What kind of precedent is this setting? UConn-to-Virginia WBB transfer Mir McLean (5-11 SO wing, Baltimore, MD) has been granted an immediate-eligibility waiver, despite having played in 3 games at UConn earlier this season.

Ah yes, the old "Matt Painter to Mizoo" gambit. Well played Brucie.

2 hours ago from Zach Osterman -- Per a spokesman, Rob Phinisee remains in the evaluation process after his injury forced exit from the first half of last night's game against Penn State. Mike Woodson next meets with media tomorrow before his team's trip to Maryland. #iubb Also from Osterman -- FWIW (this is me, not spokesman), have heard there's optimism Phinisee's injury is not season-ending, but too early to know anything for certain.

Rob Cassidy - Rivals One of the top power forwards in the class of 2024, Derik Queen has seen scholarship offers arrive early. Playing this season at Florida’s famed Montverde Academy has further increased his exposure, and additional college coaches are beginning to kick the tires on this recruitment. Rivals.com recently caught up with the young prospect to talk about the schools that are pursuing him and what might be next. IN HIS WORDS ON SCHOOLS IN THE MIX "I’m talking to basically all the schools that have offered, but the last one was DePaul." ON DEPAUL “They’re just telling me how much they like me. Nothing too serious or anything.” ON HIS CURRENT OFFERS “Maryland, DePaul, Alabama, Georgetown and I can't even remember the others right now.” ON MARYLAND “I’ve been to Maryland for some basketball games, but I don't really know a lot about the school or anything yet. Danny Manning, he just got the [interim] job. He came to a lot of my AAU games.” ON DANNY MANNING “I know he did well at Wake Forest and I know he went to the league.” ON POSSIBLE FUTURE VISITS “Texas and Indiana, maybe. Texas has talked to me more but I have [teammates Texas signee] Dillon [Mitchell] and [Indiana signee] Jalen [Hood-Schifino] talking to me about those a lot obviously." Queen is originally from the Baltimore area, so the fact that schools such as Maryland and Georgetown are making early pushes is no surprise. Whether or not either school will be around for the long haul is anyone’s guess, especially when it comes to Maryland, which remains in the market for a head coach. Still, the two programs are in as good a position as any at this juncture. Queen’s recruitment is in its early stages and will change significantly in the year ahead.

(2025)-PF Bryson Tiller to Kansas
Class of '66 Old Fart replied to Uspshoosier's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Jamie Shaw of On3.com Prospects in the class of 2025 have three and a half years left of high school. However, when they possess elite upside, it is easy to take note. Atlanta (Ga.) Pace Academy forward Bryson Tiller has already piqued interest as one of the top freshmen in the country. “My length impacts the game a lot,” Tiller told On3 Sports. “I can shoot from the outside, and I can handle the ball well. I have been working on my ball-handling, which is showing. My shot is also getting quicker, the release. I have heard I play like Kevin Durant. I watch a lot of him, along with Jayson Tatum and Giannis Antetokounmpo. I like how their length impacts the game, and I watch how they use that length to make plays on the defensive and offensive ends of the floor.” It is hard for college coaches not to notice his talent as well. A few programs have gotten out ahead of the pack and issued early offers to the 6-foot-8 forward. Bryson Tiller talks exclusively with On3 Sports about his recruitment. Tiller talks offers “I have offers from Georgia Tech, Tulane, Auburn, Cleveland State, Xavier, and Indiana. I have not visited any of the schools yet.” Georgia Tech: “I have talked on the phone with them a few times, and we have built a solid connection so far. I need to continue getting to know them better, take a couple of visits, and see how they are overall. They play very hard, and they are a really scrappy team.” Indiana: “I have a friend who recently committed to Indiana, Jakai Newton. We are teammates on the circuit, and he is a really tough player, so I know what they are looking for to build their team.” Xavier: “They recently offered me, and I am very appreciative of that, but I have not been able to look too deeply into them yet. I plan to soon, though.” Auburn: “They offered me in the summer. I went to a camp there, where they offered me. I have a connection with head coach Bruce Pearl, and I think he wants a player who plays really hard, defends well, and is an overall dog on the floor.” Tiller’s take “The schools who have offered are the only schools that we are hearing from right now,” Tiller said. “I will be looking for a school that is going to push me to be a better person and a better player. A program who will allow me to do my thing, on the floor, but be structured in what they do.” On3’s take Bryson Tiller has long arms and an athletic frame. He runs the floor very well, switching ends at the drop of a hat. He has athletic bloodlines as his dad, Tony Tiller, played cornerback for the Kansas City Chiefs and Atlanta Falcons. The upside is evident here, and Tiller should continue to progress onto the national scene sooner rather than later. -

Although he was on campus last October, I've not come across anything to suggest we're seriously making a run at him. @Uspshoosier, @Chris007 or anyone else hearing anything different? Only a sophomore, there is a lot of development still to be had. However, Los Angeles (Calif.) So Cal Academy wing Anthony Gilkes has already seen a lot of growth this season. “I’m very explosive,” Gilkes told On3 Sports. “I run the floor and am active on defense. I get my teammates involved and rebound. I’m the energy of my team. My shot has gotten better. Defensively, I play with a lot of energy, and with a good motor. People have told me I play like Dejounte Murray, with the way he defends and how explosive he is.” Gilkes recently transferred to So Cal Academy after starting the season with Bradenton (Fl.) IMG Academy. “I love it here,” Gilkes said. “They have made it feel like a second home for me. There is a brotherhood on this team; the guys are going to motivate you to keep getting better. It’s a lot of accountability.” College coaches have started to take notice of the 6-foot-6 New York native. Anthony Gilkes spoke exclusively with On3 Sports about the current state of his recruitment. Gilkes talks recruitment “I have offers from Ole Miss and from LSU,” Gilkes said. Ole Miss: “My coach called the head coach (Kermit Davis), and I got on the phone with him, and he offered me. They are a good program, and they have a history of developing their guards. I like that.” LSU: “I went on an unofficial there, and they offered me on the visit. I was not expecting them to offer, but they did. That was my first offer; that was exciting.” “Florida State, Georgia Tech, Texas Tech, and Texas A&M are some of the schools who are contacting us but have not offered yet.” Gilkes’ take “I want to go to a program that I know is going to develop me,” Gilkes said. “A coach that will be on me when I am not at my best and a program that will help me grow into a grown man. I want to go somewhere I know will help prepare me for the long run. My mom ran track in high school. She is the one motivating me to take this as far as I can.” On3’s take Anthony Gilkes has a great frame, with good length and natural explosion. He first catches your eye as a high upside defensive presence. He can run and move his feet, and he also has good anticipation in the passing lanes. Gilkes has a reputation as a slasher, aggressive in transition. His jump shot has come around, and he is starting to become a threat from deep. There is a lot of upside here. Continue tracking as he could fully take off very soon.

(2025)-PF Bryson Tiller to Kansas
Class of '66 Old Fart replied to Uspshoosier's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Tiller and his Pace (18-4) teammates hardly broke a sweat defeating Washington (5-11) 65-30. Tiller only played around 21 min. as the game was effectively over after the 1st Q. I had him with 4p 2r; 2a; 3s; 2b; 1t. As I posted in Jakai Newton's thread this game started off with Pace shooting 2 free throws and awarded the ball at mid-court to start the game. Really weird that 2 random games I decided to watch started off the same way. -
NHS (16-3) defeated South Gwinnett (15-6) 71-54 in a game that was closer than the score indicates. It was 47-41 at the end of the third and NHS just played some ferocious defense in the 4th Q to put the game away. Jakai limited in playing time due to foul trouble that sat him for around 4-5 min. in the 3rd Q and a lost contact lens in the 4th that put him on the bench for another 2 min. I scored him with 13 pts. on 5-13 FG; 1-4 on 3s; 2-4 FT; 4 reb; 1 stl; 1 TO. Forgot to mention but the game started out with Jakai shooting 2 free throws and NHS awarded the ball out of bounds at mid-court and I have no idea why. Games on the NFHS network are video only with no play-by-play. And it was particularly strange because '25 Bryson Tiller's game last night also started out with Tiller shooting 2 free throws.
