Using “adults” because some posters are expressing concerns with the early results is childish in and of itself. I don’t see anyone claiming that the sky is falling but it’s 100% reasonable to have concerns with how DD’s first few weeks have unfolded.

Just because one team did it and it worked out for them doesn’t mean it’ll also work out for us too. I’m trying to stay patient but from the outside looking in it doesn’t look like we’re firing on all cylinders right now.

Really need some positive momentum because it feels like we’re meandering aimlessly right now - three players on the team, no GM, staff isn’t complete, we’re being outbid, his WVU guys (other than his son) don’t seem like they want to follow him. With all the talk about how great our NIL is, we aren’t making any noise at all. It’s still earlier and ultimately we won’t know how we did until the season gets here, but I’ve been pretty underwhelmed by DD’s first few weeks.

Maybe, but they’ll have to stay affiliated with the schools. No one cares about semiprofessional leagues. If they aren’t affiliated with the schools then popularity would plummet.

Has there ever been a player or coach that you think would want to come to IU?

DD will need to be able to win recruiting battles against other top schools to succeed at IU. Tucker, while a great player, tells us nothing about DD’s ability to win those battles because he’s DD’s son. If he had a different last name then of course the feeling around here would be a lot different because it’d be a big recruiting win and a sign of DD’s recruiting chops, rather than a kid following his dad.

Hard not to feel uneasy at this point. It’s been over two weeks and we don’t have a staff, don’t have a GM, none of his players/recruits from WVU seem to want to follow him, the only portal win is a role player from DePaul, and we’re apparently being outbid for our top targets. Need to start making some moves.

Impossible to rate this move given the current state of the roster. There’s a world where it’s a great pickup, a world where it’s meh, and a world where it’s awful. For now, all we know is DD picked up a player the Wiz Kid wanted, which I think is a positive sign.

Hope we land some guys soon. I’m getting antsy.

He’s two weeks into the job and has literally an empty roster. The only priority right now is fielding a competitive team for next year. Everything else can wait a few weeks, imo. I have no doubt he understands the importance of in-state recruiting/making his face known, but right now it’s tunnel vision time.

Why not? This is the first time I’ve felt excitement for IU basketball since March 2021, and honestly it feels great. We’ll see how the portal goes, but I view it as a great sign all our players left.

(1) Portal doesn’t open until after the National Championship. It’s crazy to force coaches to deal with the portal when their season is still happening. (2) you sit out a season unless you’re a grad transfer or your head coach leaves. People make the argument “but coaches can leave whenever they want!” First off, players and coaches are different. Coaches have contracts with financial implications if they leave. Players right now can really do whatever they want. It needs to be reigned in.

NIL money is crazy to me. A guy like Cupps, imo, is worth a scholarship and maybe some meal vouchers in the Big 10. Hundreds of thousands for a player of his caliber is wild. But I guess that’s where we’re headed with the amount of money going into NIL.

The guys Woodson brought in last year (except maybe Goode) came for the money. It doesn’t mean they’re bad kids, or that money is all they care about, but it’s why they came to play for Mike Woodson. I’m ready for a completely fresh start, so I’m glad to see everyone hitting the portal, as harsh as that may sound. After listening to DD’s interview yesterday, he sounds like a normal, down to earth, hardworking guy, and I’m excited to see who he brings in.

He won 68% of his games and 67% of his Big East games during his second stint at Xavier. I don’t think he’s a top tier coach, but I think it was a good hire for Texas.

Why is the portal open right now? I understand the “need” for it to be open during the CFB playoff because of academic calendars, but that’s not the case for CBB. There seems to be no good reason why the portal is open during the NCAA Tournament.

Beard’s a great coach. It’s been a (self-inflicted) up and down past few years for him, but he moved to 14-5 in the NCAA tournament last night. I hope DD succeeds so we don’t have to think of Beard as yet another coach who got away.

Many people wanted an “indiana guy” because he would “get it,” but you don’t have to be from Indiana/have went to Indiana to be a Hoosier. From everything I’ve seen/heard thus far I think we got ourselves one this time.

Not to make this about Woodson, but the way he conducted himself was a huge reason why the fanbase went so hard against him. At the end of the day you have to win, but like in any setting, people will have more patience and grace for someone they like.
