  1. My post was a joke. The may get fired thing was in reference to Stevens from earlier posts in the thread. I was referring to Beard with the "may want to join his best friend..." thing.
  2. Yeah that's a heck of a quote to put out there if you are indeed ready to be back on the sidelines. Kudos to him for being honest about it though. And I may be wrong, but the Wichita St. thing was only intended to be interim right? B/c Marshall was fired so close to the season, they didn't have many options. Again, I could be wrong there.
  3. Alright we gotta stop. The 2 candidates who definitely aren't coming (Stevens and Beard) all of a sudden might get fired and want to come home, and may want to join his best friend (and mentor?) in Bloomington, respectively. It's Monday morning after a devastating loss....our hearts aren't ready for this roller coaster, buddy.
  4. I had no idea what his health problems were, had only heard about health problems. A quick google search came across this article: https://www.sportingnews.com/us/ncaa-basketball/news/thad-matta-health-issues-fired-ohio-state-basketball-gene-smith-replacement/1ukvoms8p6h341fluuxdaat6uf It would be pretty easy to directly correlate the decline in his health the decline in his coaching performance at the end at OSU. 4 years later and he's not yet coaching again makes it a huge question whether he's improved enough to consider it. And to what degree his "improvement" can be linked to the fact that he's just simply not out performing this incredibly demanding job anymore. It's a hard no for me until there is definitive proof he has made significant health improvements. I feel for him as his incredibly promising career was derailed b/c of something out of his control. But we can't be the guinea pig to see if he can perform at that level again.
  5. Seeing Howard have a guy like Martelli on the bench makes me really wish we had experience like that on ours. I'm not sure how often a guy with that level of head coaching experience who was well respected ends up as an assistant in the twilight of his career....likely not often at all. But assuming that the prevailing thought that Archie is here to stay for at least one more year is true, how valuable would some experience like that as an assistant be? I don't see it happening, but it's an interesting thought. Is there a guy who has that high level, well respected experience that, say....lives not too far away? Not sure. It would be kind of Thad if there were no changes at all to the staff. Then again, if there were, would it even Matta? (for what it's worth I have NOT been in the camp of bringing Matta in as the HC after 4 years away, but an assistant? Sign me up!) Also, yeah I know, he wouldn't' take an assistant job.
  6. It wasn’t just one thing for me but the moment I made a big mental turn was the Purdue game. The looks on their faces and their demeanor the whole game was that they already knew they were going to win that game. So much more ready and prepared. There is the laundry list of everything else we all discuss that was already boiling beneath the surface. But that game was the straw.
  7. I’ve only watched part of one of their games this season. But what I’ve heard most about them is they can shoot and they pass the ball really well. The part of one game I watched backed that up.
  8. Yeah getting into the weeds on what happened in year 1 was never the point. It was about the progression over the 4 year period of the scenario that was presented. But as happens here, discussing something like that just gets lost in the why we should fire him now discussion, and we end up with an analysis going into the weeds on what happened in year one.
  9. Yeah like I said it was a horribly constructed roster in his first year, which is a perfect scenario for terrible losses. Terrible losses that were inexcusable and no one will defend. And I said in year 2, that 20 wins was fair to be expected. That was an underachievement for sure. But your not showing up to work on Monday and showing up on Tuesday being progress analogy is not even close to the scenario that was being discussed. But look, I get it. It’s increasingly difficult for many people to separate the exact scenario we are in currently in this moment from a scenario being discussed on this board, to refer back to Stuhoo’s post.
  10. No. This team against last year's team....eh, this year's team is probably -2.5. If they are better it's not by enough. Anticipated follow up question to me: "Then why are you talking about their progression?" My answer: "I'm not."
  11. Well after this game my thoughts are basically....who cares anymore right? You won't find anyone in our fanbase that says some of our losses early on were ok. But, I guess we disagree on a few things. I think expecting that roster to win 20 games his first season is quite the stretch. That was one of the most horribly constructed rosters Crean assembled in my opinion. Year 2 it was fair to expect that from that roster. As far as progression, I don't follow how it's not valid. So we were worse than you expected in those 2 years, do you not expect to see progression? There is a far better argument to be made to fire him if he had been better in the first to years, and therefore very average across the board all for years than there is to fire him after the 4 year progress that Stuhoo laid out. It's all a moot point now since making the tournament at all is on life support, but that wasn't the point. I suppose I'll hope that in whatever year Archie is actually fired, that Villanova and Virginia all of a sudden decide that progression was not the important thing. The first few seasons being underwhelming were the important thing, so Wright and Bennett have to go. Maybe we can snag one of them.
  12. Look at the bright side....Everton just went up 2-0 at Anfield in the 84th minute......
  13. I like the under today. Sparty to cover, Hoosiers money line.
  14. You’re disagreeing with your reasoning being to remove the entire context of the scenario Stuhoo is presenting. Of course if we don’t make the sweet 16 or even the tourney, Stuhoo doesn’t make this exact case. And I don’t think he’s giving him a pass on the first 2 seasons. He’s making the case that the overall progression of those 4 seasons would not warrant a firing. It would be asinine to fire a coach at that point and expect to get anything but laughs in our face from legitimate candidates. Our best choice would be from scraps on top of a flaming pile of dogs***.
  15. I'm not plugged in to Vandy baseball but I have a couple of friends that are alums and are plugged in. I've never heard this. I think where this might be stemming from is how Vandy handles grant money for many baseball players. D1 baseball has very weird scholarship rules saying you can allot something like 11.5 full ride scholarships across 30 different players. But as I understand it, b/c Vandy is pretty expensive, they have a lot of students qualify for grant money based on family income. I think the baseball program in particular takes advantage of this b/c qualifying for grant money does not count against the scholarship limit. So they can skirt around the rules by offering at least "partial scholarships" to many more high level players than other schools can.
  16. Huge week. Need this one to get rolling. Minny winless on the road. Carr not great on the road. Minny struggling with injuries. Seems like a lock for: Minn - 74 IU - 66 Carr w/ 32/7/9, someone we’ve never heard of with 12 off the bench on 4-5 shooting from 3.
  17. Common ground! I actually agree with you on this, LCS. I've been in the camp for quite a while that the tradition in our jersey/uniform is far more the candy striped pants than the jerseys themselves. Every other blue blood has made changes to their uniforms, some subtle, some not so subtle. Their legacy/tradition/standing has not been affected. Keep the candy striped pants. We don't have to go drastic on the jerseys but I'm on board with some alternate options and some modernizing. I've never really thought about the floor. I'm indifferent there, but I'd be down for freshening that up too, within reason.
  18. Down 2 TDs and getting nothing from the run game. Time to let Penix and Fryfogle go to work.
  19. What is the last game Trayce showed up from the start ready to go? Even when he isn’t missing bunnies he rarely looks like he actually wants the ball when he gets it.
  20. I, and likely many others, desperately hope you take your coaching talents to either Purdue or Kentucky some day. Please let me know if I can ever put a word in. I may even proactively do it. Thank me later.
  21. We could play a back to back on Saturday/Sunday when they come to Bloomington. There is, for the most part, enough time on both sides of that weekend for both teams to make it happen if they really want to get games made up. Of course, that will never happen. And honestly, if MSU is still a quad 3 opponent by playing them at home, I don't really want to play them twice there. I have talked myself into and out of doing this in 4 sentences. Carry on.
  22. I'm not commenting on the coaching, who out coached who, etc. But this last sentence alone indicates you never had any intention of seeing any coaching positives. Off-balanced shot? He had an open runner in the lane. Lucky shot? He pump faked, dribbled right, set his feet and took an open shot at the top of the key. It was lucky b/c.....it went in? On a night he was shooting the ball well from deep? C'mon man.
  23. We'd do ourselves such a huge favor to win at least one of those quad 1 games (and not lose to MN or MSU). If we went 2-4 (excluding make ups) and both wins were a quad 2 and 3 win, I think that would make us 2-11 in quad 1. Yikes. 3-10 isn't much better but I think that would give us a combined 9-11 record in quads 1/2 which would get us in. (Set aside that just getting in should NOT have been the goal this year). But Providence is dangerously close to becoming a quad 3 win now. Stanford could do us a favor by finishing strong. Ultimately we play in a league where nearly every night is a huge opportunity. I'd love to know @Uspshoosier's opinion on if we end the regular season at 13-12 with our quad 1 record 2-11 and quad 2 record 7-0?
