Fred Glass on the state of IU Athletics
Hoosierfan2017 replied to HoosierCoop's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
That's true. New facilities are always a plus, but I'm not sure how much they've helped us in recruiting. We have Cook Hall and Assembly but still miss on most of our top priorities. I think when you're recruiting against the blue bloods top facilities are a requirement, but they won't move the needle much in your favor. The top schools are all going to have nice facilities. Having them is definitely a step in the right direction, but until we show we're a consistent winner the facilities won't bring in the caliber of recruits we all want. -

We played Louisville, Kansas, North Carolina and Butler in non-conference and still ended up 316th out of 351. That's crazy. -

Glass is delusional if he thinks we're entering a golden age of IU athletics. Also I hate how the article acts like 3 sweet 16s in 5 years is elite, but I'm not surprised. -
Crean seems to get a lot of lucky breaks that help him keep his job. The guy is able to do just enough to get by, I'll give him that much.
-
Crean's paid like a top-10 coach but over the past 9 years he hasn't created a top-10 program. Not even close. Time to move on.
-
No clue, but I think a lot of coaches would be interested in IU if we had an opening and reached out to them. We don't know who they are because they aren't going to make that public knowledge. I think Bill Self or a Bill Self caliber coach would be able to come in and recruit well enough to turn us into a consistent title contender in a very short period of time. The Big 12 is always in flux and maybe he wants to take on the challenge of the Big 10. Even if we strike out on the home run guys there are a dozen or more coaches who could come in and at the least give us what Crean has given over 9 years, imo. At some point we have to take a chance because if we keep Crean around for another 10-15 years I don't think IU ever recovers.
-
Eh, if we got a "great" coach to come here they wouldn't need to start over. A great coach could turn our program around in a 2 year span.
-
Another Crean extension.... Man, I don't want that thought in my head let alone for it to be reality. We'd all get nice little vacations and there wouldn't be anyone left to post.

How does the Florida Mr. Football not have better offers? -

Possibility for early PT here too. Lagow isn't good and we apparently didn't have anyone good enough to unseat him last season. -
How does OG's injury factor into things? Will the bar still be set in the same place for Crean the rest of the year?

Notre Dame grad xfer RB Justin Brent

Hahaha I forgot all about that, didn't realize he was the kid. "Selfie" is one way to characterize it. -
Sounds like Priller is making the most out of his scholarship. Too bad for him that the NCAA prefers when players take fake classes.
-
Crean's "graduate players in 3 years" model kinda screws things up. I'm not going to criticize him for graduating his players, that would be ridiculous, but we need seniors. His teams that have seniors on them do much better than his team's that don't. His philosophy of trying to get his players a degree and to the NBA in 3 years max is good for the players, but it's not good for building a team. And like you said, we don't get good enough recruits to be a revolving door basketball factory.

Maybe top 20 in a Big 10 draft.

At times jbj seems like someone who is worried about getting "his" and looking good for pro scouts. It also kind of seems like he's grudgingly returned to IU the past two years even though his heart hasn't been in it. Not saying that he deserves hate for that, but I think those things play into a lot of it. The kids who got in trouble got a lottttt of hate when it happened but they're no longer here so no point in hating on them. Yogi got a lot of hate too until he became a senior and grew exponentially as a leader.
-
It's seemed like he's had a foot out the door since he got here.
-
He's talking about the "indefinite" Grayson Allen suspension.
-
Yep. Tore his ACL in mid-February and then was drafted #6 that same year.
