Dolson really pulled a Fred Glass giving Allen a bigger buyout than Ohio State’s coach (and everyone else’s minus three). -

Why do we do this to ourselves…. -

Do we have any QB recruits coming in next year? Because the cupboard is looking pretty bare. -

At least we don’t have to worry about another school poaching Allen now lol. -

We don’t have a single quarterback on our team who is even average. McCulley is playing like a 6’5 Zander Diamond. He can’t throw. We also can’t run the ball to save our lives. We look like a bottom feeder. -

He did give him the big extension, but can’t really blame him I guess. We were coming off 8-5 and 6-2 seasons. I can’t say I’ve ever fully bought into Allen as a coach. He built a good culture but a crappy season like this will put a lot of strain on ‘LEO.’ We can’t be a solid program until winning 6 games isn’t completely dependent on our schedule. We’ve improved recruiting but we still lag behind most of the conference. We’ve went from being competitive against the big dogs to being completely embarrassed by them. All the progress over the past few years is getting wiped out, imo. -
I definitely think we can get our fair share of in-state kids. Jeremy Fears would be a good start. I just think that with schools like OSU, MSU, and especially Michigan it’ll be hard to really lock down the state. Howard’s going to be a force for a long time if he stays at Michigan, imo. And then the big national teams as well. But who knows what happens with NIL. I’m just glad that it looks like we’ll have the ability to supplement with talented kids from other regions. Lots of athletic kids in the south and our staff has been doing work down there.

Wtf are we doing? Is McCulley so bad that we’re playing this rando? -

Glad to see Allen totally had the team prepared for this one! -
Illinois’ coach ripped his team to the media and they respond by knocking off Penn State on the road… hmm.

It’s not really complicated honestly. They’re one of the national powerhouse programs and they’re undefeated. Of course they’re going to be highly ranked even though they don’t look great.

Didn’t get to watch, but really didn’t expect Tuttle to be that bad. He’s worse than Ramsey was, who continues to be one of the most underrated Hoosier football players of all time. Good qb play is hard to find. We don’t even have mediocre qb play on our roster. -

Tuttle’s a dude -
Makes sense that Franklin wants a change. PSU would be top dog in an OSU-less division. You’d think the Big 10 would want to change too. With OSU/PSU/UM/MSU in one division, chances are that the best two teams in the conference won’t meet in the conference title game a not insignificant number of years.

It’s not even really the Nets making him take the vaccine. He’s ineligible to play in all their home games because of an NYC ordinance. The Nets just decided he can’t practice or play on the road until he gets vaccinated either to avoid the awkwardness of trying to accommodate a part-time player. If NYC dropped the rule tomorrow the Nets would let Kyrie come back and play

I don’t see players getting close to that $800k a year unless they change the system again and have universities start paying players. That’s how much Alabama’s quarterback is getting in NIL deals. I am interested in how much our players have gotten so far, though. I haven’t seen any numbers reported yet. Balcony tickets are only $100 or more for the very biggest games. Purdue, for example. Tickets generally are pretty affordable. Right now you can get two tickets in row 43 for IU vs. Wisconsin on February 15. for $35 a piece. Balcony tickets for $43. $91 after taxes and fees for you and that special someone to celebrate Valentine’s Day with a conference basketball game. It’s even lower for cupcake games. You can get a balcony seat for $16 on stubhub right now for our first game of the year against Eastern Michigan. After taxes and fees, it’d cost you $44 for two tickets. I don’t know how much tickets for this NIL event will be because they haven’t told us yet, but if they’re more than $20 or so you’re going to be charging people more for Hoosier Hysteria 2.0 than it’d cost them to go to an actual game.

Me personally, I don’t really care who the individual players are. When I go to an IU event it’s to watch the team as a whole. Like you said, it’s arbitrary how they appear to be doing it. Eric’s “it’s a free market” argument doesn’t hold any weight for me. The free market dictates which businesses want to offer deals to which players. When you’re doing a team event, and you’re very clearly advertising it as a team event, I don’t like paying players different amounts. They’re all part of the team, and they’re partaking in the team activity. Heck, if they host a coed event with both basketball teams are they going to divvy up the earnings based on which team is more ‘marketable’ too? This isn’t the NBA. The players’ marketability is largely driven by playing for Indiana University. TJD has 23k Twitter followers. IU basketball has over 1 million.
-
Yeah I’m not sure how I feel about that. Of course more fans will come to see TJD than Logan Duncomb, for example ( no offense to Logan), but when you’re doing a team event like this I think everyone should get an equal split.

I don’t think I agree regarding Phinisee being able to shoot. While we did struggle shooting the ball under Archie, not everyone struggled as much as Rob. Last year Franklin shot 42% from 3 and 74% from the line. Durham shot 38% from 3 and 79% from the line. Compare that to Phinisee who shot 26% from 3 and 64% from the line. That was below the team average on both 3s and free throws, and we were a below average shooting team as a whole. Of guys who took at least one 3 a game last year, only Galloway shot worse. He has games where he shoots well, but they’ve been few and far between. We have an 86 game sample size that shows he’s a poor shooter from 2, from 3, and from the line. Through 3 years he has a TS% of 45.4%. That’s honestly absolutely atrocious. Could he improve in a new system? Certainly. But I’m not counting on it. He has a lot of ground to make up to become a serviceable offensive player. We’ll see what happens.

Honestly, I see the players’ tweets as advertisements more than anything. I don’t know that their social media posts are indicative of their level of excitement for the event. They have thousands of followers on social media, the more they hype it up the more fans hear about it, which can lead to more money in their pockets. But in any event, I just don’t see the Hoosier hysterics guys doing anything that can’t be done by people who are less embarrassing. Mark Cuban isn’t a connection that they made. I would rather have people who are a little more polished be doing this. Surely the university could find someone.
-
Exactly. If this had been done instead of HH then that would make sense. While similar, it does sound like there are a few twists. But HH was over a month before the season. Plenty of time to deal with any covid issues. I’m sure most if not all of our players are vaccinated, but as we know that doesn’t completely stop you from getting it. Kids under 12, the age group an event like this is largely done for, can’t get vaccinated at all yet. If you want to do a big thing like this in a pandemic then do it in early October when HH is held. Not less than three days before the first game. If Mark Cuban is heavily involved then that does make me feel a little better. He has a home game against Boston that night so he won’t be there, but hopefully his people are the ones running everything.
-
The only problem with that is who’s going to want to pay > $20 a ticket for HH 2.0 only three days before the first game of the year? I honestly just don’t quite understand this event. If you put tickets over $20 then you’re talking close to $100 for a family of four to go to something very similar to what they just went to for free. We’re still in a pandemic, so all the autographs and everything puts our guys in close proximity to hundreds of people days before the season. If it makes the players money then great, just not sure about it.
