Outside of that one reporter going too far questioning his wife, has there been much at his family besides some high school kids chanting? I don't recall hearing anything else. Note: Honest question, I'm not endorsing any of it. Whatever you think of his coaching abilities, leave his family out of it.

That's what's so frustrating to me. This program has everything it needs to be one of the best in the country, except for one; and that one thing is at least partially controllable. Where Kentucky went after who wanted, where Alabama went after who they wanted because they knew and cared what those programs are capable of; I don't for one second think our administration is in that ilk, I think they know but couldn't possibly care less. Frankly if it was reported tomorrow that Crean was signed to a lifetime contract I wouldn't be the least bit surprised.

That Syracuse game was painful to watch. Comically unprepared. I can handle a loss better if the team was ready, i.e. UNC.

Agreed on going to the first unread post. Clicking the unread content link is an unnecessary step.

I'm just speaking from a fan standpoint. I don't think the administration, Glass included, cares if the program returns to what it's capable of though.

I'm still trying to forget that out of bounds play. Or the one against Butler. Thanks for that...

I'm just trying to see if posters on this board are willing to be proactive about getting a great coach, and not sit around and hope someone comes calling. I've said he's earned one more year but that's it. It took more than one season for the fans to get to this point, so the leash shouldn't be much longer because of one season either.

In an ideal world Stevens would tell us "sure, I'm coming" before hand, but the world isn't ideal. You want to have your cake and eat it too, that doesn't happen either. I think it's more likely we'd have to go into it with the mindset that we're going to get our man because failure isn't an option. EDIT: When Ainge boarded a flight to meet with Stevens he hadn't already been told "sure, I'm coming". He got on the flight thinking he'd have to fight to get his man.

I want Stevens as much as anyone, but it won't happen if we sit around twiddling our thumbs waiting for him to call. We have to say that's who we want, and we have to do what it takes to get him. Playing it safe will not get us anywhere, and we'll be left sitting around while Stevens is at a place that did pursue him and did what it took to get him. Hypothetical situation. What if you have to open up the coaching position to have a chance at bringing Stevens home? Do you do it? Do you fire Crean knowing you could strike out but you could hit it out of the park too?
-
Yeah, we're seeing a lot of "until someone better is available" and while I get the thought we're not going to get a great coach by sitting around twiddling our thumbs waiting for one to call us. We have to say enough is enough, and go and get them. UK wanted Cal, they went and got him. Alabama football hadn't been Alabama football for a while, but then they had enough and identified who they wanted and went after Saban.

What coach has done as little as Crean has in almost 20 years and then suddenly put it together? Sure he's done better here than he did at Marquette, but that doesn't mean he's the coach to get us where we should want to be.
-
I firmly believe that Glass will never get rid of Crean, I've never alleged otherwise. I didn't say Crean should be fired right this moment, I think he's earned one more year but I don't think Glass gives a crap as long as the name is Tom Crean. You're not looking at a full body of work. You're picking and choosing what sample size you want. He's been a head coach almost 20 years and has 3 conference titles and made it past the Sweet 16 once. That's not good. In you're sample he's also missed the NIT with 2 burger boys and a team he built himself. As I've said, he's had good coaching years here or there, but there is also plenty of years to the contrary. You're right, we both want a great coach. The difference seems to be how we go about getting that coach. It seems to be you want to wait and hope one comes available, but it won't happen that way because the great coaches, the home run hires we need, will never be without a job. We have to pursue them and do what it takes to get them, maybe we whiff but maybe we knock it out of the park.
-
I didn't say he should be. I can see giving him another year after this season, but one year is about it. His body of work is still what it is. Obviously I'm not on board with the "Crean's a good coach" wagon. He did a good coaching job this season, he's done good coaching jobs here or there his entire career. Sporadic years of good coaching doesn't make a good coach, and there is still a lot of evidence that he's not that good of a coach. I think he's capable of the occasional good coaching job but pretty mediocre on the whole. We can't just wait around and hope someone better will be available because the homerun coaches won't be in position where they need a job. We would have to pursue them and make a real and serious effort to land them knowing we could strike out.

The AD was giving it to him no matter what. Winless, burning down an orphanage on Christmas Eve, doesn't matter, this AD will always give him another chance.

I've asked a few times when they say enough is enough, and there's never an answer. My opinion, they never will reach that point because they like him as a person even though "nice guy" isn't part of the job description. I can't give him a pass for not having shooters or bigs, because he recruited those players and he put those teams together. Those teams were poorly constructed, very poorly, but it should fall 100% on him because he built those teams that way. That's part of recruiting.
-
How has one season done that? He's done good coaching jobs before, for a year or two here or there, that's nothing new. He has never once built on or sustained it, that is the problem and that is why this thread exists.
-
My opinion on Glass is known. We could've lost everything game and Glass would've kept him around with excuses to spare.
-
We can't just wait around though and hope he needs a job. Won't happen. We'd have to actually take the chance and pursue him and do what it takes to get him; we'll have to say screw it we're Indiana and aim for the cheap seats. And yes, that could mean opening the coaching spot up.

Yeah, I know that link is there for "unread content" and I know to click on the dot; I even mentioned it in my post. It's an extra, and frankly unnecessary, step that didn't exist before.
-
I don't mind the new look, but there is something I don't like. Under "recently discussed forum topics" if I click on a thread it just takes me to the very last post of the thread where before it would take me to the last unread post. I have to actually click on the tab for "unread content" to go to the last unread post. It's minor, but it's two steps where it used to just be one.

I'm not convinced it's "growth". No one has ever alleged that he's incapable of good coach jobs. One season doesn't mean he's grown as a coach, it means he did a good coaching job for one season which he'd shown before.
-
I'm as critical of Crean as anyone, I've consistently said one season will do nothing to change my opinion of him and I still 100% believe he is not the coach we need to reach the next level. That said, tonight isn't on him; UNC was just that much better.

I would love to pair Jennings with Buss in the backcourt.

Even 95 on we were top half of the conference (admittedly, sometimes just inside) and in the NCAAs every year. Then the bad coaching hires began.
