General Coach Candidate News
Hoosierfan2017 replied to JaybobHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
NC State will end up hiring Will Wade and then we’ll be gaslight into believing that whatever mediocre hire Dolson ends up making was the best we could do. Good coaches are out there. IU just won’t get the hell over itself and hire them. -

Beard and Wade are completely different spheres of issues. Wade didn’t hurt anyone and didn’t do anything that many more established, high profile coaches weren’t also doing. He was just the up and comer the NCAA could crack down on. If IU is still sticking to its holier than thou attitude then the administration deserves all the Ls coming its way. -
Dude has great PR to shift the blame off himself from the Woodson hire, but he won’t be able to do it this time around. This one’s all on him. He’s going to need to either pull a rabbit out of a hat or hope Cignetti keeps winning 10+ games to keep the heat off.

Give Wade a strong *** offer and get this show on the road. The Boy Scout approach hasn’t gotten us anywhere for 2+ decades now. -

It goes far beyond alleged death threats. Woodson, his players, and his Twitter burners have been spinning the blame the fanbase narrative for over a year. And if you’re getting crappy DMs from fans then just turn off your DMs. It’s absolutely nothing unique to IU fans. -

Woodson views himself as a perpetual victim and has instilled that mindset in his team. We need to completely clean house with the program. -

Just lol at the thought of hiring Brad freaking Brownell. I don’t agree with it, but there’s at least an argument for McCollum. Hes young, he’s done extremely well in D2 and is 30-3 his first year at Drake. It’s unknown how he’d do at IU, but he’s won big at the levels he’s coached at. Brownell would just be the ultimate “this program is dead and I suck at my job” hire by Dolson. He’s been incredibly mediocre for 15 years in the ACC. There’s just nothing there to rationalize it. -

Does McCollum always wear a shirt and tie during games? Looked like it in the video Tony posted. That’d be a plus. I hate the new athleisure trend on the sidelines. -

Duke funnels in 5 star recruits. It’s not at all comparable to IU. -

Would our NIL even be elite with McCollum? Before this past year it wasn’t great, but then Woodson’s billionaire buddies dropped fat stacks for him. How many donors even know who McCollum is, let alone will be willing to give him millions of dollars? -

He could! I’m just saying I wouldn’t expect it, kind of how I don’t expect IU football to compete for conference and/or national titles. That’s where my view on IU basketball would go. Maybe McCollum would prove me wrong. I’d hope that he would. My expectations for IU being an elite program would finally die from that hire. Maybe it’s my fault for still having them this late in the game anyway. -

At least now I have my confirmation that the IU basketball program is dead. My last bit of enthusiasm came from holding out for a big fish once Woodson got fired. It got me through the last four years knowing that he wasn’t a long-term hire. Now, though, it’s crystal clear what IU is as a basketball program and I can adjust accordingly. I wish I could’ve witnessed the IU of old, but maybe Coach Cig can bring back some of that magic. -

You’ll be writing Dolson lengthy emails once he hires McCollum and we’re three years into a rebuild heading nowhere. -

It’s literally the AD’s job to attract coaches. He has a ton of positives to sell to candidates. If the best that he can attract to IU is a D2 coach with 1 year under his belt in a mediocre mid major conference, that says a lot about his abilities. He doesn’t get any excuses this time around. -

Time to bully Dolson on social media into not hiring McCollum. -

There isn’t a single player on this team that I’d want back next season. Get rid of everyone and everything affiliated with Mike Woodson’s program and start fresh. I couldn’t care less what Mr. Upstairs thinks about the fanbase. He collected his million dollar mercenary check and won’t think twice about the program once he cleans out his locker later this month. -

He hasn’t equaled Rick Barnes at Clemson at all. Barnes went to the NCAA tournament three times in four years, including to a sweet 16. Brownell before last year was at three times in 13 years, including just twice in his first ten years. Took him until year 8 to win a tournament game. He was at Clemson a decade longer than Barnes before he passed him in tournament appearances… That’s not equaling him. It’s great for him that he made the elite eight last year, but he’s still been a bucket of mid at Clemson. -

I just can’t imagine a world where that would take place. I’d be excited if Smart was a legitimate candidate, but it’d be downright silly to interview him and not the other two. -

Which Brownell is the real Brownell? The guy who went to the tournament 3 times in his first 13 seasons and teetered on and off the hot seat, or the guy from the past two seasons? How much has he benefited from the ACC becoming a weak conference? Sure Clemson isn’t a basketball Mecca, but it’s not Siberia, and it doesn’t have Northwestern’s Ivy League admission standards. His results have been very mediocre and outside of the past two seasons hasn’t shown an ability to elevate a program. I’d much rather take a flier on Collins or a risk on McCollum than go with Brownell. -

One thing that’s a lock is this - IU is a textbook example against expanding the tournament. If this putrid team has a chance there’s no reason to add even more teams. -

He’s a way better main character than we’ve had the past few days…. I’d be a bit hesitant from his flameout at Texas, but he’s done well at Marquette since then. -

How do people overrate him? He won 74% of his games and IU and 72.4% of his conference games. Had IU at 22-4 before he was fired. He's gone to the sweet 16 or farther in each of the last five tournaments. Since moving to the Big 12, he’s dominated, going 34-4 in conference. Hes an outstanding coach and I don’t think it’s a stretch at all to say he would’ve won a title here at some point if IU didn’t fire him. -

Professional meatrider sounds like a legit source to me… lol. Alum or not though, Dolson should’ve canned Woodson’s butt in February to eliminate any charades like this. I’m sure some idiots will believe this and use to to push their “IU fans are toxic” BS. -

When the institution setting the rules doesn’t bother enforcing them and instead celebrates schools blatantly violating them, the rules are meaningless. UNC’s players literally took fake classes and nothing happened to the basketball program. Wade got caught, did his time, and likely will go win a bunch of games for some P5 school. Unfortunately with IU’s holier than thou attitude it won’t be us.
