(2020) PG Ethan Morton to Purdue
DChoosier replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
According to the Pittsburgh paper Archie had another home visit with Morton a little over a week ago. Morton is a PG while Leal and Galloway are SG’s. The staff worked hard to get Morton. I think we just plain lost, which happens in recruiting, rather than backed off. -
Recruiting.

I like the Villanova model. This year they have the 4th rated class with two 5 stars (and two 4 stars) and last year they had the 9th rated class with one 5 star (and three 4 stars) :) -
I’d like to know their criteria. No UVA, NYU, Michigan or MIT. San Jose State, Fairfield and Richmond are ranked higher than UPenn... LOL.

(2019) SG Lester Quinones to Memphis
DChoosier replied to ap2345's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Many good points but to me he does not seem to be intentionally following point 1 as he has offered a dozen guards (landing Franklin) and seemed pretty intent on using the scholarships. Even though his”win-rate” for guards has been poor this year I’m glad he hasn’t gotten so desperate to fill the vacancies “no matter what” by going the Galon etc route. -
(2019) SG Lester Quinones to Memphis
DChoosier replied to ap2345's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Yep, Wat reached out when everything was blowing up (Bama fired Johnson, Wade cheating comes out, Duke shuffling around but they were also going after Hurt, etc) and we probably looked like a good back-up/emergency/insurance plan. The fact that he has not found the time for an official visit tells you all you need to know. I have no idea but would bet he ends up at Bama as he seems to like the new coach and the PG stayed. Memphis is on the verge of getting a ton of talent but I would bet that he does not want to share the ball/limelight with 4 other guys. -
Potentially lying to save your own skin is one thing but there are many comments made on tapped phones in which people were not saving themselves (ie, they did not know they were being recorded, or testifying to save themselves, when they implicated Miller). In regards to part of your point, however, there are no recordings of Sean himself saying things or players directly implicating Sean. He seems guilty as hell, and the program is filthy, but he still might skate. All we can do is step aside and watch the NCAA go after Cal Poly of Southeastern Fresno for providing one extra meal a month.

I did not expect the return to former glory. I did expect a team, in year two, to play hard in more than half their games. You can call us headed towards “hot garbage” but a team that beat MSU twice and had Romeo/Morgan should not have slept walked through half the season and lost 11/12. I’m pulling for Archie and hope that in year 10 we say “boy those first two years we tough but now we have it rolling”. Not sure why saying this year was a disappointment seemingly always leads to “why do you want to fire Archie” or “what did you expect” type comments.

Agree. He showed some potential and I think he will fit in better in a conference that does not have a ton of true “big men”.
-
To be fair Holtman also went to the tourney his first two years, as opposed to our zero, and our “green grass side” has gone from saying Archie would get us in the tourney right away to “Crean guys suck”, “it takes three years to learn the defense”, “Coach K went 0-1,000,000 when he started” etc. I hope Archie makes things happen but so far I think HR would say Holtman has over achieved while Archie has underachieved.

I’ve never seen either play but, if they are Big Ten talents, want the one that best fits IU. Even though I have not seen either player I will admit that I am puzzled, rather than negative, about potential Windham interest. Most seem to agree that D1 coaches know more than us or the recruiting services. In Leal’s case 3 COACHES from Big Ten teams, Stanford, Xavier and Butler have all already offered him (as a junior). Windham is already a senior, played in a very visible conference and on a visible AAU team. and had Georgia State and MAC offers. After opening up his recruitment his first home visit was with Kent State with strong interest from Middle Tennessee State, Tulane etc. My question continues to be what does Archie see that no other prominent basketball school sees? The comeback usually is that the kid is hard nosed etc but don’t all schools need that? Maybe I’m just gun shy because when Crean thought he was the smartest guy in the recruiting room (Priller, Galon, April, etc) he usually wasn’t.

2019 Off-Season IU Roster News and Moves
DChoosier replied to CrossboneIU22's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
He is 27 and through the end of this season (his 6th) his total career earnings are 14,250,000. I’ll have to check old pay stubs but I think that is at least double what I made by the time I was 27. :) -
(2019) SF Trendon Watford to LSU
DChoosier replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Yes, I agree but it sounds like LSU is picking up steam so I was curious to see if distance could be a motivating factor (which does not seem to be the case). It would be disappointing if he goes to LSU because Wade is clearly guilty/slime. On the other hand there is a ton of smoke coming out of Arizona but Sean currently has the 2nd highest rated recruiting class in the country. -

I figured the Watfords would not be very excited about once again making the drive to Bloomington, over and over, but was a bit suprised to see that the drive to Baton Rouge is only a hour less than Bloomington (5 1/2 vs 6 1/2). -

Aside from my smartazz comment/joke......Jake always seemed to have a very positive, upbeat attitude on the bench and I wish him the best. Being a relatively slim “big”, with a ways to go, I hope he ends up at a Temple/VCU etc type conference and has a good/enjoyable experience. -
Agree totally. I bitched and moaned on posts about the NCAA taking so long to act on UNC, in spite of a mountain of evidence, and kept getting replies basically saying be patient, and I just did not understand the process, etc, etc. Well....we know how that ended.

2019 Off-Season IU Roster News and Moves

I am STUNNED that Hurt committed to Duke even though he knows they are looking at Jake. Guess he is all about the team and not worried about available minutes. -
He met with seven coaches in one day? Did they set it up like a drive thru with each coach, sitting in their car, getting 15 minutes to plead their case ? Too bad Will Wade was not there. He could have said “I would like to order an Anthony Harris”, they could have replied “that will be $100,000” and at the drive up window Wade could have then handed over a Nike bag with 100k inside.

2019 Off-Season IU Roster News and Moves
DChoosier replied to CrossboneIU22's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
He should not be “dogged”, as he played well for a freshman, was injured, and may be viewed as a turning point for good Indiana players going to IU but on the other hand it’s hard to have a legacy when you only play one year and the team does not even make the tournament. Multi-years, and defining moments, create legacies. Romeo does not have either. -
Romeo Langford - BCM Gravelines Dunkerque
DChoosier replied to Trish's topic in Hoosiers in the Pros
He injured his knee the summer (after high school) before he enrolled at IU. It was a shame as he was a great high school player and Kentucky, UNC etc recruited him. -

Came out flat against Wichita State and also in the virtual tourney play-in game vs. OSU. I just can’t get over that OSU game. If the tourney doesn’t motivate you ?!?!? Agree about the shooting. There were plenty of issues with the offense (ie as an example where on the court Romeo would get the ball ) but we did have a number of open opportunities that we did not cash in. A three point threat would have put us in the tourney. -

Smith was talking about not being used properly on the perimeter. I think he sees himself as a 3. I am NOT saying I agree with him. Agree with you that we should not feel compelled to fill all 13 slots no matter what. -

I’m with you to a degree but Rob was also offered by Butler, VIrginia, Georgetown and Purdue. Leal (3 BT schools, Butler, Stanford and others) and Galloway ( 4 BT including MSU and Butler/Notre Dame) both have multiple good offers. Windham, several MACS, IUPUI and Ga State. Maybe he would be great but makes you go hmmm (basing this on other coaches opinions/offers, not stars). If we pick him up wish him the best and hope it works out. -
I did not really watch TT prior to the tourney. Their defense and intensity is great to watch. What a start for Beard. 2nd year at Texas Tech he takes them to the Elite 8. Third year they go the the Final Game....At Texas Tech! The oilmen better load up the $$ truck.
