  1. Yeah Alford wouldn't be among my top choices, but if it came down to keeping Crean or bringing in Alford I would go with the latter. We know what Crean can do as a coach and we know it's not good enough. Alford's postseason resume isn't great but I like what he's doing at UCLA. Maybe it has more to do with the school and less to do with him, but they're in a good place regardless. I think he would be able to recruit well.
  2. If there's anyone wth the personality to hold a grudge for that long it's Bob Knight. It doesn't surprise me at all that he has for all these years. I laughed out loud when I listened to him say that he hopes they're all dead though. Not because it's a funny thing to say but because it's exactly the kind of thing I would expect from him.
  3. If you were one of the best in the history of your profession, led your company to the most successful years in its history, and were then fired I imagine you would be pretty upset. I know that I would, and I think I would carry that grudge for a long time. I'm not arguing one way or the other about whether he deserved to be fired. I just don't think it's that crazy that he's still mad 17 years later.
  4. He's like one of those characters in the movies who open up their closets and have 10 sets of the exact same outfit.
  5. I'm not sure that's really an apples to apples comparison though.. There are numerous reasons for people to not like Bob Knight, I just don't think this is one of them.
  6. I'm worried about us going on a run in the BTT because the Big Ten sucks this year. When we hit shots like we did last night there isn't a team in the conference that scares me. A good week of basketball isn't worth another season like this one, imo, and I think that's exactly what we'll get if we win it. Glass won't fire him if we win the BTT so we'd have to count on Crean leaving on his own. 9 years of Crean have taught me to never count on him when we need him the most.
  7. Oh my god that's some crap right there!!!
  8. Crean staying for another year would be a bigger loss than anything that could happen on the court. I'll take the small L's to stay away from the huge one.
  9. We don't really have anything to move on to though. I think people keep hanging on to him because since he's been gone IU has been mediocre. During times like this people long for the better days, and Coach Knight was those better days.
  10. To be fair it's not really his fault that fans keep expecting him to come back to Assembly Hall. It's not like he's all like "maybe I'll come back, maybe I won't, wait and see!" and keeping everyone in limbo. The university told him to get out and that's exactly what he has done.
  11. I actually loved the comments. I don't think any of us can begin to understand how he feels, and I think saying he needs to just get over it is off base.
  12. Yup. There's nothing in the world that could change my mind on Crean. He's not the guy for the job and never will be. Also I'm not sold on him being this "great guy". I'm sure he's nice when he's interacting with fans around town, but there are too many stories about him being a real jerk for me to come to a conclusion.
  13. Has Glass ever fired a coach for performance reasons?
  14. Rooting for a better coach to come isn't rooting against IU. Quite the opposite.
  15. Everything about the situation we're in now sucks /:
  16. It's not even about us being doom and gloom guys, I could honestly just see it happening. Glass isn't going to fire Crean if he manages to win the BTT, or if he gets into the tournament and wins a game or two. We'll get a little pat on the back and Glass and Crean will be grinning from ear to ear. Next year we'll go right back to playing unwatchable basketball and being the joke of the Big Ten all season long.
  17. I don't even see rooting for losses as rooting against IU. I want to lose because it's what's best for the program as a whole. The worst thing would be to win just enough to keep Crean around and stay incredibly mediocre. That would be rooting against IU, imo, and I think it's what the other teams in the conference are rooting for.
  18. This really sucks. We're going to win a few meaningless games and Crean is going to mess around and save his job. Next year will be another crappy season and IU will fade further into obscurity. I would put it at 75%.
  19. I want to live stream the game on my phone on the way home but my parents would probably kill me after getting the data charges. Looks like I'll be getting my updates here for the first half.
  20. Imagine the average Missouri fan's face when they stumble across Btown Banners and see we've dedicated 800+ pages to firing Tom Crean. He would be a good pickup for them, but still.. Seeing that would make your stomach drop for a second lol.
  21. Thank you!
  22. Does anyone have a good, non-biased article about Alford's Iowa incident? I'm trying to understand why everyone hates on him but all I'm really finding about it is that at the time he came out and said that he thought that his player was innocent. I assume there's a lot more to it, but I'm not familiar with the incident so idk which articles are telling the truth and which are spinning alternative facts.
  23. Down years for me are finishing in the 4-6 range in the Big 10 and getting bounced during the first weekend. While it'd be nice to have a team capable of winning a championship every single year, I don't think it's realistic to expect. No one does that. Missing the tournament 2-3 years in a 5 year span goes way beyond "down years" and should be unacceptable.
  24. Keep your uncle far away from Fred Glass!!! I expect us to have down years, they're a fact of life in college basketball, but I also expect to have hope. I expect to have hope in the down years that better days are ahead, and that things won't always be like this. I don't have that right now. Crean isn't recruiting nearly well enough to make me think that things will be better off a year or two from now. Maybe we won't find a better coach than Crean, but that doesn't mean we don't go out and try. He has had 9 years here to prove that he's the guy for the job and he's failed. We know that he's not the answer so we can't sit around afraid to make a move because we're worried the next guy won't be either.
  25. I wondered about him when I saw the news. I'm really glad he didn't have to go through that again for a third time.
