Completely agree. When Devries is asked about last season, his answers should be along the lines of "It was unacceptable. It was not good enough. It will not happen again."

I can’t say I like his interviews. Too vague with coach speak and not much conviction. I don’t expect Cig, but I’d like him to throw in some details here and there and show more confidence. More “we will” and less “want” and “try.” But, my read could be wrong and I don’t know what he’s like day to day running the program. The roster looks better and I don’t mind the summer hype. Hopefully the guy who beat a top 10 team at Phog emerges this year…

Yep. And to add to that: for the first time in my life… we’re what everyone is chasing. I don’t care if some school has a higher rated high school class than us… did they just go 16-0? And we can’t discount our big portal haul that’s technically very highly ranked. To be clear, I think analyzing the program is perfectly fine and interesting. I just can’t see much reason to get overly concerned about stuff like high school recruiting rankings.

I'd say most everyone trusts him with the keys to the team and are optimistic about what he and the staff can do with the roster However, in the off-season, we have nothing better to do than over-analyze from the couch.

That’s the second quote from devries I’ve read that is kind of a passive aggressive quip about not knowing anything about Sokolov. It seems he’s not a huge fan of the signing. Otoh, I’ve been told it’s conspiracy theory thinking if you suggest that Carr is anything but a direct report to Devries, so obviously Devries signed Sokolov without knowing anything about him. He must’ve done like I do with Amazon and occasionally order stuff drunk and then get surprised when it shows up 2 days later.

The difference there and problem for Devries is we are spending similarly, relative to each sport and our peers, in football and basketball. I.e were a top 10-20 spend in both. I think 8 seed is kind of my floor of expectations for this IU squad. I’m not sure I see any personnel limitations to that kind of season.
