  1. They told us that when they hired Mike Woodson. This would just be doubling down and leaving no doubt.
  2. He had a great first year at Drake, definitely. Drake wasn’t exactly in the dumpster when he took it over, and he benefited from continuity by bringing over many of his players. IU will basically have an empty roster heading into the transfer portal. Can be navigate the portal to build a team on the fly that can compete in the Big 10 next season?
  3. He isn’t even the safe pick. Hes been to fewer tournaments than IU over the past 15 years. Hes the “we’ve given up on trying” pick. Cronin is the safe, boring pick.
  4. McCollum would be so underwhelming. I’ve been waiting my whole life for IU to be good. I don’t want to wait yet again for another coach to come in and take several years to try to figure things out. Shades of “don’t worry, it takes four years to learn the packline defense.”
  5. I was talking about his tweet regarding Stevens/Drew/Otz not being in the running.
  6. I would have absolutely zero issues with that. He committed the grave sin of recruiting in 21st century high-level college basketball, though, so IU won’t even have him on the list. Another “most virtuous” banner incoming.
  7. He’s a doofus, but he’s 100% correct here. Don’t overthink it and roll with Beard. I know there’s a lot of “we wouldn’t hire him before the DV incident so we definitely won’t now” but there’s a scenario where that isn’t the case. Maybe that was his rock bottom moment and he’s a changed man, idk. That’s what the interview process is for, but that’s a scenario where he could be a seen as a legitimate candidate now when he wasn’t before.
  8. The same thing IU has been during every step of the way this century - self sabotage.
  9. He doesn’t need Indiana sources to know whether those guys are still in the running.
  10. A lot of the Beard angst would go away if he started winning. IU would have to weather the initial storm, but put a top 15 team together and the large majority of the fanbase would love him.
  11. If “better than Woodson” is the way we have to sell the hire, we’re in trouble.. Don’t let it get past Beard/Wade/Collins, imo.
  12. Oh I wholeheartedly believe he’s a legit candidate. Nothing would be more “IU basketball” than hiring him. We’re a joke of a program, and Dolson is an empty suit who does whatever the IU basketball overlords tell him to do. We thought the Mike Woodson chatter was a joke, and then Dolson hired him, raised his salary for making the NCAA tournament, and then brought him back for a completely undeserved fourth season. *cue the responses that it wasn’t Scott’s fault because he had no power 12 months ago but suddenly has complete control*
  13. If we really can’t get a top coach, won’t hire Beard, and end up with Brad Freaking Brownell, just end the program, bulldoze Assembly Hall, and build Coach Cig a football palace.
  14. “I load my schedule with easy non conference games and then go .500 against real teams. Why isn’t that enough?!”
  15. He’s a textbook narcissist. 41-39 in conference with one of the biggest NIL budgets in the country. His woe is me campaign is disgraceful. If he didn’t want to get fired then maybe he should’ve put in a little effort.
  16. Think of all the times he had to step away from the fellas lounge for a few hours to haphazardly pace along the sideline during IU’s games. The big bully Scott Dolson even made him go to a high school basketball game once last year.
  17. Would’ve been more entertaining if they gave Woodson a mic and let him make an *** out of himself, but this was the better approach.
  18. Woodson could’ve left on day 1 and it still would’ve been too late.
  19. My view is only hire Beard if you can’t get another coach as good or better than him. If you strike out on those guys then hire Beard. He’s a good coach who apparently really wants the job, and that quality is really important to me in a hire. If we pass on Beard to hire a Brownell or a McCollum then I’ll be annoyed.
  20. Hes been to the round of 32 three times at a school that quite literally has never made the NCAA tournament before he got there. I hate the “imagine what he’d do with IU’s resources” take as much as anyone, but he’s the one guy I think it actually applies to.
  21. It’s not about Bob Knight connections, it’s about the Bob Knight mentality/mindset. Bob Knight was many things, but he wasn’t soft, he wasn’t a pushover, and his teams weren’t either. That’s what a “uniquely Indiana” culture is. A full-on Knight mentality wouldn’t work today. But all you have to do is watch the Pitino video from earlier this year and St. John’s results to see that it still works today. Teams take on the personality of their coach.
  22. You’d have to get very far down the candidate list before vetting him would make sense. If IU gets that far down the list, well, that says everything about the state of the program.
