They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread
NashvilleHoosier replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I'd put it more like: 1 Final Four (lost by 1pt on a controversial ending) 1 Elite 8 (lost by 1pt) 4 Sweet 16s (another 1pt loss, and took a mid major 12 seed) Division 2 National Championship It's his dream job Young Brucie would take us on one helluva ride for 8-10 years. -
Maybe this goes in the firing thread, but I'm putting it here b/c this what I'm doing if I'm Scotty D to ensure the right thing happens. Coach - tough season, but let's take a look at the larger picture. You united the old and new amongst the fanbase. You made Coach Knight a regular presence around the program before his unfortunate passing. You took us to 2 straight tournaments after a 6 year drought, including a protected seed. You pushed a kid that wasn't on draft boards to a lottery pick in one season, and put TJD in a position to be drafted. You brought Ware in for one season and have him in a position to be a first round pick as well. You've opened up a recruiting line to Monteverde. You swept Purdue in a season everyone expected them to be soundly better than us. You've significantly improved our schedule and have us playing in games against Kansas, Arizona, UConn, and the Kentucky series is back on the books. You've got us playing in a premier non-conference event like the Battle for Atlantis, where we usually only played in the Maui every 5 years or so. You know Indiana is a brand in college hoops that belongs in big time games and events like that, and you made it happen. We can't thank you enough for the position Mike Woodson has put this program in. When we set out on this journey, we both knew the timeline would be fluid. I think we both know that now is the right time to take the next step as a program, and we're well positioned to do that with the foundation you've built. Here's a check for what we've agreed on. Here's a bottle of the finest Italian Tempernillo Big Red sells. I've already booked your tee time for one hour from now. Enjoy retirement, Coach! (feel free to add more fluff)

Young Brucie is a spry 63. He’s got a solid 8-10 years left and he could ignite one helluva ride pretty quickly. Even if we got 6 or so good years of a Young Brucie ride, we’d be primed for a 52 year old Dusty May who has 6 years of power 5 coaching under his belt if we wanted him. -

Young Brucie is a spry 63. A solid 15 years younger than Ol’ Woody. -

Boooo. C’mon, this helps nothing. I’m not always crazy about the vibe @Ngw7183 posts give off, and I sometimes respond in a smarta$$ way…matching pace and all. But I for one appreciate the banter, and if you can look past the odd vibes, I appreciate the perspective. Oh, and just setting an example here, tag the person in a post like this or it’s super lame. -

Knecht went to a team that returned Zeigler, Vescovi and Jordan-James. Miles better that X, Galloway, and (empty spot at the 3 begging to be filled with a guy like Dalton Knecht) -

I don't think it's very helpful or relevant to compare what this exact FAU team could do in the B1G and what this exact IU team would do with FAU's schedule. I would hope, if May were to come, that he doesn't just bring his exact roster along with him. Bring a few that are good enough, try to retain guys like Reneau, etc. But if you're telling me that May could take the exact same roster he was able to build at FAU, and it be the 5th or 6th best team in the B1G, even this year, then the moderate skepticism I've had is melting away fast. Sign me up yesterday. B/c he'll be able to build a much better roster at Indiana than at FAU. -

Yeah, sure, sometimes. And sometimes it’s a really good coach developing an unknown player into a star? Look I get the skepticism. I’m plenty skeptical myself. I’m only offering a counter to the idea that we should discount his FF run and maybe not give him credit for his best player. -

You’re right, if they lose to Memphis we likely aren’t having this conversation. On the flip side, if the FF game doesn’t end in similar fashion, he coaches for a National Championship. They still beat some really solid teams along the way. And I’d imagine if you remove the biggest accomplishment from each candidate’s resume, many will be less appealing and some would no longer be considered. And the Johnell Davis thing seems like quite a feather in May’s cap, no? Every single high major missed on this kid, he develops into an all-American under May and comes back to play another year for him at FAU when he could have hit the portal and had his pick among the who’s who of college basketball. -
Watched the game with a Kansas fan. When talking NET rankings, quad system….he was aware of most of it, but i had to explain to many details. Like that a quad 1 win today may not stay a quad 1 win as the season plays out. He watches plenty of hoops but just never has to worry about knowing what any of that means. Lol…fun conversation as we lose by 20.

IUFB Offseason Updates
NashvilleHoosier replied to ThompsonHoosier's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
Just to get stupidly ahead of my pessimistic self….Cig, at 62, Said he wants to coach for 13 more years (I think?). He previously thought he’d retire at JMU, but we came back with the 2nd offer he couldn’t refuse. I’m starting to get scared that he does so well in year 1 and has recruiting in roads like this that he’ll have to consider an offer 2x what we are paying him when he’s 63 and still wants to coach for 12 more years. It’d be a very IU football thing to happen. -
Oh c’mon. So there are 4 coaches that are available now that can save us or we are done? The overwhelming majority of coaching candidates that get mentioned on this board will still be coaching at their same job next season, so they’ll be just as “available”. Nobody even knew who Dusty May was until last season. There will always be hot new names come up. What if Michael Lewis has a breakthrough season next year? I’m 100% okay with us making a change this offseason. But this is quite an overreaction of a take.
-
No, you haven’t. You have not seen anyone say the words “we will need to give Woodson 4 years to get it rolling”. And even if you did, shame on you for being the guy who sees something posted “on twitter or another board” one time and falls for it, can’t see beyond it being an opinion that the overwhelming majority of the fanbase doesn’t share, and does the “a lot of people are saying…” nonsense.

I’m sure this is supposed to be funny, but surely we all know there isn’t a single chance that this is how those conversations would go.

Regardless of the outcome or decision made, I only hope that not a single ounce of the most minuscule thread of consideration is given to what fans on twitter are saying. -

I did not need to know about this. That '87 gym bag slaps (do the kids still say that?)

Regardless of who our apparel contract is with, there is no reason to buy anything with that brand on it. Only IU gear I own across the board is from: https://www.homefieldapparel.com/collections/indiana-university-iu-hoosiers-store with the exception of one shirt from this brand: https://www.originalretrobrand.com/collections/indiana-hoosiers If I lived in or near Bloomington, I'd give the HoosierA1vintage kid my business as well.
