If Crean isn't our coach next year I think it's safe to say he was fired, regardless of the phrasing the university puts out. He doesn't strike me as the kind of guy that would step down voluntarily.
-
Missouri fans, it's not often you get the chance to snag a coach with two Big 10 titles in four years, and three sweet 16s in a five year span. Look no further than Victor Oladipo to see what he can do with player development. Buy now while supplies last!
-
Yeah if he's been told he's not coming back next year then I find it strange that he's using our money and resources to recruit for his next job. Just feels off to me. We're throwing away money for no reason.
-
I don't think so. He sounded like a defeated man in that presser. We played well on the road for the first time in a long time and got a win and he sounded like he was talking about last night's leftovers.
-
Not that anyone here still needs convinced, but he has now officially went .500 or below in the conference in three of the last four seasons. I'm glad the pro-Crean guys can't use the "he's won 2 of the last 4 big ten titles!!!" argument anymore.

I would rather listen to Skip Bayless talk about LeBron for 2 hours than listen to Dakich call a game. -

It's comical how predictable we are. If the 3s aren't falling at an extremely high clip we can lose to anyone, no matter the lead we've built up. -

Crean does actually seem like the kind of guy that would think he could find a way to keep his job after being fired lol. -

Your post earlier in the thread was what made me think that. All the smoke that has been circling and then they come out and have their best half in a long time.. I think it could be connected. -

I'm thinking Crean let them know he's gone and they're trying to send him off on a high note. I sure hope that's the case, at least. -

One of my least favorite players of the Crean era. -
I don't think he's consistent enough to be considered a good coach. Good coaches know how to build rosters. Crean is horrible when it comes to roster management. Our good teams are almost always lacking an important piece and our bad teams lack several. Good coaches don't go through rebuilds as often as he does. His approach would probably work at a school that doesn't care about basketball where a sweet 16 every few years would make him a god, but he's in way over his head at IU.

The injury excuse has looked stupid since the first time Crean used it. -
When I first read it I took it as they're having second thoughts but it would make more sense for him to mean that it's a done deal and they're just waiting for the end of the season to announce it. All of this speculation is driving me crazy.

No prob, mine screwed up and posted like 6 times after I hit send. This is exciting, but not that exciting lol.

Just to make your post a little easier to read haha.

There hasn't been a power 5 coach fired a year after winning their conference because they don't turn around and lay eggs the next year like Crean has. Twice. We're 13-22 in the conference the two years after Big 10 championships. Idk how they can look past the inconsistencies and act like they don't matter. I don't want a coach that makes us relevant only 1 out of every 3-4 years.
-
Sounds like the Crimson Quarry Crean fanboys are riding with Crean till the bitter end. Their content has been laughable this season, especially since Big 10 play started. There's nothing unprecedented about firing a guy who has finished in the top 4 in his conference 2/9 years, and who has finished in the bottom half of the conference more often than he has the top half. He's heading into his 3rd rebuild in less than a decade. I would argue that it would be more unprecedented for a blue blood program to keep a coach that has been as mediocre as Crean has been.

Count me in on the young coach train. If we can't get Donovan or Bennett then I want youth. We would get 10-15 years out of guys like Archie Miller or Chris Collins before they're the same age as Marshall is right now. Both of them played high-level college basketball so they have that feel for the game that someone like Crean lacks.

Coach Search 2017 IU Candidate: Billy Donovan (OKC Thunder)

I'm expecting down years. Every school has them, even Kentucky and Duke. I'm just expecting higher highs and not as low of lows under our next coach. -
Coach Search 2017 IU Candidate: Billy Donovan (OKC Thunder)
Hoosierfan2017 replied to Feathery's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Donovan could put Ken Nunn on the coaching staff for all I care. I'm not worried at all about him bringing in quality assistants. -
He's leaving the school? I thought medical hardships let you keep your scholarship after you get a career ending injury.
