Romeo Langford - BCM Gravelines Dunkerque
DChoosier replied to Trish's topic in Hoosiers in the Pros
Lotto would be nice but all of the 30 first rounders have guaranteed two year deals with another two years at the teams option. In the 2018 draft the first year pay for the 10th pick was 3,553,000, 14th pick (last lotto pick) $2,894,000 and the 18th pick got $2,357,000. Dropping from 10th to 18th would cost him 1.2 million, the first year, but he would still be able to afford an apartment without a roommate:) -

Yes, Archie knew we needed help/depth underneath, we were in the midst of losing 12/13 which I assume Archie desperately wanted to stop, but he still did not give Moore or Jake decent playing time. There was a reason (or many reasons) that Archie felt they were not ready. On top of that Race comes back after missing 80% of the season and immediately gets more time than either of them. Race will be one of our “get old” guys (hopefully) and I don’t think we will miss Moore or Jake at all ( I wish them them the best). -

He does need to turn around football (to the relatively limited extent that is possible). Maybe it is more correct to say he has to strive to make incremental improvements. Wilson improved the program somewhat as the offense improved and then, as DC, Allen was instrumental in improving the defense. The result was that we scared some good teams but Wilson very rarely beat any good, or even average, Big Ten teams. Yes, we went to bowls his last two seasons at 6-6 each time. A big factor for squeaking into the bowls is that Purdue was historically terrible. The “improved” Wilson teams won a whopping total of 7 BT games in his last three seasons and 3/7 of those wins were against Hazell at PU (Hazell’s BT record was 3-24 ). One of Wilson’s major weapons was being lucky enough to be the coach when PU was dreadful. As Old Friend mentioned our division is a virtually impossible mountain to climb and the QB situation really hampered Allen. I think the jury is still out on Allen but think we have to realistically look at who Wilson beat in his tenure. A lot of asterisk wins (ie we almost beat UM, wow we scared OSU) but very few actual good wins. -

I agree. Maybe we should pull TJD’s offer and go after Evansville Bosse’s back-up center...LOL -
Cash Cal perfectly leverages going to UCLA for even more $$$ from two-tooth nation.

It will happen again. Just hope your not eligible for a senior discount when it does. I kid, I kid. -
Could be. Like I said I haven’t looked in 5 or 6 or so years. The starting point was around when IU won in 1981 (which was right around when burger boys started) and 3/5 of our starters on that team were burger boys. In any case, TT making the FF without a single healthy top 100 player is quite an achievement.

No problem. And yes I 100% agree that some lower ranked players end up better than higher ranked guys. Recruiting is a numbers game. I would guess that 100 highly ranked players turn out better, on average, than 100 low ranked players but there are certainly exceptions (in both directions) within that top 100. It is hard to measure a guys heart, desire to get better, physical/mental changes and progress between Freshman and Senior years. -
That is really amazinging/admirable/cool. I have not looked in 5 or 6 years but do know that at one point something like 22/23 championship teams in a row had at least one burger boy (the lone exception, at that time, was the 2002 MD team that beat IU). Going to the FF without a single healthy top 100 is quite an achievement.

2019 General Recruiting Thread
DChoosier replied to Uspshoosier's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Henry was a Rivals four star that had offers from 4 Big Ten schools, Xavier, Butler and others....... I’m not complaining about Archie’s offer nor do I care about the lack of stars. Just wondering why an Indiana All Star that is a dead eye 3 point shooter, can create his own shot, has good size, was visible being on TJD’s AAU team and playing in Indy, did not attract offers from any power schools or ISU/Ball State/Valpo etc. etc. I have never seen him play so I think that’s a legitimate question. Maybe he just slipped through the cracks, greatly improved his senior year....Just was asking/wondering. -
Get your point, and agree his model is not like Dukes and UK’s, but Roy has tried like hell to get plenty of projected “one and dones” like Zion Williamson, Romeo, Brooks, Little (who he signed) and has also signed some projected one and dones that ended up being multiple year players.

When we are relevant again and start going to the tourney on a regular basis :) EDIT: Maybe it would take IU winning the tourney 8 years in a row :) Even then, there would probably be complaints about the 9th year..... -
2019 General Recruiting Thread
DChoosier replied to Uspshoosier's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
I’m all for bringing in the kid if the staff feels he meets a need and can play. I have ZERO idea if he is any good. My only hesitation (just one data point) was not his low ranking but that other college coaches saw him play on TJD’s AAU team, saw him shoot, play hard-nosed, but for some reason none of the power conference coaches offered him a ride. No decent offers is not the end of the world but that one data point (out of many) led to a little concern/hesitation. If he has improved, fits a need, etc let’s sign him. PS. Oladipo’s low ranking is often used as an example. He certainly over achieved, in a huge way, but he was also evaluated by coaches while in high school that resulted in offers from Maryland, Marquette, Notre Dame, Missouri, Xavier etc. -

In my case the Priller reference was more of a joke, rather than thinking this kid is Priller, as I still can’t believe we signed a player that only had an offer from Incarnate Word. That was just unbelievable. -

DChoosier replied to CrossboneIU22's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I’m not balking, as I do not know anything about him, but just a bit suprised to see him pop up on the radar solely because no other decent programs have gone after him (I.e. do we know something about his skills that literally no other power program knows? ). Many seem to think Leal is marginal but he is also 6”5’ (I know he is a 2020) and has been offered by Maryland, Iowa, Butler, Stanford, etc. as opposed to Georgia State, IUPUI and MAC’s. That being said,...he has good size, sounds like he is a good shooter and if the staff thinks he fills a need I say come on down. Who knows, Goins of MSU was a freshman walk-on and is now a contributing senior that hit a HUGE shot tonight against Duke. -
This is almost hard to believe/accept but IU’s last 7 Elite 8 appearances took place from 1976 to this year. I actually regret looking that up.

I’m more worried about Middle Tennessee State and IUPUI. In fairness we should not judge by the other schools involved. Don’t forget that we had to beat out Incarnate Word to land one of the most popular IU players in the last 10 years. -

Since he was released from Georgia State the Indy Star reported IU, Tulane (where Hunter went), Kent State, Loyola and Middle TN State have reached out to him. That’s a little different recruiting swimming pool for us. -

Thanks for the info and glad to hear he is a good shooter. The rankings don’t bother me but the fact that not a single power conference team, or decent mid-major, offered him makes me wonder. -

Have you seen him and/or know anything about him? Only having 5 offers from just Georgia State, IUPUI and 3 MAC schools seems a bit scary on the surface. -
It was nice to watch a game in which every bump 30 feet out was not called.
