Transfer Portal w/IU Interest
HoosierHoopster replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
And we have a stud 2027 point guard coming in and that class will likely improve as we show better this season. Building blocks are there -

I'd laugh but then I'd also agree lol -

Again agree we're thin at point, but Lindsay wouldn't be playing 38 min at point if Burton were to go down, likely would be shared on ball responsibility with Moody (who has some on ball experience) and probably Harris or Mustaf (not ideal for sure, but don't see Monden playing any real time) -

I'm in the camp of wanting further depth especially at point as I've been posting, but disagree we don't have "any depth whatsoever." Our depth is definitely limited but there is some, going to require some well thought out subbing, maybe -- Burton - Lindsay - Moody (these strike me as most likely to play on-ball roles, not sure of others) Lindsay - Harris - Monden Mustaf - Moody - Karvala Sherrell - Sisley - Manhertz Yigi - Sisley - Sokolov -
IU 2026-7 freshman comps
HoosierHoopster replied to RaceToTheTop's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Sometimes it is sometimes it isn’t. Rankings, call it composite, can be based on any number of things in a player, shooting, overall standout play, floor vision / lead guard play, athleticism, sometimes on pro “potential” based on raw athleticism (think Hanner etc), rim protection, etc. but lots of players are ranked on skills who do not have college ready bodies and strength, that happens regularly. Just because a player is ranked high doesn’t mean he’s physically ready to bang with college vets. -

The comps are interesting and thanks for posting, but if we’re just or mostly looking at common rank that will ignore body, strength / physique - general readiness for college/ B1G play - Moody is one of the lowest ranked but most consider him the most likely to be ready to contribute. Makes sense guards are more likely to pan out with the comps - bigs whose bodies aren’t really ready won’t play much, etc. -

Mostly agree other than the magically save part. We don't have an on ball backup, that's the point (pun intended). Many posts here have been looking for another big who is more than a developmental guy. Is that magical? There are and have been guys in the portal who fit the bill for a backup point, and how many minutes depends on how the minutes are distributed on ball and across the floor. Do we have a guy now who can keep the team afloat if Burton goes down? I don't know, maybe one of these guys like Lindsay can fit that bill, he seems the most likely, I'd just like some more balance on ball as it doesn't matter how many bigs you have if you don't have a good floor general. -

Neither is an on ball guard and Moody's just a frosh but yeah that seems to be the plan... I'd almost bet on Burton missing some games, he's going to be balling hard and he's going to get hit in the B1G, plus he's coming back from missing the bulk of last season. A lot of focus on bigs but if Burton goes down we could tank fast. -

Yeah we're thin at point. Burton's health is key and he's coming off missing most of last season Moody is not a point, though he's apparently grown more of his combo-g game. Lyndsay is straight 2. I've been hoping we add a backup on-ball guard to go with a big. -

I was asking about backup point, not just general guard. We're thin on on ball guards. -

If you watch his clips he has played a number of games against P5 teams, Texas etc. Don’t know much about him and clearly not thinking he’s in the top 9-10 but seems like he may have experience that could give him some floor time in spots -

Just my useless op, think our 3-pt shooting will be better than expected and not as much of a drop off as some are expecting, with the spacing and inside - out opportunities that come with Sherrell and Yigi and Burton driving. Lindsay’s a career 38% deep shooter, 36% at Vill, Harris is something of an unknown due to limited floor time at Duke but the dude was a highly coveted HS recruit due to his demonstrated shooting (Bossi was really high on him as a “great shooter”) and his stroke is pure and at 6’6 he shoots well over the D, and Burton’s not too bad at 33% career outside shooting (shot 37% in 2024-25). DeVries likely will green light outside shots from those who show good shooting going into the season. The strength of the inside game also comes from having spacing created by outside shooting. The clogged lanes and complete lack of spacing from the moronic Woodson all front court game is gone. What we should have a lot more of now is balance with an inside game that benefits from the threat of outside shooting as well as the size and athleticism our forwards now bring, and outside shooting that benefits from those same forwards/center. -
Bryce Lindsay IS A HOOSIER!!
HoosierHoopster replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Yep, he's a demonstrated high percentage outside shooter including in P5 ball with high usage. While Wilkerson's shoes are hard to fill, this team won't be playing 5-out, though still incomplete we now have legit size and solid experience up front, guys like Lindsay will have better spacing and looks. We have the makings of a solid inside-out and balanced offense. -

^^ His shooting from the arc is better than just looking at his career totals "He is one of 30 players to make at least 160 3-pointers and shoot better than 37.5% from distance over the last two seasons combined." -

Agree. Roster isn’t complete, still need to add some depth of forwards (and imo on ball guard) but it’s a better and deeper roster already. Should make the tourney -

I understand where you're coming from, but Carr is a scouter of talent/fit, it's what he did for the P's and bringing in the right players from the portal -- not just picking guys ranked well in the portal (like Woodson did, regardless of fit) is a type of scouting. It's how their games relate to what staff wants to run, how they compliment each other, how their styles fit. But yes the work isn't done (imo) let's see how their complete roster pans out. -

I'd say the staff's scouting and addition of the top 3 portal class (so far) along with the 2026 recruiting class is part of their earning their keep (or not), but agree it's pretty clear they're looking for depth with supporting bench players who may outperform their rankings/perceived portal value. Do hope they add another on-ball player to go with another big or versatile wing, very interested to see how the portal class ultimately shapes up. -

Personally I'd like a real backup/bench point to go w/a big, don't really have a feel for Lindsay's ability to run point Edit - I don't know much about his game on ball, have seen him classified as a PG and also just as a guard, averaged under 3 APG at Villanova, I take it a combo guard. I feel better about about where we are on ball after reading up on him, but still think we need another on ball guard - jmo -
