I think it’s terrible and if they do something they need to start from scratch. But I don’t think that happens in a lame duck session. It was such a great sloganeering campaign issue(WE FIXED COLLEGE SPORTS!!!!) that it’s fair to assume the opposition was pretty exclusively on the merits and a decent piece of the support was to use as a campaign issue and I don’t think that will extend past the election, particularly when you’re gonna have 25 or 30 lame ducks. Man, if they try to cobble something together in December that might make the current bill look sensible.

No doubt they wanted the Congressional intervention and it was a such a great issue for political grandstanding that I absolutely thought it would work. But now Congress is adjourned and the election’s coming up and they won’t seat a new one until January and they aren’t gonna call an emergency session for that. So they might as well pull the plug now.

I don’t think it’s a theory at all, I think it’s pretty clearly what they’re doing.

Maybe, but in my conspiratorial brain this is what I see, using Aberdeen as the example, who I believe is eligible because of the Ohio case: Suppose UF wins the Natty beating, say, Duke. What stops the NCAA from running to a court in, I don’t know, let’s say North Carolina and arguing that the Ohio case was wrongly decided and Aberdeen should not have been eligible and the UF Natty should be vacated for using an ineligible player and the North Carolina judge pulling the pen from his Duke Law pen and pencil set and affirming the NCAA’s position? Unless there is specific law in place that stops that dead, and God I hope there is, tell me you can’t see that possibility?

This is gonna be fascinating to follow. I got to see Shaq at an event when he was in HS and this is what it looked like. Shaq was more skilled, but this is what he was. All those debates about the evolution of the game and how great players from 30, 40, 50 years ago would handle the current style of play? We’re about to see 1 example. We’ll see how Ponder evolves.

At this point NCAA obviously doesn’t care about appearances at all but, man, if ultimately some of these kids are playing and some aren’t and the only distinction is venue how can they be good with that? And the eligibility thing from 1 week to the next, c’mon. Also curious about this: say Florida wins the Natty with Denzel Aberdeen as their starting 2. Would the NCAA try to vacate the championship arguing that they used an ineligible player? Isn’t that the logical extension of the position they’ve taken? If IU went back to back with Wyatt and Daley why would the NCAA had them the trophy? It’s just a clusterf*ck and they need to pull the plug on this because it could actually get worse.

Hurley’s offense is amazing. They run so many actions and some of them are just so complicated. That those kids pull that stuff off, particularly with the massive roster turnover now, is some serious coaching chops.

Very nice getting to do the whole announcement thing with the family. Happy for all of them. Question for those around his neck of the woods. I would really like to see the kid in person this year or next. That would entail driving over from St Louis. I know Austin HS is in the country, but do they play anyone or anywhere that’s more easily accessible than Austin? Terre Haute, Evansville, that sort of thing?

Ellis has been play playing professionally in Italy since ‘21. He’s been playing in La Liga A, Italy’s top league, since ‘23 and was the MVP of their finals last year. He’ll turn 24 during the NCAA tournament. And he didn’t win an injunction. He was ruled eligible by the NCAA. But the Sam Alexis’s of the world are a bridge too far for them. What are we doin’?

This should be a ho hum, of course, slam dunk recruiting announcement, but after Mullins and Haralson, the almost Sisley debacle and the other missed Indiana kids by the past couple of staffs it does the ol’ heart good to see the current 1 close this one out early. Yup. Really good band and my older daughter loves them. Will be in Chicago next April as part of their American tour and I grabbed a pair of tickets for her for Christmas.

2 really pretty passes. Finished with his off hand. Looked reasonably comfortable putting it on the floor. Banged around a little bit. I’ll take it. Now, he seems to struggle with the spacing of drop coverage. Don’t know if I’ve ever seen a kid drop that far. But, hey, ain’t nobody coming off that screen and beating him to the rim.

Thought on balance, once you could actually see the game in long stretches, that was an almost perfect result for what DDV would want from that. Got a win and hammered a team they should hammer. Had some stretches of really encouraging play to build on. Had plenty of moments they can coach from. Nobody got nicked. Giving it an A-. The glaring thing, imo, that they need to get figured out is the Samet/ Sherrell combo isn’t the most natural fit offensively and there were stretches where Sherrell didn’t really know what to do with himself. But it doesn’t look like a straight up misfit. They’ll find it or they’ll sub away from it. On the other side, Butler is gonna have a long, long year.
