Didn’t there used to be a salary cap in baseball? The sport really needs to do something about the spending sprees from each of the coasts. The lack of competitive parity is growing by the day.

He was out of eligibility no? Pretty sure he was a senior. -

If I remember correctly Kiffin brought in a big number of transfers last year to try and compete right away. Many were one year eligibility guys so it’s likely they have some immediate playing time to offer along with a bunch of NIL. -
They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread
JerryYeagley23 replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Didn’t Tamar Bates have like 30 in an upset of #1 Kansas the other day too? Either those guys are thriving under new systems or they all just so happened to suck for Woody and miraculously are good against top teams a year after leaving IU. -

I see the Thieneman (sp?) to Oregon news and honestly that kind of concerns me. Unless it was a strictly NIL that couldn’t be done move, we should be getting Purdue’s best players easily with our success this year and it being such an easy recruit and change for the player. Unpopular opinion, we need to leverage and then leave behind the plucky, under-appreciated non power 5 player model as soon as possible. Yes, Cig is a great coach and has had success with guys with a chip on their shoulders. No, I don’t think that’s a sustainable model if we really want to leap into the upper echelon of the conference perennially. You have to use your success to move the program forward. Our women’s bball program is dealing with this hard truth currently. Lighting in a bottle isn’t easy to catch, and even the best coaches can’t turn 3-star talent into national championship contenders consistently. Lots of programs have had their fleeting success only to fall back. I remember Northwestern making a rose bowl in the late nineties only to become irrelevant inside of five years. Our model needs to be the Gonzaga model. Used to be a Cinderella story in March Madness. Had a couple underdog teams that overachieved. Great coach. But turned the program into a mainstay by getting regular five star talent and transfers BECAUSE they had a great coach. Now they’re a new “blue blood” every year. My fear is that we rely on the theory that Cig’s a good coach and can get “more out of less” and continue prioritizing high production mid-major guys and our luck runs out and we fall back in line. What I want is for us to strike while the iron is hot and create a winning culture with better talent that has less risk of a downside so to speak. Rant over. But I’m bookmarking this and hoping not to have to point back to it in five years. I desperately want to have a football program that gives us this excitement and joy year in and out. I hope we do just that but also can see how this season becomes a flash in the pan if we assume it can be easily repeated. Go IU. Beat ND. Sorry to let the bourbon type for me tonight. -
This is my biggest concern for this game as well. I think we can play with them, but we haven’t been great with mobile QBs this season that can get outside the tackles. I want to say the Northwestern game we let their QB run all over us in the first half to keep things close. I don’t know if the college systems ever use a “spy” but hopefully our staff is planning something to keep him under control. I’d hate to see us waste good coverage by letting him out of the pocket consistently for first downs when we should be getting off the field.

A buddy of mine told me rumor has it that Carson Beck tore his UCL in his elbow and is done for the season. Grapevine stuff, so take it with a grain of salt.

It’s actually sort of funny their fanbase would have to google our season to find out what a year we’re having. I live squarely in SEC country down here in Georgia, and have far and away heard more chatter about IU being a legit, fundamental football team than anything about ND. Frankly people around the country have little reason to pay attention to ND with them not being in a conference. Doesn’t help that they’re considered a joke in postseason games. Didn’t they lose like 13 straight bowl games at one point? I hope they are feeling overly confident. Because my “inside sources” Down here are already telling me they’d rather play ND than a hungry and well coached IU team. And that’s coming from fans that talk down to the Bama and Clemsons of the world regularly.

I just don’t think they will drop TX that far down with an overtime loss in the SEC championship game. They were number 2. Putting them below OSU and ND who didn’t have to play an extra game seems like a bad precedent. I’d say TX goes to the 5-seed. Same sentiment for PSU losing a close one to Oregon. Think the committee tries not to punish them and keeps them at 6. If you start dropping runners up in championship games 4-5 places there’s gonna be more backlash and potential teams forfeiting games in the future. I have 5 - Texas 6 - PSU 7 - ND 8 - OSU 9 - TN 10 - IU 11- Clemson 12- SMU/Bama

They didn’t just lose to Oklahoma either, they scored 3 points against them. That’s effectively getting shutout by a 5-5 team. That’s a really bad loss.

Call me crazy but this would be my dream scenario for IU this year. A short trip to a ND team that I feel is overrated and beatable in a familiar climate in-state. And then Georgia on a nuetral field where I think they have been a very inconsistent team all year. I live in GA, and even the most die-hard dawg fans have said this doesn’t feel like the GA teams of the past few years, and every game it feels like they only play half a game. We could very easily punch them in the mouth early and then get a few Carson Beck turnovers and they start chasing the game. Let’s see what they do tomorrow, but I could see them liking and in-state rivalry game for tv ratings with IU/ND.

It’s all about money. Nobody wants to see a third GA/TX game. I guarantee some thought will be given to good television and travel matchups. Remember this is a business. That’s why I think they figure out a way to have IU at Notre Dame. We shall see.

Any relation between this Oladipo playing for Boise St and Vic? Kid makes plays.
