They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread
Home Jersey replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Mullins going elsewhere does not make me say fire MW in itself, but it is further evidence that he struggles with HS recruits, even when he invests a lot of time in them. He’s better in short term recruitments and the portal. Probably a combination of many things… personal preferences, concerns about style of play/fit on both sides of the ball… I don’t think his age works against him as much as his lack of energy, maybe charisma. We are fortunate in that our NIL resources and the new portal rules give us a chance to be competitive each year despite the… inherent… challenges. If you want a skill or capability in a company, you can build, buy, or borrow it… this staff should just put all its energy into buying/borrowing talent. For whatever reason, they don’t generally win the long term HS recruiting battles. -
Braylon Mullins (2025) SG - to UConn

Lot can happen between now and the 23rd or whenever he’s slated to actually announce. More and more I’m tuning out of these periods between the finalists being named and the school being chosen, partly because of how toxic the IU Twitter community has become this offseason and partly because I’m ultimately most interested in whoever ends up on the roster next season. Can deal without the drama of those who don’t. Not calling anyone dramatic, people have to do what’s best for themselves. Just want to focus on those that think they can do that in Bloomington. -
17 days til our first look in the exhibition vs UT. 27 days til the first real game vs SIUE Wednesday Nov 6. Another exhibition between Marian and Pat Knight on Nov 1. So damn ready for Hoosier basketball

He’s just trying to keep his team motivated, hard to find bulletin board material coming off back to back chips. People are kidding themselves if they think Hurley is uniquely threatened by/“negative” recruiting IU and not simply giving an objective telling of facts/the lay of the land, as he sees it. That’s his pitch. He’s doing the same thing to illinois with Furphy right now. When you’re “king” you think you can have anything you want, taking it from someone is a flex. Hurley is trying to flex on the CBB landscape for another 1-3 years before he is coaching an east coast NBA team, probably. -
(2025) - PF Eric Reibe to UConn

Really funny first couple of posts on a forum you signed up for lol. I get the sentiment about sometimes just wanting to see news. Forums aren’t the best place for that. Just keep an eye on news outlets. When it comes to recruiting, actual news is few and far between. The rest of the time is like fishing… waiting patiently. Having a sense of humor can help pass the time. Come basketball season, there’s plenty of actual sports talk around here. -
I’m officially ready for basketball season to start. Hopefully the season has some overlap with football this year. Being aware of recruiting news is nice but I can’t care too much about every new “development” on that front given nobody really knows what’s going on and rosters turn over so much every year now. I care about the guys we DO get, and couldn’t care less about the ones we don’t. With the portal and our NIL, we can field a competitive team each year regardless of any given HS recruit. I’m cautiously optimistic about this season and am ready to see the team in action. I hope they surpass our expectations.

https://x.com/IndianaMBB/status/1842923137240842585/video/1 Little hype video from pro day, can’t see anything of note really… seasons getting closer! The wait goes a lot quicker when the football team is winning like this!

Considering we still have Purdoodoo on the schedule, it’s lookin good

I shared a lot of frustration on here with Dolson at the end of last basketball season. Not sure how much of it was truly warranted/attributable to him personally at the end of the day. The Cignetti hire and his performance thus far, certainly makes me more inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt. Good hire Scott. Damn good.

I’m so happy this team in year 1 is as good and fun to watch as it is. The direction of the program means so much for the athletic department and university in the long run, if it can be sustained and continue flourishing. I for one am putting my NIL dollars where my mouth is after last weeks win secured this historic season opening streak.

Purdon't picked to win the Big Ten
Home Jersey replied to Loaded Chicken Sandwich's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I expect a well coached Purdue team this year that has some talent... but not as much as they did last year/we do this year... and will need some time to form their new identity in the post-Edey era. I'd be sort of surprised if they were serious contenders in the conference this year but certainly not an "easy" win. On paper, we should kick their butts this season. -
(2025) QB - Julian Lewis to Colorado (for now)

Think it would be more significant from a street cred perspective than roster value at this point as others have said. Would be a statement signing that makes people say “woah” -
(2025) SF - Winters Grady to Michigan

That would obviously be a tremendous haul if we can swing it. Love seeing us going after shooters and going head to head in recruiting battles with UConn. Gives me some more confidence about the talent evaluation / roster prioritization. Think Hurley said one of the things he’s learned at UConn and the key to their success, has been that he now only recruits kids who can shoot the ball at all 5 positions. No exceptions. Will be interested to see how they do this year… obviously don’t bet against Hurley but their frontcourt seems like a potentially substantial weakness. -
Cig may try to make up the entire point differential for the 12 games we’re trailing in the series, all on Saturday. Lol
