Nick Saban lost to Louisiana-Monroe in his first season at Alabama. I didn't even watch the game tonight (other commitments), but am completely unfazed about this result, and I was as big a Crean critic as any for losing games like this. Rome wasn't built in a day. We have a coach whose philosophy is on par with what makes a program great. These are his players now, but he's trying to make his approach work with what he was left with. In all honesty, I'm not sure we win this game with Crean coaching either. This team is a collection of role players who are now being forced to implement this coach's philosophy. These kids don't know how to win. In many ways, they don't know how to play basketball. I still think we pull some shockers in the non-con. I can just tell from Archie's demeanor, he's going to run their ***** into the ground (figuratively). He is as prideful a coach as there is, understands what IU basketball stands for,, and is personally insulted by the performance his team put on the floor tonight. I would also not be surprised to see at least one player dismissed from the team at some point this year, not for character issues, but for not buying into what it takes to build a program based on fundamentals.

Game Thread: Indiana State Friday 7pm BTNplus
Magnanimous replied to WayneFleekHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I can tell from Archie's demeanor, these guys are going to not only be crying, but puking up three days worth of meals when this crap is over. Very in-house hardass. It'll take some time, but these wrinkles will need to be smoothed out. These upperclassmen aren't getting it, and they're going to be sitting behind several freshmen next year. No excuses for this, but he's coaching a Crean team right now, and not sure if things would have been much different if Crean was retained. -
Mark Cuban playing the Kelley card vs. Draymond Green
Magnanimous replied to Magnanimous's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Should make for some good razzing when we host them Feb 3rd. -
Stemming from the NFL's issue with the Texans' owner McNair, Draymond Green decided he doesn't like the word "owner" and equated it to slavery. Mark Cuban called him out on it in a way we can all appreciate. "To try to turn it into something that it's not is ridiculous. Draymond can trash-talk on the court, but when he comes into our world, it doesn't fly. ... I guess it's because he went to Michigan State and didn't take any business classes, but you own equity. When you own a team, you own equity, shares of stock. That's called ownership. Tell him if he wants to take classes at Indiana's business school, I'll even pay for his classes and we'll help him learn that stuff." Link

We're going to beat Seton Hall, Notre Dame, and Duke. We're going to do more this year with less. We're going to make the tournament. We're going to land Langford and Garland. We're going to be a top 5 team next year. We will win the national title within the next five years. We will be the gold standard of college basketball again, and once K, Roy, and Cal hang it up, Archie Miller will be considered the best coach in the country for the next 30 years. Go Hoosiers!

The thing that I like about the IU-PU rivalry is that it is a rivalry in every sport. That can't be said for a lot of other prominent rivalries that we hear about. Is Ohio State-Michigan a rivalry in baseball? Is Florida-Tennessee a rivalry in basketball? There's something extra when it is in-state and in the same conference, ala USC/UCLA, Michigan/Michigan State, etc. I will say this, IU and Maryland are likely going to be rivals in some capacity going forward. In basketball both will be players in the conference, we'll be going at it with them in the Big 10 East for who will likely play spoiler against the brand name football programs, and both schools have tremendous soccer programs. Not to mention their sole championship in basketball came against us.

Except that Romeo was actually on campus. -
(2018) PG Darius Garland to Vandy

I can't keep track of all these new kids. I guess given the turnover of Creans 2008 and 2009 classes, I don't want to get ahead of myself again until the roster really takes shape over the course of the next few seasons. -
Prediction League (Game 8 - Maryland 10/28/17)
Magnanimous replied to Str8Hoosiers's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
Can't see Maryland scoring much with their injury situation. Need to finish this season strong. D needs to come out firing, last two games could be demoralizing or serve as a catylst for winning at least 4 of our next 5. -
It's a relic that should be maintained. I don't even like someone wearing 0.

Made official today for next season. The change will guarantee IU plays Purdue twice each season going forward. -
One-and-done coming to an end
Magnanimous replied to Magnanimous's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Also the NBA should get rid of four teams, shorten the regular season to 60 games, and get rid of the first round of the playoffs. -

Players should also be allowed to get drafted and go back to college if they aren't a first rounder. -

Players should be allowed to go pro whenever they want to. -
In response to the FBI scandal and the fact that the last two #1 picks weren't marketing themselves on NCAA tournament teams, Adam Silver is beginning to get the ball rolling on changing the rule. https://sports.yahoo.com/adam-silver-right-calling-end-one-done-rule-170421752.html

ESPN hires Tom Crean as a full time analyst

It'll offset the buyout. Assuming he won't be covering any Syracuse games. -
Charleston Southern (10/7) added to schedule
Magnanimous replied to Naturalhoosier's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
I'm expecting an abysmal turnout for this game. It's fall break this weekend, it's a nothing opponent, the makeup component may have altered the plans for ticket holders, and it's supposed to rain. -
We're going to have to rely on the Lawrence Franks of the world to wiretap locker rooms.

It's been on record that this stemmed from a completely unrelated/non-sports investigation. They weren't looking for it.
