So can we talk about player development?
IUc2016 replied to Brass Cannon's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Damezi has really improved. He is one of the most consistent defenders on the team. My worry about Damezi has always been that he needs a lot of minutes to have an impact on offense. Meaning that he is a streaky shooter and he may need 2-3 attempts before he is able to get going. With that said, he has improved his three point shooting by 6% and has more makes than he did all of last year. And he has made 9-10 free throws on the year. He is really going to have to figure out a way to make shots with limited attempts. -
Since phinisee is not healthy or even close to where he was at the beginning of last year it really hamstrings this team. Hopefully the next few games he can get his legs back underneath him. He has had a few good games this year despite his injuries. With that said, I still feel like this team's best chance is to go smaller (albeit with a lot of length), but still bring Green off the bench. He does better as a 6th man who can get a feel of the game and come in and try and score. Phinisee Durham Damezi Smith TJD 6th - Green Fill in the rest depending on the flow of the game/foul trouble. Really like Brunk as a backup, not a starter. I do not think Damezi is one of the 5 best players, and honestly i hoped the other wing spot would go to Hunter, but he isn't ready. Damezi is at least consistent on defense. This would also allow IU to bring two guards off the bench instead of starting all three and being shorter on guard depth.

Bingo. There are the facts. Not every player could have been let go because they didn’t have the grades and it would hurt the already fragile APR. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Hmmmmm really seems like your Agenda is to beat your chest every time IU loses that Archie ain't the dude for IU and you told us so. do facts disagree with that story..?
-
It's not HIS story........ It has been reported multiple places. But yes we know that goes against your agenda.

This is where I am at. I really like Archie and the way he goes about running the program and recruiting. But the on the court progression just hasn't been there. I am in no way throwing in the towel. I want to see him win and win big. I am holding out hope that the program turnaround happens here in January. In Archie's first two years at Dayton they missed the tournament both times and went to the NIT one of those years. In his third year they had a decent non-conference but started the year 11-6. After that 6th loss his team went on a run and ended up in the elite eight. Dayton never missed the tournament under Archie again. They were a threat every year to win their league. Now obviously I am not saying this is what is going to happen. I am just stating that this is my hope and it shows it is still possible he can get it done here at IU.

Would Beating Penn St Of Knocked Us To Pinstripe Bowl?
IUc2016 replied to Aaron's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
We both would have been 9-3 and 6-3 in conference. Pretty sure they would have to take the lower bowl as we would be ahead of them in conference. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -
Not having Archie on the committee is fine with me. It’s actually a good thing if you want the basketball program to be held accountable. And ultimately the basketball program has someone very prominent and well known on the trustees which gives them more power and say than any other program. I know many will disagree with this, but just my opinion. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

Agree with this. When it mattered most, coaching won IU the game. Two plays where IU really needed buckets and both times were perfectly drawn up plays. Armaan with a wide open three at the top of the key and Trayce with an easy look at the rim. No Archie and the team were not perfect. For 10 minutes they forgot how to play. But at the end of the game our players executed and theirs did not. Is that not because of coaching? Or is it only when things are going bad that it is because of the coaching? We have admitted we were wrong today. Where were you? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Brunk is proving me wrong for saying he should be moved to the bench in this one. I like it. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

I hope you are right. I just have a fear anytime Joey gets caught in a ball screen and has to recover either to the post or to the wing for a pick and pop.
-
I would like to see Joey Brunk moved to the bench for this game. Mooney will eat him alive as an outside threat. But I am sure Archie will keep the same starting lineup unless Green isn't healthy.
-
Yeah I know. Still doesn't mean that's not why archie declined.
-
Yeah I'm not disagreeing with you that it seems there should be someone to represent the men's basketball program. But you said "no Archie to represent men's basketball". And I would guess it is because Archie himself declined.
-
I would hope it is because men's basketball declined to be on the committee. It is in the middle of their season and all. Not saying that is what happened, just my hope and guess.
-
To be fair that was last year.
-
Also kinda cool how they have a current student athlete on the committee to give her perspective. I am sure that will be a great experience for her.
-
alright I'm done. Sorry for those that had to read this interaction.

no Joe I would not. But whether they suck or not had nothing to do with the conversation of HIRING a new offensive coordinator. Chris stated how much we were paying DeBoer and you said we needed to pay more. IU could go out and hire a new offensive coordinator and pay $1 million and the next day (BEFORE THEY EVER PLAY A GAME) you will make some remarks about how it was a bad hire and they either paid too much for who they got, or paid too little and should have gotten someone else.
