American HoosierX replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Are you watching the same game as me? He is completely clueless on defense...he is terrible at hedging and getting back to his man. He also doesn't attempt to box out or fight for position to rebound the ball. They could have called an illegal screen 3 separate times on the play they called the one they did. -
Evan Eschmeyer at Northwestern was another one I believe. Or at least it seemed like he was around forever to my 10 year old self.

I'm not a medical professional, but it is really hard to fathom the hit that Rob took needing more than 2 weeks to clear protocol. I agree with you and think that maybe the Kevin Wilson debacle has led to more stringent guidelines when it comes to player safety.
-
I'm curious as to your reasoning. But worry not, he will not get an offer from a power 5 school anytime soon.

Someone seems to be notably absent from blame...hmmm.

Thomas Bryant - Cleveland Cavaliers
American HoosierX replied to HoosierHoops1's topic in Hoosiers in the Pros
I'm sure the article mentioned it but it was the first time since Walt Chamberlain that someone has had that many made field goals without a miss. -
I have to admit, I don't have a major issue with what Joe is saying. Unless I am misreading his posts, it doesn't appear to me as if he is arguing that Marquette should be ranked ahead of IU. What is he is arguing is that media members are voting based on perception, which naturally is going to be filled with human biases (OK I added that last part). To me he is not defending whether the voters are voting the right way, but rather why they are voting the way they are.

Was anyone else impressed with the elevation Phinisee got on that last shot? -

American HoosierX replied to Beachfront Property's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
I agree with statement 1. I think statement 2 is revisionist history. Most (all?) of the '19 guys had made their choice before Phinisee ever played a game. -
That analysis is incredibly simplistic. Do you honestly believe it is easier to shoot a higher percentage when you are the team's main option and need to carry the scoring load? When was the last time IU had a player average 20 points a game? Eric Gordon? Want to guess what his field goal % was? There isn't a single person on this board that thought Edwards was NPOTY worthy. Are you patting yourself on the back because he isn't averaging 38 points a game while shooting 60% from the field? What did you expect him to do on this year's Purdue team?

He's averaging 25 points a game and has been pretty consistent. You predicted that he wouldn't be a perfect player? Good for you.

American HoosierX replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
He clearly stated he didn't have any info and then speculated, which is 97% of what is done on a message board. Anyone reading it with basic reading comprehension skills knew it was an uninformed opinion. The fact that he was called out for it is literally dumb. -
(2019) SF Keion Brooks Jr. to Kentucky
American HoosierX replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
That's not totally correct. You could add two more armaan franklins and our ranking would improve. Only having 3 is a big reason we would be at 13 -
(2019) SF Keion Brooks Jr. to Kentucky
American HoosierX replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
I've long had this opinion. It's part of the reason Crean was thought of as such a great recruiter. We had huge turnover and large classes. It also fueled the whole "you can win championships without great recruiting ala Villanova." Villanova always recruited quality players but also had small class sizes. -
(2019) PF Trayce Jackson-Davis to INDIANA
American HoosierX replied to Uspshoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Are you basing that off the fact that it's been widely reported? -
I don't think your acknowledgement of the counter-argument does it justice in terms of short-term vs long-term gains involved with investing in the sports program. If steering money away from athletics curbs the growth of the athletic program in terms of both performance and financial success, it is bad for academics and sports long-term. Of course I don't know the right balance, but I also don't think a blanket statement of diverting funds to the academic side ultimately fulfills our purpose is necessarily correct either.

American HoosierX replied to OliviaPope40's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Look I really like Archie and think he is the guy for the next 20 years. However, it drove me nuts when Crean apologists constantly grabbed onto anything they could to try to defend the guy. Fatigue is a poor excuse for us playing terrible in the first half against UC Davis or Duke. Plus you have plenty of coaches that have been pretty successful running 7-8 man rotations. I don't think "fatigue" explains away many of our current issues. -

Well boredom is one way to take Duke's crowd out of the game! -

That is a great question. I don't think Smith is near physical enough to try to guard Zion, but I'm not sure there is a better option. To be fair, his combination of size and quickness is a tough matchup for anyone in the country. -

I think you need to swap “mental toughness” for “character.” I see those as being two different things.
