Indiana's Road to March Madness
Hoosierfan2017 replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I feel like a little kid on Christmas Eve waiting impatiently to open my presents. The days are dragginggg. I think you're right, my inner pessimist just could see Crean doing Crean things and managing to do just enough at the right time to survive. Hopefully it's too late for that. -
Indiana's Road to March Madness

You're more confident than me. I could absolutely see Crean being able to sneak his way back for another year if we make the tournament. He'd be all like "we overcame so many obstacles and injuries to make it back to the tournament. No one thought we could do it!" For that reason I just want the season to be over so letting him go is an easy decision for Glass. -
That's the first time I've seen the video. Looks like how Crean would react if someone told him he had to stop keeping track of deflections.
-
I've noticed that all the articles defending Crean are more about how IU fans have too high of expectations than about how he's a good coach. I actually lol'd when Rosenberg ended the article by calling Crean one of the smartest coaches in the country.

Found it on Twitter lol. For anyone confused, this is from a discussion board on Canvas (the site IU uses for all of its classes). I'm really curious what led Thomas Bryant to telling his class about the time he accidentally hooked up with his friend's girl.
-
And starting at center from Rochester, New York, #31.. (I didn't know which thread to post this in but it was too funny not to share so I put it in the one with the most traffic)
-
It would be cool if he did show up, but I don't care one way or the other. While we're on the Alford topic I was just wondering what other people thought and if anyone knew what the relationship between the two is like.
-
I wonder if Coach Knight would come back if Alford was the new coach.
-
Maybe Sean wants to coach with little brother and we're getting a package deal. I would be pleased with either of the two.
-
If you can't beat em, join em. I would prefer not to get down in the mud with the top schools, but I would rather do that than lose "the right way." Holding IU to higher standards and getting mediocre results doesn't do much for me when other schools are reaping the rewards of operating in the dark areas.
-
I'll still be an IU fan, but I'll be an "Oh IU won last night? Sweet" fan instead of a *refreshes btown banners obsessively* fan. My excitement would go out the window with another year of Crean.
-
Did they say during the O$U game that he's dropped 20 pounds? I swear that's what I heard. The kid's weight needs to be going the other direction. I agree with everything you said though. I'm glad he came here and helped us win a Big 10 title last year, but he would've been better off going somewhere else. I feel like that's the case with all the post players we get. He could be a beast if he had a coach that would park him on the block and make sure he eats enough.
-
Yes, are you surprised? I mean we've got dudes driving to the freaking airport hahah

It's like these people want us to accept a fate as a mediocre basketball program and roll over and die. They don't want us to push back. "It's not the 1980s anymore IU fans, you can't expect to be elite." "You're not going to find another coach better than Crean, no point in even trying." They make us out to be delusional fans for wanting success.
-
The signs of apathy showed up this season and they'll just keep getting worse if Crean is back next year, imo. Bringing Crean back would show the fans that Glass is all talk and doesn't care about IU being an elite program. About all we've got going for us these days is our fan base, and if they stopped caring I think IU would become a dead program. I know I won't waste my time being an IU fan if Glass keeps Crean. No point in hoping for a program to be elite when those in charge let you know they have no interest.
-
If Crean's back IU basketball takes a hit it's not getting up from.
-
I should've known better than to waste one of my free Indy Star articles on Doyel's word vomit.

IU's a good school (I go to it) but it's not on the same level as UVA. The lower admission requirements would allow Bennett to go after kids he isn't able to go after now. Whether he would do so is another story.
-
With the lower academic standards at IU he would probably be able to recruit at an even higher level.
-
How? He wouldn't be coming into a school with an elite roster. He would have to build a roster through recruiting and repair the damage that has been accumulating over the past ~30 years. He's not young but he could easily be here for the next 15-20 years. Between Archie and Marshall I would go with Archie 100%. Marshall has too many Crean tendencies for me.
-
Westbrook is overrated don't @ me. Billy if you come to IU you'll get to pick all your players :)
-
Marshall would make me slightly less upset than another year of Crean.
-
Coaching Westbrook probably drives him crazy. Exceptional talent, but not someone I would want to play with or coach. The situation he's in now in OKC isn't the one he left Florida for.
-
Crean is a very "meh" coach. He's not good but he's not bad either. His results are underwhelming at a school like IU but at a school like Missouri he would be seen as a good coach. When it comes to actual in-game coaching, adjustments, etc. I just don't think he's very good, and that's the kind of coach we need here.
