Personally, I like seeing things differ year by year. I want to see the team scrimmage -- the early look at how players look, who's healthy, what lineups look like / who is playing with whom -- but it's also good to see HH a hyped event, and it's very much part of the picture that IU needs to compete with the other big programs, see UK etc. running their pre-season midnight madness events.

Say what you will about the ranking (someone should hand it to Woodson), but this season will determine just how inaccurate, or accurate, it is for Woodson. I think pretty much everyone agrees at least going into the season that there are no excuses -- with this roster IU should compete for the B1G, and a good NCAA tourney run (however you want to define that).

Also curious, how long will the Fire Mike Woodson thread get? :)

I get that, but no way this roster is 10th in the B1G, that's really kind of absurd right? Then again if we were to end up 10th, Woodson's firing shouldn't be a question.

That's just a reflection of KenPom rankings turning on the prior season -- at this point, pre-season, his rankings are useless (you probably already know that, just pointing it out given how meaningless it is at this point)

1. How much time will 4 out 1 in lineups get? We’ll start Ballo - Malik, but then one will rest and we’ll see some other (more diverse, less predictable, and ultimately better for tourney play) lineups- but for how much time? How much will Woodson adjust now that we clearly have the players to do so. 2. impact of Rice. Can’t wait to see it. 3. Jakai - gamechanger if he’s full bore. Cautiously optimistic. The way he could change the way we play…. 4. Ballo bullying PU. A smile on my face. 5. Will Gallo be a 6th man off the bench? Would be a major change really in Woodson’s thinking.

For me you can stop assessing in the B1G. Top half would be major underachievement with this roster — our new point guard alone should have a lot to say about that. March Madness is generally a crapshoot and largely about matchups. This team should make the SW16, at least, but if Woodson’s coaching sucks so badly that this team underperforms in the B1G, that will then of course result in the lower NCAA seed then causing a more difficult tournament run and probably an earlier exit. Woodson needs to show he can coach a balanced offense, so the team can more likely finish conference play closer to its ceiling than its floor. If that happens we’ll have the better record we all want and March will take care of itself

Exactly the kind of thing I’ve been waiting to hear. Newton has been an afterthought for many bc of his injury, and not saying those remaining injury questions aren’t warranted, but man this kid is a real talent, so hoping he comes into the season healthy and stays healthy, lots of potential, and we’ve already seen him in a red jersey in practice

A real plus on the recruiting trail. Good to see it's continuing, and with good publicity.
