  1. You'd like to hope that Lilly will eventually become our next Mackenzie Holmes. John Marshall trailed 28-17 at the half but came from behind to win it 61-53 in OT. Lilly finished with 28p 15r 5a 6s Rochester Post-Bulletin: It was a lot tougher this time around, but John Marshall completed a two-game series sweep of city rival Mayo on Thursday in girls basketball. The Rockets had won 51-33 in the first meeting, but they need to rally from a 28-17 halftime deficit to post a thrilling 61-53 victory over the host Spartans in overtime in the second match-up. “It’s just so amazing and I'm just proud of this team,” JM senior Lilly Meister said. “We’ve worked our tails off on defense this year so it was a team green beans.” The Rockets held Mayo to 25 points in the second half, which included five in overtime. Meister nearly sealed the win at the end of regulation. She hit the first of two free throws for a 48-45 Mayo lead with 9.3 seconds left. But after she missed the second attempt, Mayo's Adit Koth drained a dramatic 3-pointer at the buzzer to force overtime. “That was a big shot,” Mayo coach Andy Bromeling said. But JM and Meister controlled the extra session. Meister, who finished with 28 points and 15 rebounds, was 8-for-9 at the line in overtime while Katie Hurt was 3-for-4. “I kind of redeemed myself from regular time,” Meister said. Hurt finished with 16 points and five rebounds. JM overcame a rough 5-for-36 shooting performance in the first half. Defense was a big reason for the Rockets' comeback as they forced Mayo into 23 turnovers. "Our defense definitely won it," Meister said. "We had so many tips and steals. That's what we've been working on this week, just knowing their offense. Our defensive hustle, it just paid off." "The first half we could make a basket to save our life," JM coach Phil Schroeder said, "but we were able to fight through that." JM also clamped down on Mayo's outside shooters in the second half. The Spartans hit six 3-pointers in the first half, but were held to three in the second half. "I thought we did a good job of getting out on shooters, but they make you pay," Schroeder said. “They did a good job of taking control of the game and taking control of the tempo,” Bromeling said. “That’s all they needed to do was control the tempo and we just didn’t respond.” John Marshall (10-7, 9-4 Big Nine Conference) was coming off an overtime loss in its last outing. "I was really, really proud of them because we don't sub a ton was they had to gut it out," Schroeder said. Mayo had a trio of players in double figures. Izabell Ruskell led the way with 15 points, Koth had 14 and Hannah Hanson added 11. The surging Spartans (14-5, 10-5 Big Nine Conference) had won six straight games. Mayo's lone road loss was to JM. The Rockets have been streaky. They had a four-game winning streak, a four-game losing streak and have now won four of the past six games.
  2. Women dug deep in the last half of the 4th and pulled it out 80-70. Gulbe really stepping up in the absence of Holmes. 28p. on 11-15 FG and 5r Berger 19p 10r 8a C-H 14p 6r 5a Patberg 11p 2r 4a
  3. Berger a double double 17p 10r 8a flirting with another triple double but likely won't get it with just 48 sec. left. Grace Waggoner a huge 9 min. off the bench. Just 2 pts. but 3 huge blocks.
  4. New career high for Gulbe with 26. She's 4-4 on 3s tonight.
  5. Minny 10-18 on 3s tonight. We're 5-12 which on a normal night 42% wouldn't be that bad.
  6. We trail 54-53 with 10 min. left to figure things out and pull out a win. Not sharp at all tonight.
  7. Halftime and we trail 37-36. Gulbe 12p 2r Patbeg 9p 2a Berger 8p 2r 2a C-H 4p 5r 3a Nobody in foul trouble for us. Peterson and Moore-McNeil each with 7 min. off the bench. Need to tighten our defense as Minny shooting 50% FG and 50% on 3s.
  8. Apparently game has been canceled or at the very least it's no longer being televised. Sorry 'bout that.
  9. Slow start for our Hoosiers and they trail 21-17 after 1Q. Gulbe with 9 of our 17 and Patberg with 5.
  10. Lawrence North is scheduled to play at Carmel (Sam Orme) tonight and I haven't seen anything to indicate the game has been canceled due to the weather. For those in the area, the game will be televised on WNDY-TV starting at 7:30.
  11. Really good read with quotes from his IU tutor when he arrived on campus and how he went from a young man of very few words to one today who routinely speaks confidently and assuredly to huge audiences. https://www.thedailyhoosier.com/finding-his-voice-the-house-that-helped-shape-ius-mike-woodson/?fbclid=IwAR2sG4dimeTXsyPb_TUd8HBwhuOcvui3Hznft012Q80Nw-y-22FA5tpRqLA
  12. Watched a game from a week ago when CVCA defeated Tuslaw 61-53. Peterson was quite impressive. Finished with 25 pts. on 9-12 FG; 2-3 on 3s; 5-6 FT; 8 reb; 2 asst; 5 stl; 2 blk; 0 TO. Plays under control and showed good body control on drives down the lane. Active rebounder and plays good defense.
  13. GOOD NEWS! Big thanks to our friends @BigTenNetwork who are making tonight's stream FREE on the B1G+ platform.
  14. Montverde participating in the Metro Classic. Tonight they play Bergen Catholic, however the game will not be televised. On Friday at 9:00 ET they play La Lumiere and the game will be televised on ESPN+. Saturday at 3:00 ET also on ESPN+ they'll play Legacy Early College (Coen Carr). I won't post this in their individual threads, but this is also a chance to watch K.J. Evans and Derik Queen in action.
  15. On Friday, you can watch Carr play Bishop Walsh at 3:00 ET on ESPN+ On Saturday he'll face Montverde at 3:00 ET also on ESPN+
  16. Not all that often that I'm able to find game stats for Carr.
  17. Woody holds the school record with most points in a road game in a 72-60 win over Illinois in 1979 with 48. Enjoy.
  18. Peterson is not a new name that popped up from nowhere. His name came up last summer as someone we were keeping tabs on. His AAU affiliation has been with Wildcats Select on the Adidas circuit. He's a freshman so there's not a lot of good info on him that I could find -- no MaxPreps, HUDL, 247, etc. Rivals The following is from a Sept. '21 The Brantley Report synopsis on 10 freshman to watch. FWIW, Trent Sisley was also included in this list of 10. DARRYN PETERSON: Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy (Canton, OH) 6'4 Guard with offers from: LSU, St. John's, Pitt, Xavier, Cleveland State, Maryland, Arizona State, Akron & Ohio State. Darryn Peterson is fun to watch! The 6'4+ Combo Guard plays with a level of poise and confidence that you would expect of a senior. He is athletic and plays above the rim, scores at all 3 levels and has backed up the hype around his name by playing up and competing with the best, regardless of age/class. I had the opportunity to broadcast his game vs. Strive For Greatness (CA) 15u team and he went head to head with Vyctorius Miller (ESPN #8 in 2024). He scored 16 points in that game, but thats not what stood out to me the most. I was impressed with his lateral agility and ability to be a tenacious perimeter defender. Typically when I see a player competing above their age level the scoring takes care of itself, but they typically end up showing their age on the defensive end of the floor. That wasn't the case for Peterson. He is a willing and aggressive defender who has the ability to rebound and push the floor like a savvy vet. I'm going to keep a close eye on Peterson and track his growth and development during his high school career because he has a chance to be special. https://www.thedailyhoosier.com/iu-basketball-recruiting-hoosiers-offer-2025-ohio-guard-darryn-peterson/?fbclid=IwAR33_0_AfmC-FARqRDeWsbnSEkv6x1inLyYTZII_zzUkT-oqoK-zTMtAivE This is a Bucknuts site but has links to a couple of YouTube videos. http://www.scarletbuckeye.com/index.php?threads/25-oh-sg-darryn-peterson-verbal-offer.18922/ In this link it mentions that his stay at Cuyahoga Valley could be just a 1-year stop: https://www.dispatch.com/story/sports/2021/08/30/ohio-state-basketball-recruiting-darryn-peterson/5645364001/ https://pittsburghsportsnow.com/2021/04/12/pitt-offers-6-foot-4-ohio-8th-grader-darryn-peterson/
