General Coach Candidate News

The whole thing really stinks. -
I did not need to know about this. That '87 gym bag slaps (do the kids still say that?)

Regardless of who our apparel contract is with, there is no reason to buy anything with that brand on it. Only IU gear I own across the board is from: https://www.homefieldapparel.com/collections/indiana-university-iu-hoosiers-store with the exception of one shirt from this brand: https://www.originalretrobrand.com/collections/indiana-hoosiers If I lived in or near Bloomington, I'd give the HoosierA1vintage kid my business as well.

I find this to be a very acceptable exception to the rule.

And 40+ of the 50+ will combine it with a poorly fitting jersey. It could serve as a haunted house, really.

I dropped that bomb 2 minutes before going into a meeting. Glad to see I still have access :-).

My related hot take on this is the candy striped pants. If you are anyone other than a current player on the team on gameday, you look dumb wearing the pants.

I'm not comparing the two coaches. Just their general approach to NIL and players making it priority #1. Hurley's been pretty vocal about it. Whether he came off of that approach for Spencer? Maybe, I don't know. I agree there probably aren't many similarities between the two coaches. I was only responding to the general sentiment that we need to be going after players that have NIL requirements up front, etc, and giving a pretty real example to counter that.

I'm sure there are plenty of coaches who make promises regarding NIL and playing time, and I'm sure it works. But outside of Woody, I can quickly think of one coach who has been on record saying something to the effect of if NIL is a player's top priority, the conversation ends there. Dan Hurley. He's not messing around with players who have NIL demands, he wants players who want to be there playing at UConn, and the NIL stuff will work itself out. I'd say he's doing well with his philosophy. Only pointing out here that there is a very relevant and successful example of Woody's general philosophy in this area working out quite well.

Real Madrid, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Juventus. Adidas can afford to lose their 2nd biggest US based college bball school and not bat an eye, replace us or not. At this point in IU hoops history, we are probably luckier to be Adidas’ #2 than they are to have us as their #2. Not saying our brand isn’t valuable in college hoops terms. But in the grand scheme of things (Adidas paid just one of those clubs $1.2 billion for their contract) losing your 2nd biggest college hoops contract for a company like that is like IU hoops losing its finest ball boy.

I’ve always said our iconic look is the pants. Not the unis. Every blue blood basketball team has modified their unis over the years. Kansas has some really solid alternates, even under adidas. Holding on to the classic look with no names is meaningless. And has, obviously, nothing to do with success and a winning tradition. Our look and what we are known for is the pants. Keep the pants. Let’s update the unis.

It’s a fair concern as he’s only a couple years younger than Woody. But as USPS has pointed out he’s spent his entire career in the college game as opposed to taking his first college gig. And Woody seems 10 years older than he actually is. Pearl seems 10 years younger. 8-10 years of Bruce Pearl could be a helluva ride. -

You obviously aren't considering the importance of some dude's need to not think it sucks to watch his favorite basketball team. They're just demons. That's gonna have to take a back seat to some guy who's just darn tired of watching his basketball team lose. (heavy, heavy sarcasm regarding this trash take, just to be very clear) -

I can't see the timing of these things (hiring Woody, wanting May in a few years) coinciding. At the time Woodson was hired, Dusty May's head coaching record was 47-41 with the only postseason appearance being one year in the CIT. If hiring Woodson was step 1 of a larger plan, there is no way Dusty May was a part of that larger plan at the time of the hiring. -
Most definitely. Unfortunately Woody is 65 and seems 10 years older. Pearl seems and acts light years younger than Woody. Even at 63, 8-10 years of Pearl could be the most fun 8-10 years we’ve seen in a very long time.

This is awesome. I get it, he's punchable, and we hate losing to Purdue. But this is awesome, and hilarious. He could have ramped it up even more. I hope one of our players said the same thing when we won in Mackey last year. I loved Sheehey flexing in Mackey. I look forward to the day we field a team that plays like they do and earn the right to confidently take some jabs in the presser.

We’ll see you on Friday, my friend. :-)
