Absolutely agree. You want the team to win and be successful but at the same time, wins like this just put another '+' in the retain CTC column. Had they not put it together in the last minutes and pulled out a win, the clamor for CTC's head would have become even more deafening given how poorly they played for the biggest majority of the game.

IU vs ND post-game thread
Class of '66 Old Fart replied to bleedhoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Somehow, this team put it together at crunch time and stole what looked like a sure ND victory. The unpredictability of this team is maddening, frustrating and a whole bunch of other words you can add. Still shakin' my head. -

Whose job was it to feed the hamster this morning? -
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have Stevens as our next coach. But what if he still has a strong emotional attachment to Butler for what he accomplished while its coach and just isn't comfortable coming back to Indiana to compete against Butler for the headlines and the in-state recruits. Just a thought; nothing more.

(2016) PF De'Ron Davis to IU

As big of an event as the Tarkanian Classic is, you'd think someone would provide some individual game stats or, if they have, I just haven't been able to find them. -
Now official 73 - 51 for Incarnate Word. Just think, MSB could have played in this game.

(2016) PF De'Ron Davis to IU
Class of '66 Old Fart replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
De'Ron's high school team is participating in the Tarkanian Classic in Las Vegas. A huge event stretched over several days. They won their first game and this is all I've found thus far: Overland (Aurora, Col.) 62, Poly (Long Beach) 43 Senior Jervae Robinson, a 6-foot-1 combo guard drawing D1 interest, scored 19 points in the win over injury-depleted Poly. The Jackrabbits also had trouble slowing down Indiana-bound power forward Deron Davis, who finished with 10 points. They played again today and defeated Dillard H.S. from Ft. Lauderdale 49 - 45. Can't find any detailed box scores. Overland play again on Saturday. Finals are held on Monday the 21st. http://www.tarkanianclassic.com/2015home.html -

Just consider the source. It's a football school. -

Ohio St. freshman Austin Grandstaff a Top 50 recruit out of Texas is leaving the program. Averaging 11.5 min./game and 4.4 pts./game. Coming out of high school, he was recruited by Texas, Oklahoma, Michigan and Oregon. Iowa St. senior guard Naz Mitrou-Long out for the season. Had hip surgery on both hips last spring and hasn't been able to regain his form. Struggling on the court this season. Intends to seek a medical redshirt. Has played in 8 games this season averaging 32 min. of playing time. I don't know what the NCAA rules are with respect to getting a medical redshirt.

What possible reason(s) could Cuban have? He's an excellent bottom line results oriented man, nearly the complete opposite of what we see in CTC.

I'll ask for all of your collective forgiveness in advance for invoking PUke, but in many respects, Bo always reminded me of Gene Keady. For most of his years Keady rarely signed the big names but for the most part year in and year out he put competitive teams on the court. They may not have hung any banners in the pig sty, but for the most part were always competitive. Gene got a few 'stars', but that's not how he built his program and neither did Bo. I think Bo and Gene both were exceptionally good at recruiting players that fit their style, were fundamentally sound and were willing to play hardnosed team basketball.

Hopefully the latter and not due to any health issues in his family.

Monmouth's next game is against Rutgers, our first B1G opponent. Might be an interesting measuring stick.

Crossroads Classic Pregame Thread
Class of '66 Old Fart replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I went last year, but just can't feel the same motivation to make the trip this year. I just can't get excited about this year's team. Based on our history over the past several years, I feel like I've already read the last chapter of the book and know how the story ends. But on a more positive note, should we stub our toe against ND, cupcake Kennesaw State will ease the pain. This is one bad team. Their record is 3 - 8, and check out their team stats. http://www.ksuowls.com/cumestats.aspx/?path=mbball&year=2015 That game has 100+ points for us written all over it. -
A lot of teams have a bench player who, for whatever reason, is a crowd favorite and will hear his name chanted in blowout games. My god, we've had that over the years with our local high school team. If that is indeed what upset CTC, then he needs to get a life.

My post wasn't as clear as it should have been. I was only trying to point out that we're not going to necessarily have our cake and eat it too.

I don't want to derail the De'Ron Davis thread or that of Curtis Jones either, where optimism is high, and rightfully so, about what they can bring to our team next season. BUT, I hope many of you are keeping in mind that if CTC is not the IU basketball coach next year that it's possible neither will be wearing candystripes in Assembly Hall. I want to see Glass make a change. However, in this day and age, the next coach could be facing every bit of a roster makeover as did CTC when he took over in terms of numbers (emphasis on number not quality) of players that leave the program for whatever reason. Now, should a certain coach presently affiliated with the Boston Celtics land our job, that makeover would likely be far less traumatic.
