I do, that’s why I said I understand the argument on it being Baylor vs Indiana. I just find it difficult to see our fan base (not admin) give anyone 7 years. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

Interesting to see Drew’s record. I get you can Argue Baylor isn’t Indiana, but his first 6 years weren’t pretty, especially in conference. Didn’t have a winning conference record until year 7, which they went to the elite eight and have been pretty consistent since then. I am not arguing for Archie to get 7 years by any means, really this one has nothing to do with Archie per se. just wondering do IU fans give any coach 7 years before they start calling for his head? I understand not wanting to turn in to a Calipari factory or anything to that extent, but if you think IU has done everything by the book over the 2 coaches youre mistaken. Eric Gordon got money, did not go to classes. Crean had assts tied to stuff, Thomas Bryant and noah vonleh were not 100% clean recruits probdbly more. He goes to georgia and get edwards right away? He wasnt clean either just not as dirty and obvious as others coaches I have no problem playing in the grey to get us on a level playing field. Do I want UK, Duke, UNC, UL, Kansas level stuff no. I’ve heard that and it may be true. The only flaw is that eventually, maybe it’ll take decades, but eventually a coach is going to win here. Maybe it’s another Archie that actually pans out, but when that happens and IU starts winning again the iubb program will become the face again de facto Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

Again remember Archie was a top ten paid coach at the time. We need to keep our wants realistic. Currently Archie is 20. 1. Cal - not coming 2. Coach K -Not coming 3. Mick Cronin -‘doubt he leaves UCLA for IU 4. Barnes - possible? 5. Chris Beard (4.2million) 6. Jay wright - not leaving 7. IZzzo - not leaving 8. Roy Williams - Not leaving 9. Chris Mack - doubtful 10. Bill self - Not leaving 11. Huggins - ? Do we want that 12. Buzz williams 13. The Bruce is loose Pearl 14. Utah 15. Gregg marshall 16. TCU 17. Scott Drew - maybe leave don’t want 18. Tony Bennett - Turned us down 19. Shaka 20. Archie The salary difference between coach 10 and Archie at 20 is 500,000. So we are spending the money we just are not showing the same ROI has the other top schools. Which is why I think he need to add a million or two to beard and grab him or go after Belein and bridge the gap and make it a desirable place to coach again Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

I always find it interesting to throw out hopes and prayers in times likes these. I have been an Archie supporter, I have wanted him to be good and succeed here, it’s getting difficult, but my stance has mainly alwasy been you can’t fire him without a slam dunk lined up, so stay put and keep the faith. That being said, my list is pretty short on who I think is actual realistic and why. 1. Chris Beard - I think he’s the homerun hire. He is younger, runs an exciting system, he has shown some big time success, and the cherry on the top, he has ties to Bob knight. I do not think the last part is a requirement, but there’s a huge chunk of the fan base they still get excited in the pants when the name Bob Knight comes up or a coach that had ties to Bob Knight 2. John Belein - I believe the job was his originally but we went with Sampson. Which I think sampson would have us rolling right now but I digress. Belein is older but still has a good few years left. If we can get him for 4-5 years I think it’s a great get. He has proven he can do it in the big ten. He left basketball on a sour note, and I think he can bridge the gap and make IU a desirable place to coach again after he leaves, assuming he brings us success Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

That’s possible, but I have a hard time believing the kids were actually drawn to Crean. I was around a former highly regarded recruit that ended up choosing Michigan a few years back, and was pretty good for them, that Crean “was an absolute weirdo”. Said he honestly thought the guy was cracked out everytime he met him. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Favorite All-Time Hoosier Basketball Player
Jeff_Boy_Ardee replied to JaybobHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
The 2002 is my all time favorite team to watch. I wasn’t around to see any of the championship teams And barely remember the early 90s team. Just loved how that team played together and hustled. But AJ Moooyeee is probdbly my favorite. Absolutely loved his energy and being that spark plug coming off the bench to get us going again during slumps. And who can forget the block. Just a hypothetical question to see others thoughts. I call on the coal mines in Kentucky so deal with a lot of UK fans, who are growing tired of Cals methods and this year is not setting well with them. We know UK fans turn just as fast as we do. Hypothetically, if Cal were to be available in the next year or so, how many of you would jump on the hire Cal wagon. Personal feelings aside, he has the success and tourney runs most have been asking for. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

I’m not trying to say that the HC shouldn’t emphasize shooting drills and getting shots up, but since when do we expect a HC to TEACH shooting to D1 basketball players. Granted I didn’t play college ball, I did have a lot of close friends that were D1 and D2 players, and was very connected and worked in the athletic department in college at a highly regarded D2 basketball school. I never once have heard of a HC in college teaching players how to shoot. I saw the HC implementing shooting drills throughout a 2 hour practice, and I saw players staying after hours working on the gun and getting shots up, but never have I seen a college coach teaching scholarship players how to shoot a basketball. Has Archie recruited a deadeye from 3 pt range, no. Has his teams shot well from 3 or FT, no. You can blame some of that on recruiting, but if you are skilled enough to play college ball at any level, a fundamental skill such as shooting is not on the coach. There’s 24 hours in a day, plenty of time to find some time to get shots up. I’m just as upset we can’t shoot as anyone, but we are getting open looks frequently, i get some of the blame that archie gets, but you can’t blame him for kids not making shots. He’s not shooting for them. And it’s not like he doesn’t know how to shoot he was a career 85% FT shooter and 43% 3pt at NC State. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Just curious, say we get rid of Archie EOY. Who do you REALISTICALLY think we can get and get us to elite status in 3-4 years? Not trying to come off demeaning, I’m genuinely curious as I don’t see us being able to find a coach that wants to come here that could get us elite in a short turnaround. Keep in mind we made Archie a top 10 paid coach at the time. I am by no means happy with the results on the record books. But this year, IMO, we are better in defense. We are better on offense, move the ball more, more screens, more movement, just not knocking down shots. We are better in effort. The only thing I don’t think we have really gotten better on is shooting, so I will give everyone that. I believe this team is 1 solid shooter away from being good to great so whether that’s on the players or Archie or both it is what it is we can’t shoot. That being said, I think Archie has finally gotten players that will be here 3-4 years and buying into his system. This is the first year I think we have finally seen what that looks like, yes granted we still can’t shoot. However, I’m still hopeful that now that he has a core group of players that have bought in and now the system he can focus more on recruiting true needs versus recruiting players to willingly but in to his system, learn it, and teach it. No excuse for not being able to find a solid shooter to this point, but IMO I feel like we have made so pretty good progress. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

As much as I want to hate Sampson and blame him, it’s embarrassing to see Houston top 10-25 every year and to wonder what could have been if we had an admin that wasn’t so worried about PR. I have no doubt we would have been to multiple E8s and beyond had we never got rid of him Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

I’ll try to find the article. But Archie was actually told him if Boheim calls him he has to take the job. That’s his dream spot, Archie knows that, and he knows that. No blame on either side for that decision. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
