I get the thought, but we cannot wait around for one of those coaches to need a job because the elite, home run coaches won't 'need' one. We have to identify who we want, then go out and do what it takes to get them; they want to win big, we have the resources they need.
-
I never had any doubts Harbaugh would turn Michigan around. The guy is just one heck of a football coach.
-
There's the possibility, sure, but with the sample size we have on him I tend the think past performance is pretty indicative.
-
No one has said we were a national power before Crean, but that's not really the point. Do you lower expectations or don't you? I say you don't, because lower them once and you will find a reason to do it again. We need to say "these are the expectations, now go do it. No excuses.". Alabama football wasn't Alabama football for a while, then they got tired of it and said "screw it, we're Alabama" and aimed for the cheap seats. In my opinion that's what we should be doing instead of saying "we'll we could've struck out, so a single is good enough".
-
Who said he wouldn't. I'm as critical of Crean as anyone on this board, I've been outspoken on my opinions of him as a coach, and I never thought for a second he wouldn't be back. My opinions on why I feel that way are also known.
-
It's only 18 years, and only like 4 actually count. What kind of sample is that?
-
To be fair, Indiana's record in the BTT is pretty bad even without Crean.
-
This is a serious question, and not intending to draw out the "same old JS" crap, but what's his postseason record over his entire career without Wade and Zeller?
-
Yep. I don't believe that was something that just slipped his mind, but I'm not going to beat him up over it; those things happen all across the country a lot. The bumper sticker stuff also. Incredibly stupid ruling to us, but in the eyes of the NCAA it's impermissible benefits from a booster.
-
There is no such thing as a program that is 100% clean, no not even Crean's. Alford posing for a charity calendar is lightyears away from some programs (I'm looking at you, Kentucky). If you want to mention Alford and Edwards, then we've certainly had our share of those type of things lately.

Yeah, to say he'd steamroll everyone and go undefeated is a leap. I don't think that has anything to do with style though because there's a reason it hasn't happened since 1976, it's incredibly difficult. It's not like team's can't be successful playing a similar style though.
-
Like when he started taking a bigger role in recruiting again and largely assembled the 2002 team?
-
Not a good comparison. He had just led us to a national title, and undefeated at that. National titles give coaches a little bit more leash than Sweet 16s.
-
With Hartman I felt he could be a solid contributor if he was given the chance to develop. I knew he wouldn't contribute much early.

One thing I keep seeing is "if someone better is available" or something of the sort. I get the thought, but if we're talking available like a free agent pro athlete that's not going to happen with the home run coaches (Stevens, Donovan); if they were ever a free agent of sorts they wouldn't be long. I'd say probably what we'd have to do is decide if that's who we want we have to make a real and serious effort to land them knowing we could strike out. It won't happen to where we can say 'Oh, Brad Stevens needs a job. See ya, Tom'.

I have nothing to apologize for. I've said the COY was deserved, but that doesn't change my opinion of him. It took more than 1 year for me to feel he's not the solution long term, and it's going to take more than 1 year to change that opinion. I've consistently said I don't care about the results of one season.
-
On the flip side of the coin, he didn't make it past the Sweet 16 as a #1 seed with the #3 AdjO and #28 AdjD.
-
I never said he would. My post solely had to do with recruiting. None of us know for sure if he would or not, but again I never said he would.
-
You've always needed talent, that's never not been true. Bob Knight's best teams were all loaded.
-
I don't think he'd have a problem with recruiting at this level, granted it's opinion either way since neither of us know for sure. We could also surround him with assistants to make the recruiting easier.
-
At IU Stevens would have resources he didn't have at Butler. He'd also have an easier time with his NBA experience to pitch. We didn't know if Crean could recruit at this level, he never did at Marquette. The Indiana name helps him even if people don't want to admit it, and it'd help Stevens too.

It's hate, but it doesn't stem from jealousy. Purdue's hatred for us? That stems from jealousy; it's why they stole Little 5 and This Is Indiana. Our hatred for Kentucky isn't based in jealousy, it's pure hate. They have proven themselves to be among the most corrupt programs in NCAA history, literally. They have been CAUGHT cheating 6 times; that includes point shaving, academic fraud, and envelopes of cash to recruits. They've received the NCAA's death penalty once narrowly avoided it a second time. They have a win at all costs program and it's always been that way. Then they turn around and hire a guy that has left programs on sanctions and has always managed to slither out of town just ahead of the NCAA; a guy that represents everything wrong with collegiate athletics wrapped in a suit. A guy that managed to get himself run out of New Jersey, a feat not even the cast of Jersey Shore managed to pull off (I'm still trying to figure out what the hell a snookie is, aside from revolting). If pUKe was cheating now it'd rank right behind the Cleveland Browns sucking on a list of most shocking things in sports. Absolutely it's hate, but it's not jealous hate. It's a hate of everything that program has stood for throughout it's history. I hope they lose every game by 5 figures; I hope fire and brimstone rains down on Lexington and all of it's inbred hilljacks have to watch as the only thing they have outside of horse racing is laid to ruin.

Tom Crean's postgame locker room speech
JSHoosier replied to Magnanimous's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I don't expect much drop off next season, really. Not necessarily win the conference, but definitely compete. There is still a lot of talent on the team. -
Yes, he's done a good job THIS year. We've seen that before. That does not, however, mean they are lasting changes which it seems people are automatically assuming.
