  1. In what world? Bennett’s worst conference record during that stretch was 12-8. Crean finished above .500 once in his last four seasons.
  2. Yeah, idk what people are expecting out of the hire if they wouldn’t be happy with Bennett. UVA has an acceptance rate under 20%. I’m sure athletes get some wiggle room, but he wasn’t working with the same talent pool that he would at IU. NIL and the transfer portal exacerbated that. His experience at IU would be vastly different from his time at UVA. Maybe he’s still mad about IU firing his sister 20 years ago, but the people involved with that decision are all gone. Would be silly to turn the job down now for that reason.
  3. I think that was when he first started in 2013 and they signed him to a 6 year, $22 million deal. Woj reported back in 2021 when IU tried hiring him that he was making in the high-six million to low-seven million range. In any event, he’s making enough money with Boston that IU can’t just throw money at him to get him here. He’s made it obvious he doesn’t want to be the IU coach yet I don’t think the thirsting will ever completely disappear.
  4. He definitely makes more than $2 million. Likely a lot more than that. This article is from 8 years ago and a $2 million offer for President of basketball operations was considered a below market offer. https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/19846453/cleveland-cavaliers-offered-market-salary-former-president-basketball-ops-candidate-chauncey-billups
  5. Ballo is example #1 of why relying on the portal is so risky. Dude started every game on a 27-9, conference winning sweet 16 team. Left that to join a team that missed the tournament entirely. Guys who do that generally don’t have winning as their top priority.
  6. Woodson has already been fired. Do we really need to keep bumping this thread? I don’t see the point of it anymore. who am I?
  7. IU basketball has been in hell for quite some time. Maybe a religious coach is just what we need.
  8. He does win a bit more than our administration would like from the men’s basketball program, so I agree.
  9. Only Brad Stevens fan fiction allowed in here. Once the pony express delivers the contract March 2nd we’re golden.
  10. Yeah, I just have a very hard time believing that he went from being completely powerless 11 months ago to being in “full control” now. Maybe it’s true that he was powerless, but if it was true, why believe this year will be Dolson’s decision alone?
  11. I just think he’s getting a major pass in this situation and don’t fully buy all the “he had no power” stuff. He’s also continuing to show questionable tactics with the way the Woodson “retirement” played out. Quinn Buckner may be on his way out, but there are plenty of other folks still meddling with IU basketball. What happens when the next person steps up to the plate and tries telling Dolson what to do? I don’t see him going from being completely powerless to wielding all the power.
  12. I didn’t. But I’m just a message board poster, not the guy paid a million dollars a year to, among other things, identify a successful basketball coach and hire him.
  13. Who does Scott get to blame if he screws up the next basketball hire too?
  14. Like I said, scared. Scott didn’t want to ruffle any feathers, so he brought Woodson back for year four. The yes man did what they put him in the role to do, and the guy we could’ve gotten is now sitting alone in first place 70% of the way through the conference season.
  15. Sucks that we’ll probably miss out on Dusty because Scott was too scared to fire Woodson last spring.
  16. He doesn’t strike me as an LA guy, and no one in LA cares about college basketball. UCLA averages 6400 fans in a 13k arena. With all the things to do in LA, it’s just not high on the priority list m. Idk what their NIL is like, but it wouldn’t surprise me if it wasn’t great either https://www.si.com/college/ucla/news/bruins-david-singleton-iii-pauley-pavilion-01jkrvkx03tr
  17. Minnesota has made the tournament 6 times this century. Iowa isn’t much better - 10 times this century. In what world is that comparable to Cronin?
  18. Would making the tournament every year not be a significant upgrade over what we’ve dealt with the past 15+ years? It’s not the end goal, but getting in every year certainly gives you a much better shot at winning the title.
  19. Cronin hasn’t been a coach for “over 30 years.” He started coaching in 2003, and unless you want to fault him for not having a title contender at Murray State, it’s under 20 years. He made the tournament each of his last 9 years at Cincinnati. 4 in 6 years at UCLA (with it being canceled one of those years. So, he’s made the tournament 13 out of the last 15 years. IU has made it 6 out of the last 15 years. We’re talking about title teams when we can’t even make it to the tournament 50% of the time. Who can IU realistically hire that will be better than that?
  20. I think Cronin is a lot better than whoever we end up will be (hello Brad Brownell) so, for that reason, I’m pro-Cronin.
  21. Some of these dudes are turning btownbanners into a creative writing seminar.
  22. Brad must still have dial up if it's taking him until March 2nd to docusign this contract.
  23. Did all that and didn’t even get any likes. Must be as popular over there as he is here.
  24. Beard’s no riskier than a lot of the other names being thrown out. His risks are just different. I’d feel more comfortable with that risk than the other because the off court stuff is entirely within his control. You could do everything right basketball wise but still not get the results IU wants. Beard is as good a bet at getting those results as any coach out there.
