Whelp, it's game day folks. So, time for a thread with minimal activity. I don't think I'll catch this one live, but since it's on BTN then I can usually watch them later on BTN2go right? Not that I expect any exciting basketball or anything fun, but it's better than rewatching "Once Upon a Time" like my wife wants. I'm going on a limb and saying we'll win this one without trouble. If not, then prepare for the sky to tumble down.

Isn't Chris Mack pretty much right where he wants to be? He played at Xavier and put in a lot of years under other coaches. Plus, it's his hometown. I think he could do well, but he's probably pretty satisfied with how things are.
-
Oh man, Reggie Johnson! Guy was massive. I think he was even bigger in his first couple of years and actually lost weight to become 290. Still had a couple of inches on Latham but he could really ball. He was on that Sweet 16 team they had right? But, I feel like he was hurt or something in the tourney game they lost, I don't remember seeing him lumbering around at all. Fun player. I'd love to see Latham being a giant bruiser like that.
-
I know we never took him off the roster, so maybe he isn't technically a "new" player, but Fuchs coming back could satisfy Crean's statement. He would be a new player in the games. Trouble with Latham is he is carrying too much weight without time to shed any. I'd love him to prove me wrong, but I can't see him playing at 300 lbs. Even Haas only carries 285 and he's part tree.

I apologize to Notre Dame. Being founded in 1963 as a junior college because there were no junior colleges in the area and the University System of Georgia was expanding is actually the most boring history for a university. "Oh, how did you guys end up getting started?" "You know, filed the proper paperwork, received approval, and began building" "Oh, like in the 1800s?" "No, during the Kennedy administration" Double-Boring - 63 I can't think of stuff for the university that stays the same - 106

Dakich: Blackmon couldn't guard a chair
MartintheMopMan replied to incrediboy's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Did Bobby Knight ever have to kick kids off the team? Maybe even 3 at the same time while putting another 5 on probation? Did he do his homework then? Or have any players who were suspended for academics, then lose their scholarships temporarily for academic reasons, and then failed a drug test and still stayed on the team? Maybe someone who flunked a few courses, lost his scholarship, got a walk-on spot, and then was kicked off the team for academic reasons? Is that Knight doing the homework wrong or was he extremely lax in that regard or did he just not care? -
Robert Johnson is every bit of awesome!
MartintheMopMan replied to ALASKA HOOSIER's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Well, he probably would have, since it's not as if he was the only poor performer in the first. -

Jim Thomas? Uwe Blab? Jim Roberson? Todd Meier? Or did Knight stay in Indiana, Ohio, and Illinois and have them wander over? Not to mention Magnus Pelkowski, Andre Harris, or Todd Jadlow. How much of Knight's recruiting do you think was a conscious choice not to recruit the coasts and how much was due to the nature of recruiting before the internet? Most schools recruited very locally at the time because it was difficult to recruit elsewhere unless the recruits were huge names. If Knight had the resources available to him that Crean does, do you think he'd spend 99% of his time within 200 miles or he would be recruiting players like Thomas Bryant? Do you think the inability of players to closely follow other schools helped Knight recruit? For example, if it were 40 years ago, would Grant Gelon be a Duke fan? Or would his exposure to Duke have been limited enough not to form an opinion? Could Knight successfully recruit a Thomas Bryant? Or would TB's limited exposure to Indiana combined with the recruitment primarily taking place through phone calls and letters make it more difficult for Knight? Was Kent Benson heavily recruited by other schools? Or was his recruitment limited because he didn't show up on 247? The recruitment models are just so different now compared to the 70s and 80s that comparison isn't really fair. It may be notable, Bob Knight did not continue his local recruitment model at Texas Tech. Nor does it appear he recruited Indiana kids to come play at Texas Tech. Edit: And let's please not pretend Coach Knight never recruited kids who turned out to have issues. Players were kicked off his teams too. Was that because he didn't do his homework? -
I got like a 9, so... figures.

He's a glue guy, so you'd think he has resistance to pasting. Duke would have to roll disadvantage. -

And there's a group of you who think the only people who know how to play basketball live in the midwest and like each others posts. Yet, you don't hear people breaking thing kind of thing out against you in order to undermine your opinion. Here's a point. Run me through the Indiana kids from the last 4 years. Then run me through the East Coast kids. Let me know who "gets it" and "doesn't get it" and color me shocked if you end up with more scholarship Indiana kids on the "gets it" list than not. Look at the team right now. Who do you complain the most about? Troy, Yogi, Blackmon. Who is getting the most praise? Rojo, OG, Collin. One of those groups is 2/3s Indiana kids, one is 2/3s not. Weird. Oh, but that's because we're recruiting the only Indiana kids who don't "get it" right? We have 5 players from your zone. Yogi, Blackmon, Z3, Collin, and Max. And 6 active players from outside. OG, Troy, Juwan, TB, Rojo... uh, Priller. Which group seems to have more kids with high basketball IQ who "get it"? An NBA coach from Indiana watches Indiana players? Stop the presses. How many permanent scouts does Gregg Popovich have in Indianapolis? And comparing intraIndiana teams and saying one is better because they use more Indiana kids is ludicrous. What about all the schools who recruit all of the other kids and go on to win championships? Are those just flukes? You know, the ones outside of Indiana. Do you think Duke should be spending more time recruiting Indy? And like I said before, Grant Gelon is like, the pinnacle Indiana kid right? The kind of kid you expect Butler to recruit. Not highly ranked, good fundamentals, good attitude, grew up in Indiana. He must adore IUBB, so I'm sure he'll have the right attitude on their traditions and need for leadership. Oh, nope, his favorite team is Duke. Well, there are probably other kids around here who grew up loving IUBB, we just need to do our homework! -

I honestly don't understand how anyone can make any form of the "local kids" argument in a thread about the defensive failures of a local kid. Good and bad kids come from everywhere, it has absolutely nothing to do with recruiting Indiana or Florida and everything to do with recruiting the right kids from everywhere. It's more about the right kids than it is local kids. If it's not about geography, then there is no need for you to mention recruiting locally at all. Not even going to mention the "local kids" all love and admire other schools, they don't have some magic love for IU. See Grant Gelon's favorite college team and players. -

I don't see him as bitter either. I do think he's tough on Indiana, but I think it comes from a place of love not from bitterness. It bothers him more when we don't succeed because he wants us to succeed just like everyone else here. And I think he's kind of an ass when he does it just because he's kind of an ass. So, everything he does is done like someone who is kind of an ass would do it. I don't like the personality he displays, so I don't like him regardless of who he is talking about. -

And all I'm saying is, if you're bitter because you weren't capable of performing a job and they went with someone who seemed more capable, then you're an idiot. If you apply for a job that is looking for people with a Masters, and you only have a Diploma, you don't get to be bitter they hired someone who was at least a college grad and starting their Masters classes. Yeah, maybe in the future you can say the person they hired wasn't right, but you can't pretend you would have been better. Dakich has to grow up. Being bitter about that is childish. There was no betrayal unless they told him the job was his and then suddenly hired someone else. If you take a temporary position and they hire someone more qualified to replace you when your contract ends, you weren't betrayed. -

I don't really get what Crean has to do with it. Like everyone else said, Dakich didn't just coach 7 games in his life. I know what kind of coach he was and there is no way he should ever have been our permanent coach. He needs to let it go and realize he wasn't the answer either. -

For all the outrageous things he says to make people mad so they listen to his show. You can still be knowledgeable and an ass. I don't understand how people don't understand how people don't like him. He's intentionally kind of an ass in the same way someone like Trump is. He does it to increase his popularity by getting fans of his tough style and people who hate him listening. -

Utah has had absolutely no offense this game. They would be lost without their defense and BYU's total inability to understand which team should have the ball at any point in the game. -
Osu seals it 74-67 They're so young. They'll be crazy good next year.

I would be so pumped with how Purdue is playing this year if only we were better than them. It's more fun when both teams are playing well.
