Good game and nice to get gold but no miracle on ice for me, that team winning with college players was incredible. They’re all pros now. Love the power play and OT play though - outstanding. Back when I played we played in the state championship game and lost at the end but only after scoring 2 goals during a power play rush in the last 2-3 minutes, the energy and rush of power play minutes is crazy

The starting point problem here is the assumption DeVries’ recruiting after his late hire with 0 staff was strategic. IU had just once again missed the tournament, had 8 years of mediocre results, had 0 returning players, players recruited to Woodson’s failed front-court non-outside shooting teams, zero staff. That’s the opposite of hitting the ground running. If we make the tourney (I think we will), which is step 1 on this obvious complete rebuild, he’ll have a year of budding success grounded in high output 3-point shooting/ guard play and a staff in place and returning players to add pieces to in a system already in place. This offseason (and next) is very important but no reason to tie it conceptually to last year, as if DeVries would go chasing mid-tier players. He’ll chase the best with more time to get them. He knows we’re undersized for the B1G, he knows we need more athletic forwards. He landed Wilkerson and beat UK to get him, that’s the kind of guard he wants, who he’ll pursue and how many forwards remains to be seen but what he was able to do starting with nothing is not somehow the model

Also that Boeheim cheated, including bringing in academically unqualified players and disregarding various then governing ncaa rules, is now pretty well recognized. Not a fan.

So glad Hummel wasn’t on that game. Bright side to anything lol. On to the next one. MSU on the horizon. Make the tourney. Build the roster for next season this time with an intact staff and returning players and coming off the tourney and with the time to do it. Horrible loss, but it’s one game and we beat them already.

I hate Wiscy — but I’ll root for them now -
Another great one passes away, hard for me to grasp he was 95. Redford, Connery. Hackman.Eastwood’s looking over his shoulder

Yeah that’s a joke - KSU will lose

Yeah except it wasn’t reaction time it was Buckner/ BOT’s keeping Woody in for the 4th year. Terrible decision but it was always clear that was going to happen

Only quibble here is the NCAA committee sometimes seems to just disregard conf tourneys -

USPS has this stuff down much better than me, but imo it comes down to quality of the W's not 20 wins. If we lose to both MSU and PU, but beat OSU we'd be 11-9 in conf, that may be enough but not sure on quality of W's, might then be a bubble team. If we somehow were to lose to OSU (I don't think we will), I don't think 10-10 gets us in with that last loss. I posted earlier I wasn't optimistic on a 11-9 finish -- totally miscalculated then. Can't see us finishing worse than 11-9, that's with losses to PU and MSU, and I am cautiously optimistic that we'll beat MSU and end up 12-8 -- that should squarely get us in, imo. -
Fair - but let's say you have a game with the same players on each team. Do you want Archie or Woody coaching your team? CAM is pretty bad, but I'd take him 10 times out of 10 against Woody. What coaching did Woody ever do?? this convo is probably getting old to the Board. Lol
-
Record wise yes. Woody had TJD. Archie has an injured star guard. Woody didn’t “coach” at all.

A race to the bottom between Woody and Jordan would be a neck and neck race, but it wouldn’t be hard fought, it’d be a battle of who could put less effort into it….
