11 games just does nothing to alter my opinion a bit, especially when we're facing teams in the bottom half of the conference and when we've looked pretty unimpressive ourselves for most of that stretch. I really don't see how one season, much less 11 games, should be enough to change anyone's opinion or say he deserves more time. His entire career he's had a year here or there, but he's never been able to sustain it. Unless people expect me to believe that more than 15 years of evidence isn't indicative of his actual abilities, when even Calipari accomplished more pre-UK than Crean has in his entire career, and on that I couldn't possibly disagree more.

People want to talk in hypotheticals so much. "This team could be special". "If we get these players we could be dominant". It's hope and dreams. I'm analytical and at some point a resume is indicative of coach's caliber, at this point I'd say his resume is pretty indicative since it's the better part of 20 years; and he's never really won anything in that time. That's why I bring it up so often, to me it does matter because of the sample size; for what people think this team COULD be we have a large sample of years to look at and say not likely. At some point enough has to be enough. There has to be a point where you just admit he's not good enough to reach the levels we should expect here. A coach has to earn stability, giving a mediocre coach all the time he wants isn't going to make him any better; frankly, the results over his career shouldn't warrant the rope some want to give him.

Seems to happen every year, people getting excited over how we look against bad teams.

Frankly, I would still fire him. I don't see how anyone can say this stretch has taken him off the hot seat. We've had an easy schedule in this stretch. Sure the team looks better, I won't deny that, great at times, but much of the time we haven't looked particularly good even against bad teams. We looked less than impressive for most of the ND game and against Rutgers and Nebraska and Minnesota and Wisconsin. So how much of it is our improvement and how much is weak competition, at this point it's probably a combination of both and we won't really know how much we've improved until we play a team that's worth a crap. Yes, the defense looks better and the effort is definitely up (impossibly low standard since they didn't even try to play defense before) and turnovers are down but beating bad teams has never been a problem. We're also not to the point of the season where Crean's teams always start to fade.

Then here's a positive post for you. As for the bolded, we can dream that the powers to be will suddenly wake up and give a crap can't we?
-
It's Cleveland though, everyone has been bad in Cleveland for a while now.

I wanted to see them do something about the defensive side, and at least they're trying. I could somewhat understand saying Knorr needed another year, I wasn't sold and our tackling was atrocious, but this doesn't upset me.

It might be a too early for the peak. Although I would advise everyone to expect the team to peak too soon and the wheels start falling off late in Feb, that's just status quo with Crean as coach.

I certainly wouldn't complain about adding another 4* defender to the team. -
I don't care what he does this year, and frankly no one should. This is his 17th year as a head coach and aside from a whopping 2 conference titles he hasn't won a thing. He makes a good adjustment sometimes but on the whole he is wildly mediocre. In power 5 conferences he's finished in the top 5 twice to date. At this point in his career he is what he is, and he's not going to improve much (and he needs to improve quite a bit). With that much of a sample size one year shouldn't be enough to save him. He's in the deep water and he's not a good swimmer. Get a boat and get him out of there instead of thinking he'll turn into Michael Phelps.

Now that's a good win. -
I think we should be competing for the B1G every season. The tournament can be a bit of a crap shoot so there will always be years when we lose early.

Indiana vs OSU Post-Game Thread

I still think it's pretty bad this was brought up as some sort of real accomplishment. "Hey, give Crean 4 years and he'll have you ranked at least 1 week". -
Based on a quick search I found a list updated on 1/1/2016 and it showed Popovich at 11 mil/year. No way a guy that's already failed in the NBA should get more than that.
-
Essentially the organization that's already run him off once? Why?
-
This is pretty much my stance. The team looked good today, but one game shouldn't change anything. His current results here would've already gotten him fired at the other blue bloods, and probably a couple teams that aren't quite on that level historically. He's still a coach that in nearly 20 total years hasn't really won much of anything.
-
My opinion hasn't changed at all, I would still fire hit the very second the last game ended. I don't give a crap about one season, one game means even less to me.
-
I've said it before, I think Glass is just a Crean fanboy. I don't think we get a new coach unless we get a new AD. He pays lip service to having expectations, but doesn't actually have any. Now, he's welcome to prove me wrong by firing Crean. It's not like it'd be undeserved. If he proves me wrong, I'll admit I was wrong.
-
I could have my timeline mixed up. Even if we weren't oversigned this year it means it's a bit an anomaly in Crean's tenure, we've oversigned pretty well every season.
-
Davis was booted around the same time as Holt too.
-
I didn't really count a scholarship opening because a player got kicked off after the class was on campus. If Crean figured on that happening there would've been more players in this class.
-
If Greg Maddux wasn't a unanimous Hall of Famer, I doubt if anyone will be. What's astonishing about there never being a unanimous HoFer is that it means someone didn't vote for friggin' Babe Ruth.
-
This isn't really a hypothetical. It's not a question of if we over sign, it's by how many.
-
This. We've played Rutgers, Nebraska and a not that good Wisconsin. And Wisconsin missed several good looks, though to be fair so did we.
