This will be the 5th tournament Brownell has made in 15 years at Clemson. It’d be hard to find a coach who has made fewer tournaments than IU over the past 15 years, but you’d really have to tip your cap to Dolson if he can pull that off.

Had a lot of work to do today and then the first post I see is talking about hiring Brad Brownell. God help us all.

Not anymore fortunately

Cronin is a real solid coach who would win a lot of games here. He just has an abrasive personality that turns a lot of fans off.

There was also all the weirdness with Woodson’s “retirement” just last week. We fired him mid season, but then let him finish out the season as a bitter, disgruntled lame duck who’s ignoring all his off the court media responsibilities. So, all these outside influences are still clearly lurking. It will take a certain personality to navigate them and make iubb great, and I just don’t see that in Dolson. Hopefully he shocks me.

Scott made the safe decision for his own career. I’m not going to fault a guy for taking the self-preservation route. Dolson’s gotta eat too. But I’m also not going to have any faith in the guy after that either. Sure, he did what they told him to do and hired Woodson as a fresh new AD. What’s the excuse for retaining him for a fourth season when he allegedly had Pearl/May lined up? Pearl has the #1 team in the country, and May has the #1 team in the conference. Combined with IUFB in the playoffs, Buckner wouldn’t have been able to do anything but shout into the clouds. Dolson again made the safe decision for his pocketbook, not the best decision for IU basketball. Now both coaches are likely out of the picture along with BS.

I’m not ignoring football, but he’s not hiring a football coach. Everything basketball-related has been a disaster during his tenure. He’s got good PR with the “I wasn’t allowed to do my job” stuff, but at the end of the day, he’s the AD. The buck stops with him. The “they didn’t let me do my job” stuff just tells me he’s a yes men who’s afraid to make waves.

My criticism of Dolson is a sum of all the basketball decisions he’s made during his tenure as AD. He’ll get some benefit of the doubt when he proves himself capable.

What makes something credible info though? I don’t even know who some of these guys popping up are. When one comes out of nowhere swinging that Brad Stevens is coming, and then hours later Stevens comes out and says he’s not a candidate, it doesn’t paint the best picture:

It has absolutely nothing to do with the other candidates being butthurt and everything to do with wasting time on a lost cause when he could’ve been cultivating relationships with other candidates. Last time he allegedly thought Stevens was a done deal, had no backup plan, and ended up with Mike Woodson.

No but if he makes another atrocious hire then he deserves blame for thirsting after Brad to the detriment of other candidates. If you swing for the fences you better not strike out.

Just hire Chris Beard and get this over with. We’d be rolling by this time next year.

A hire like that would probably be enough to kill my remaining interest. It’s already on life support. I can’t do another of these cycles.

So, either all the stuff about Scott wining and dining Brad over the past year was fake news, or Scott spent all that time and energy but still couldn’t close the deal. Hope it’s the former, but I’m fully prepared for Scott to hire another dud.

All the public evidence pointed to this exact result, so it shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone..

Good to get the pie in the sky candidate out of the way. Now we can focus on realistic candidates. Do folks prefer Micah Shrewsberry or Randy Whitman?

Zion Williamson confirmed Brad to IU.

If we gave Brad a deadline that’s a good sign that Scott knows what he’s doing. We can’t sit back and wait for Brad to make a decision. He either wants the job or he doesn’t. Schools like Michigan are looking to lock their guys up now that they know we have an opening. If the deadline passes then Scott needs to make a hard pivot to Dusty. I understand that there are limits on what you can do during the season, but it needs to be conveyed to Dusty that we’re prepared to back up the brinks truck the second we’re allowed to do so. I’m that confident in him now.

My answer on a lot of guys is “would like to do better, we’ll probably do worse.” McCollum is one I’m not thrilled at all about, though. He’s a huge risk that IU shouldn’t have to take.

To clarify one thing on my end, I don’t think people are just making up rumors. At least not on here. I feel like pushback against “inside information” is often seen as an attack on the people posting it. I don’t think folks are coming onto btownbanners and posting fan fiction. I think they’re told things by people they know, and then they let us in on that information. Sometimes people get bad info. Other times good info becomes bad info because life happens and circumstances change. We’ll see how this all shakes out.

Well, believing that we were getting Brad Stevens last time and then seeing the “Mike Woodson has been hired as the next IU basketball coach” notification was as big a gut punch as you can get for something like this. If I don’t believe it this time around then the gut punch won’t be as bad.
