Knight. Crean wasn't terrible, you don't have multiple B1G titles/SW 16 runs and be terrible, but no need to recount his whole tenure of ups and downs, Crean couldn't win consistently at IU w/o the elite recruits he needed (after they left for the pros etc.), his recruiting fell apart and he was absolutely terrible at GA.
-
It will come down to consistency just it did with Crean. CTC gave us some great years and some of our all time fav players, and the players liked him, and he got several to the NBA — but he had weaknesses in his on court understanding of the game, his team D, he couldn’t maintain balance in his recruiting and thus couldn’t win consistently, and didn’t get past the SW16 so it was time to move on from him - and he was a lot younger. Woodson can - and must - get on track this season. But even assuming he does, at the level expected with this roster, he’ll have to back it up with consistency going forward. Crean couldn’t. Can Woodson? Open question

Me and pretty much everyone but you Scott. What he did was pathetic. And golly I’ve read Season on the Brink twice, we all know who Knight was, get a grip
-
Lol what? Thin? No Scott, I’m not personally offended by his moronic self centered stupidity on senior night, it’s embarrassing for the U, guess you don’t care our coach makes a complete horse’s azz out of himself showing he thinks he’s above the fans and everyone else including the seniors the night is supposed to be about, thin skinned? Good grief man

100%. No one like him before or now, the length, crazy height and wingspan to go with exceptional mobility, vision, elite skill all around, handle, moves like a guard but can block and dunk all over anyone, incredible facilitator, outside shooting, his game is without any holes. All he needs to do is get stronger, he’s only like 20, just amazing- Think of him at 25. If he stays healthy he will dominate the League, Hell it’s already clear no one can stop him one on one and he’s still getting better. It’s nuts
-
I think you meant PURDUE **#%#^*** SUCKS
-
Wait, what did you say in the asterisks?
-
I would agree with this Scott, except for his ridiculous, embarrassing, self-centered stupid attack on the fans during senior night, making it about himself instead of the seniors, so absurd and embarrassing. I’m on the fence but leaning out wanting him to move on because of his rigid, stubborn insistence on running a 2-big front-court system while virtually ignoring outside shooting. I am hoping we see a much improved system— not just individual plsy - this season that emphasizes the improved backcourt and shooting to open the floor and our overall offense. That would swing me well over the fence back to Woodson

Another Archie Miller fail, lol. And this is the big (no pun intended) question for Woodson and our direction next year, and it's not just Goode, but get the kid looks please.: Last season, Indiana ranked 255th nationally in 3-point shooting percentage at 32.4. The Hoosiers scored just 20.9 of their points on 3s, which ranked 355th in the country. Just 27.8 percent of IU’s field goal attempts were 3-pointers last season. That ranked 351st nationally. It’s to be determined if Indiana will increase its 3-point volume in any meaningful way next season, but the Hoosiers are better equipped to make more perimeter looks with Goode on the roster. And from Goode: “You kind of always got to have a shooter on the floor, in my opinion,” Goode told Sleepers Media. “You got to be able to space the floor in today’s college basketball game, especially with big guys. If we’re going to potentially play Malik and (Ballo) at the four and five, then you got to have guys around them that can shoot.” Yes, thank you.

Should he stay or should he go now Should he stay or should he go now if he goes there will be trouble if he stays it will be double so come on and let me know should he stay or should he go

I agree Smith is good, but really for me how good, without Edey, is an open question, and I agree Loyer's a bit overrated. In fairness to PU, we didn't see Edey coming. We didn't think he'd be as dominant as he was. Does PU have another surprise big? I don't see a player at PU that can command that kind of inside attention, but I feel snake bit. Glad Edey's gone (and I continue to think his NBA career will be underwhelming FWIW), and do think PU will be nowhere near as good, but man, no surprises please.

Siap, from 8/5 - Borzello's way too early top 25: https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/39895473/mens-college-basketball-way-too-early-top-25-rankings-2024-25-season Has PU at 16, noting "Matt Painter still has an elite backcourt in Braden Smith and Fletcher Loyer; Smith vs. Mark Sears is terrific." Elite backcourt? IU at 18: Nov. 27-29 Battle 4 Atlantis: There's not a ton of excitement on the Hoosiers' nonconference schedule, but their trip to the Bahamas is a chance for Mike Woodson's talented roster to live up to the expectations placed on them. Gonzaga and Arizona will enter the tournament as favorites, but there's an opportunity to see whether Malik Reneau and Oumar Ballo can dominate down low. Projected starting lineup Myles Rice (14.8 PPG at Washington State) Kanaan Carlyle (11.5 PPG at Stanford) Mackenzie Mgbako (12.2 PPG) Malik Reneau (15.4 PPG) Oumar Ballo (14.2 PPG at Arizona)

I just want volume and more emphasis on guard play with the exceptionally improved backcourt. We’re not going to be a 38-39% 3 point ball club, but we don’t have to be. Just integrate the 3-ball as a real part of the O and we’ll be so much better both outside and in. Spacing. Let the basic math be recognized in the scheme.

“Hopefully, we’ll have something to cheer about, it’s about time.” and ”most importantly, they can knock down tje three.” Yes, please.

Hey, that’s straight beautiful. I’d never seen it, thx for posting it.
