Give me Vonleh. I’m all about stacking talent, and he’s easily the most talented. He also could stretch the floor a bit. Shot 48.5% from 3, although only on 1.1 a game. It’d allow Trayce to play the 4 which is his more natural position. Race/Malik would be a great frontcourt bench rotation.

IUFB 2022 Season Thread

Joe Buck went to IU, so i think it was more Aikman giving his buddy a hard time than a shot at IU. -
Say you’re a high school basketball player. Do you choose school A, where you’ll have to deal with those two weirdos, or go to school B where you’ll get paid more money and not have to deal with them? Not a very hard decision, imo… Our rivals love that we’ve hitched our wagons to the hysterical Hoosiers. What 50ish old man types this out and thinks “this is the tweet. This is what I want to send to the 16 year old I want to come to my school.” (Also what 50ish year old man tweets at high school recruits in the first place, but I digress)

So much for them “getting better.” They’re unprofessional clowns. Middle-aged men with the judgment of preteens. I wouldn’t trust them anywhere near a recruit. No idea what the program sees in them. Somehow the big hitters in college basketball have figured out how to funnel NIL money to recruits without relying on carnival barkers. Why can’t we?

Hoosier Hysteria - Oct. 7 2022
Hoosierfan2017 replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I think the most important thing is that the staff recognized the need to modernize Hoosier Hysteria, i.e., bring in a performer like other schools have done, and that the performer we got is the right kind of genre and isn’t someone who recruits would hear and say “who is that?” That’s all we need, imo. Hoosier Hysteria has been kind of meh to me for a while tbh, so I’m glad they’re doing something new. Should be a good crowd with it being homecoming weekend. -

He’s popular nationwide. 7.7 million followers on IG. He’s not in the Drake tier, but he’s definitely someone recruits know. -

I mean he’s coming to rap, not join the team…. So I don’t think the arrest history is that big of a deal. -

IUBB Recruit Rankings
Hoosierfan2017 replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
There are definitely coaches who could get more out of the rosters he’s had than he did. But I’m not sure how many of those coaches could land the level of talent that he does. Seemingly every year he’s getting a top 2 class. To not get too far off topic, we’ve made offers to 13 of the top 30 kids in the 2024 class. Calipari, going off his history, will land 3-4 of those 30 kids. I’d love for IU to get to a point where we’re doing the same thing. -
IUBB Recruit Rankings
Hoosierfan2017 replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Eh, I mean Calipari has won 25+ games in 4 of the last 5 seasons. Won the SEC once, finished second two times. Two sweet 16s and one elite eight (with the tournament being canceled one of those five seasons). 26-8; 9-16; 25-6; 30-7; and 26-11. Is that winning big? I guess it depends on one’s definition. IU has won 25 games twice in the past decade, and four times in the last 19 years. Folks don’t like Calipari’s ways, but he’s been in the elite eight in half of his seasons at Kentucky. I’d rather have to out talent a team using mediocre coaching than out coach a team using mediocre talent. -

This team is so bad. Even worse, Penix looks great again after looking washed last year . -
Texas was back for about a minute and a half.

Maybe the staff cooled on Fears before his official visit and they sent in the Hysterics goofs to finish it off.
-
I can’t stand the Hoosier Hysterics guys. I find them extremely weird and cringe at basically every video they put out of themselves that I see. I try to avoid their content whenever possible. If they’re a net positive, great. Me not being among the people who have to interact with them, even greater.

Do we have any good running backs? -
I don't think the people you're referencing (including myself) were concerned with Woodson's in-game college coaching because of his age or lack of college experience. I was concerned with his coaching ability (and still am, honestly), but that was because of his NBA coaching resume. He was pretty average as a head coach. College is a special kind of situation because you have to go out and recruit teenagers to come play for your school. A man in his 60s having to recruit for the first time in his career is a lot different than a Tom Izzo with 25+ years of recruiting experience and networks continuing what he's been doing for the past 25+ years. If Mike Woodson had Tom Izzo's college coaching resume do you really think anyone would've been concerned with his age? Because I don't. A good comparison would be Juwan Howard. He was an NBA guy with no college coaching experience. He was 46 years old when he took over Michigan. Or Eric Musselman. He had mostly NBA experience, though he was an assistant in college for a few years. He was 51 years old when he got his first head college coaching job. It's not that college basketball is so wildly different that guys with no college experience can't ever find success in college. It's just that it's harder for a guy in his mid-60s to come to college for the first time and have the energy you need to build up a college program.

Two weeks and a day until the first CFB Saturday. I’m super excited for the season as a whole but my iufb enthusiasm is nonexistent.

This comment makes absolutely zero sense. Izzo has coached MSU for 26 seasons. Woody was coming in and building a program from scratch (with zero college coaching experience). Completely different situations.
