Depending how long woody goes for, that’s likely the next coach. Woodson inherited a compete dumpster fire, second only to what Crean inherited. It’s going to take some time to develop consistency — like KU and UNC did with Self and Roy.

Definitely self inflicted. But set the program back decades. Which may have been the idea with the boobs we had running things at the time.

We basically got the "death penalty" after Sampson. That's a long road to come back from. We wandered the wilderness like Moses in the later Tom Crean and Archie years. But I think things are looking up. This new President is certainly setting some expectations it seems to me.

Reneau was listed as a 4*, but I guess it depends on where you look -- so 4.5. But like, I said I don't put much weight on "stars" for an 18 year old.

How many from the BT will get in? We tied for 2nd last year with NW. 8 teams got in last year. If we finish 1-4 in conference, we should be in. They won't completely chooch the BT.

It's called the low hanging fruit. Locking up the players you already know, who you think can compete in the Big10 is the first step. Takes time to review and evaluate the 100s of players you'll need to go thru. -

A kid that is hitting 25% from 3 (and 0-12 against power 5 teams) for a team that can't hit a 3 itself -- how does that help? I agree we need guards that can play. My issue is it's not like you can order them from Amazon. You have to find them, recruit them, and develop them. And yes, Woody and the staff have not done a good job in that respect.

"All kinds" that would have made a meaningful difference? Who where willing to come to IU, vs. the other top schools that were looking at them? Monday morning GMing is easy.

Hindsight is 20-20. Who would you be able to get in last years portal? They did try and it didn’t work out. I’m sure part of the thinking was Gunn and Galo would improve during the offseason. That didn’t happen and now we are what we are.

Of course last year when he was playing guys close to 40 he was asked about it. His answer was along the lines that they are young kids and can handle it. I just wonder if there was flu involved as several players where questionable.

I don’t care about rankings. I don’t care about stars. Many of his recruits couldn’t play at the power 5 level. We are still struggling to repair the damage.

I am sure he does. But some people think these players just fall in your lap. IU has been so down on recruiting for quite some time. Crean was up and down. Archie just flat-out sucked. So it takes a lot to build that back up. Imagine where we would be without Ware this year. Coach Knight summed it up best

That's kind of the problem with focusing on the "one and done" types. How do you build any core? They definitely need to up their recruiting game -- one/two portal guards and a couple of incoming freshmen.
