(2018) PG Darius Garland to Vandy
Jeff_Boy_Ardee replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Well he did say pretty girls Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -
If he can stay out of foul trouble I have high expectations for DD this year
-
Didn't know where to post this. But it looks like we will at least be in the best shape and stronger than we have been before behind Clif. I'm looking forward to watching our bigs start to bang inside like the rest of the B1G instead of floating out for 3s.

(2018) PF Race Thompson to IU
Jeff_Boy_Ardee replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
It's like buying a piece of meat and cooking it as soon as you get home and eating it. Sure it will be good and will fill you up, but you could taken that piece of meat and stick it in a marinade for 24 hours and eat it the next day and have a far better tasting and juicy piece of meat. A little preparation and patience is many times worth the wait. -
(2018) PF Race Thompson to IU

I respect your opinion just not understanding your reasoning? You keep saying it every redshirt player drastically improves, so you think he would have drastically improved by staying in high school against the same competition? Or that he would have drastically improved next year as a freshman? Maybe he won't drastically improve but he is far more likely to improve with a year against bigger and better players, a year to develop his body even further with a D1 strength coach, and a year to learn the system so next year when he plays as a "freshman" he's already a year ahead of every other true freshman coming in. This was best case scenario for a player that would have seen limited minutes -
He's been here for what 3 months? What in the world were you expecting? IU is not currently a top 10 program. Historically, Financially yes. Respected still yes. Success on the court, no. Archie has the opportunity to return it to a top 10 program and yes that takes landing star recruits, but good lord let the guy walk before you cut him off at the legs.

If he truly wanted the OSU job I think he would have left. Does that look really bad and have an entire state hate you for the rest of your life yes, but if he truly desired the OSU job that's a personal decision and personal dream job you take it, that opportunity is only going to present itself once. Archie knows what it means to be at IU and have the chance to truly make IU great again and become the new face of the resurrected Hoosiers.

Chris Holtmann named Ohio State Head Coach
Jeff_Boy_Ardee replied to FortWayneHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
The B1G is in my opinion by far the best conference in the country. Absolutely stacked now with great coaches, only downside is they beat each other up all year and affects their seeding for NCAA. -
Doesn't really pertain to their coach search, but I think how much attention, or lack there if I should say, this has gained proves how much more of an elite job Indiana still is. Saw lots of people dissing IU saying it wasn't elite but when we had an opening it was all over ESPN and all the sports writers were talking about it, I've rarely seen any articles or sport shows talking about OSU having an opening. Granted I know they are more of a football school, but there's been some out there saying it's an elite job.

Starting to see rumors that Creighton is prepared for McDermott to leave and that Crean is a leading candidate to replace him at Creighton. Just rumors floating around the World Wide Web, but Creighton could actually be a good fit for him there. Have a good season every now and then, never expected to go on deep runs.
-
I'd be happy with that. I personally don't think he's an upgrade, wouldn't feel like OSU would be a B1G force to reckon with consistently. I'm still just waiting for all these "sports" experts to apologize to IU fans for saying how crazy we were to get rid of Crean when he's never brought up as a candidate for any of these other programs that had opening, outside of the "sports" "experts".

It seems you are of the opinion that Archie should have taken DAYTON to multiple Sweet 16s or further to be successful? DAYTON!? Rarely do schools hire big time successful coaches for open vacancies, why? Because those guys are already at big time successful programs. IMO you have to look at the full picture not just a W/L record. Archie has a proven track record of success at Dayton, his teams have demonstrated they can play aggressive defense and if you watch or research on his philosophies he is a very intelligent coach as far as Xs and Os and understanding how to make adapt his system for his players and make proper adjustments, unlike what we've seen for awhile. I understand some may be skeptical, I am one that thinks Archie was the best hire and am very excited to have him here. Don't think it's fair to say he's no better than Crean at Marquette because he didn't go far enough? He was one game away from the FF at freaking Dayton.

There shouldn't be anymore commercials by going to quarters. You'll have one at the end of the first and one at the third. These would essentially just replace a media timeout. Not arguing about commercial time, just stating they are currently contemplating resetting team fouls in the middle of the half in order to eliminate teams going in the bonus so early and slowing the game down with free throws. The easier solution IMO is just switch to 4 quarters like everyone else.
-
Because that is what they are testing. They tried it out in the NIT I believe. They are trying to eliminate time being spent shooting free throws (from being in the bonus) so they reset the team fouls at the 10 minute mark. Which if you go to 4 quarters you would play 4 ten minute quarters and fouls would reset at every quarter except it wouldn't be in the middle of a half. It makes much more sense to do quarters.

Where did I say 400 players should start declaring just to declare? My post was directed at people who think declaring automatically means you're gone and think you're going to the NBA. If you are able to workout for a team and go through the drills, then yes, why not do it. The new rule benefits players more than it ever has before and that's all I'm getting at. Never did I suggest or hint at every single player start declaring. I simply compared going through this process to going through a similar process for a job (after all these kids are trying to get a job). I don't know about you, but I was told and encouraged to apply for as many jobs as possible to go through the interview process so I could learn first hand what employers expected, what the interview process would be like, what kind of questions to be prepare for, even if I knew I had no chance of getting the job. Same situation for these kids.
-
Declaring for the draft doesn't mean what it used to mean when they don't hire an agent. IMO it would be dumb for them not to declare without an agent if they truly have aspirations of making it to the next level. It allows them to workout with NBA talent and get evaluations from NBA guys to let them know what they need to improve on to make it. If you were given the opportunity to participate in a work related event that gave you first hand experience on what the job entails and what you need to work on to ensure you can successfully do that job would you do it? If anything, I think it'll just make someone like ROJO and even JBJ work harder because they are told they aren't good enough yet to be draft highly or draft at all.

I think some people are under the impression we should be going trying to steal Head Coaches as our asst. Assistants typically have a few areas that they focus on. Archie is obviously the General and will steer the ship but these guys will focus on areas Archie wants them to focus on. Many assistants are really good assistants and get their shot as HC and find out they're just better at being assistants. That doesn't mean they suck at all. Many Def. And Off. Coordinators are great at their job but not so good when they get HC positions. I am excited about this staff and absolutely can not wait for next season. This is an amazing feeling to finally see IU making the steps to become a tourney regular and begin the process to be ourselves in the FF conversations.
