Good to get the pie in the sky candidate out of the way. Now we can focus on realistic candidates. Do folks prefer Micah Shrewsberry or Randy Whitman?

Zion Williamson confirmed Brad to IU.

If we gave Brad a deadline that’s a good sign that Scott knows what he’s doing. We can’t sit back and wait for Brad to make a decision. He either wants the job or he doesn’t. Schools like Michigan are looking to lock their guys up now that they know we have an opening. If the deadline passes then Scott needs to make a hard pivot to Dusty. I understand that there are limits on what you can do during the season, but it needs to be conveyed to Dusty that we’re prepared to back up the brinks truck the second we’re allowed to do so. I’m that confident in him now.

My answer on a lot of guys is “would like to do better, we’ll probably do worse.” McCollum is one I’m not thrilled at all about, though. He’s a huge risk that IU shouldn’t have to take.

To clarify one thing on my end, I don’t think people are just making up rumors. At least not on here. I feel like pushback against “inside information” is often seen as an attack on the people posting it. I don’t think folks are coming onto btownbanners and posting fan fiction. I think they’re told things by people they know, and then they let us in on that information. Sometimes people get bad info. Other times good info becomes bad info because life happens and circumstances change. We’ll see how this all shakes out.

Well, believing that we were getting Brad Stevens last time and then seeing the “Mike Woodson has been hired as the next IU basketball coach” notification was as big a gut punch as you can get for something like this. If I don’t believe it this time around then the gut punch won’t be as bad.

Yes, I live my life not believing every rumor I hear from anonymous sources on the internet. It hasn’t hurt me yet. This is an exact repeat of four years ago. If it ends differently and we actually get Brad Stevens? Great! We’ll all be happy. But if it ends the same way, hopefully that’ll be the end to the Stevens rumors and people can finally move on.

I’ll believe Scott Dolson can hire a great basketball coach when he actually goes out and does it. Everything basketball-related decision during his tenure has been a disaster.

We “had our guy” last time too and then ended up with Mike Freaking Woodson… I really hope Dolson actually has other guys lined up this time. Otherwise, come on down Coach Randy. We’ll become one last multi-million dollar payday for retirement age former Hoosiers.

Let’s hope Dolson actually knows what he’s doing this time and doesn’t end up striking out like he did in 2021. Hope he’s not relying on the Stevens prayer again.

Woodson skipped the pregame interview. Dude is such a loser. Why is he still the coach?

Getting chills thinking of Wittman running the show with Isiah in a general manager role. You’re talking decades of NBA experience. Recruits will be lining up out the door for those connections.

Roy Williams didn’t quit his coaching job and take a non-coaching job during those three years, and he also was a UNC alum. Brad Stevens has no connection to IU, he quit coaching entirely, and he’s turned the job down multiple times. He left the college game over a decade ago and reportedly didn’t like recruiting when he was in it.

“Inside information” makes a forum fun. I have none of my own, so I enjoy reading what others say. But, like anything else, I try to analyze it based on all the information available. The Brad Stevens stuff has never passed the smell test to me. Nor has the Scott Dolson stuff. Doesn’t mean I’m right, it’s just my opinion.

IU will certainly ask him again. But there’s no reason to believe the answer will be any different this time beyond pure hope But you’re right that so much has changed in 4 years. Stevens quit his coaching job to take a cushy front office job. He’s gonna jump back into coaching at one of the biggest pressure cookers in the country? Doubtful.

Because there’s no reason to believe that he is an option. He’s turned the job down multiple times and then left coaching entirely.

Fans would be happy with his stretch at Marquette, imo. We’d probably get restless at some point, but right now we’re a bunch of parched travelers lost in the middle of the desert. He’d quench our thirst for a while.

Truthfully I know very little about Buzz Williams before he came up in these discussions. However, his results at Marquette, VT, and Texas A&M are all much better than anything we’ve gotten over the past decade and, frankly, better than what IU has done since I became a fan. With our NIL/resources he could probably do even better than he did at those spots. He’s not at the top of my list but IU can, and quite possibly will, do worse.

Given that players were willing to come play in Mike Woodson’s system of all things, I think we could get players to play on the moon for enough NIL.
