2015 Pinstripe Bowl Gear!
MartintheMopMan replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
If you know people in the Carolinas they can pick you up a whole bunch of "Duke University Pinstripe Champs" shirts for like 90% off after we crush them. -
Rob Johnson Appreciation Thread

Good for him, he brought it down. He had the highest turnover percentage on the team until last game. -
Sounds like he'd fit right in.

Young barely scratches the surface of how young they are. Vonleh's year when we all complained how young we were and we were garbage, we were 150% more experienced than they are. They're the 347th youngest team out of 351.

Feeney, Spriggs name to All-American teams
MartintheMopMan replied to HoosierReb01's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
All of the "too early" mock drafts I've looked at have Spriggs as one of the last picks of the first or first of the second. Ditto for the Niners. We would have to transition Spriggs to the right but... I could live with it. Feeney would be huge too. Lot of teams need O-lines this year, -
Honestly, the best example of a classic fan experience mixed with enough new to keep everyone engaged and pumped up? Cameron indoor. They do a great job using band music and modern themes and high energy. I think it would be impossible to win in Assembly Hall if we could get the fans as excited as they do. It's an arena designed for college sports, loud, uncomfortable, and forcing you to cheer and yell until you're hoarse. We are too busy making Assembly hall more like a professional arena and less like the arena we need.

Feeney, Spriggs name to All-American teams

Awesome work! I hope when they start playing on Sundays they don't play on a team I hate. I mean, Danny boy, if you think I'm going easy on you if you play for a division rival, you got another thing comin'. -

(2016) CB Monquavion Brinson to Syracuse

Football is just so laissez a faire about the whole commitment thing. They tend to drag verbals out much longer than you see in basketball and reneging on your verbal is more common. Someone needs to come up with different terminology since "commitment" is absolutely the wrong word. Maybe "verbaled" and "signed" or something so it's more obvious when players are committed but still recruitable. -
I don't think we have a shot with either and our names haven't come up. If we did, it would be with Knight. Allen is a good QB leaving a bad situation, he can go pretty much anywhere. Knight is good but had some issues after his injury. He may get fewer looks because of that. Though, I'm sure everyone thinks they can fix him and being available immediately is huge. So, he'll probably get plenty of attention. Plus, we have Lagow and we're gonna be beatin' up on fools all next year anyway.

If We Win, Will They Come?
MartintheMopMan replied to BburgHoosier's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
Either 8 or 10. I can't remember. 2012 - 18 home games - 140400 tickets - 17550 students with 8 - 14040 with 10 - 11700 with 12 2013 - 19 home games - 148200 tickets -18525 students with 8 - 14820 with 10 - 12350 with 12 Oh shoot. I don't think they gave you tickets over breaks so any of those home games have to be subtracted. Whelp. I'm not doing that. Formula is 7800 seats times number of home games for tickets sold divided by tickets per student -
Those hip surgeries catching up to him. So sad to see injuries ruin a career like that. I hope he figures out something better to do.

So, 7,800 reserved seats is the correct number? Oh, I got it, all the 12,400 claims are the total maximum number of students who are allotted tickets? That is the most devious way to count the size of your student section. Wow. I hate the Crimson Guard. That should have been more obvious from the seating chart, I couldn't figure out how the student section was more than half the seats when it definitely isn't. Your numbers totally work out then, and better than mine. 132600 tickets distributed with 12 per person is exactly 11050 students. Plus 550 who just bought football tickets. -

MartintheMopMan replied to BburgHoosier's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
I just went to look up the numbers and do the math, but I cannot find a reliable source on how big our student section is. I see 12,400 cited a lot by unofficial sources. News articles comparing student sections from spring 2015 say both 6,800 and 7,800 student reserved seats. Does that not count the GA seats? Aren't those still reserved for students? Looking at the seating chart and doing the math, 12,400 has to be the right number. 40 rows of 100 seats for general public/faculty across roughly 10 sections. So, around 12,400 would remain. 17 tickets for home games for 12,400 seats is 210800 tickets distributed. For each student to get 12 tickets, there would have to be 17,566 students with 8 tickets leftover. So, there are only 35,363 seats in Memorial Stadium not accounted for by bundled student tickets. -

MartintheMopMan replied to BburgHoosier's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
That was a pretty random estimate. It's likely closer to 20,000 right? 12,400 student tickets for basketball (At least that's what we claim for the student section). Sold to a little under twice as many students since you only buy the seat for half the time. Probably varies by year, but back in the Zeller years it would mean around 20k or 22k students. -
If We Win, Will They Come?
MartintheMopMan replied to BburgHoosier's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
I mentioned it earlier and I don't know if it's still true (Hova or another student could tell us) but when I bought student season tickets for basketball back in law school, you could only buy them as a ticket pack with football tickets. So, if that's still the case, there are what, 25,000 (student section divided roughly in half since you only get half of the games) or so tickets being sold to students who likely won't use them? It's an obvious ploy to boost our numbers and clearly it's working. -

We're talking when we had two 8 win seasons in row and a few 6 win seasons back in the late 80s early 90s right? Is it really fair to compare the current fans to the fans 30 years ago? Not to mention, those fans had serious basketball to watch instead. But, it's not like we're a school with traditions or anything. Fans will be bandwagon fans for a long time. Expect them to show up when we're winning and to not bother when we aren't. -
There is a not very good one on this page. It cuts out right at the most important part of the storm. But, it's also a totally lame storming so I don't even know how someone got hurt. http://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/sports/college/iowa-state/cyclone-insider/2015/12/10/registers-randy-peterson-suffers-compound-fracture-during-cy-hawk-court-storming/77127638/

(2016) CB Monquavion Brinson to Syracuse
MartintheMopMan replied to HoosierReb01's topic in Indiana Football Recruiting Forum
Football recruiting is hard to follow because the "to Syracuse" is pretty much meaningless. It's just so weird they can commit and decommit at will like that. It's like if you get married but your wife still lets you date other women and then you marry. -
It's only acceptable then if you win on the last shot and it's half court or longer.

If We Win, Will They Come?
MartintheMopMan replied to BburgHoosier's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
Well, and every year there are probably 5,000-8,000 new potential fans without any preconceived notions about Indiana football who just want to have a typical college experience drinking in a parking lot and watching football. So, consistent winning matters a lot less than keeping them engaged after we snag them. I know it's just a small part of the fanbase, but every little bit helps. -
Interesting stuff, thanks. In terms of total staff pay, we're better than I expected. Generally, I'm amazed at how little some of these guys make. We're still pretty bad for a P5 and have lots of room for increase, but still better than I expected.
