WayneFleekHoosier got a reaction from Josh in Luke Goode (6’7” F) to INDIANA
Easy to spout all this. Let’s revisit this at the end of the season. There are a lot of really, really talented teams in the country this season. Some teams spent in abundance. Some spent wisely. The overseas market was tapped more than ever. The talent level in college hoops is at a different level with guys like Yaxel Landeborg who was sure-fire gone years ago back in college getting paid.
I’m thrilled we moved on from Woodson in every way. I don’t want his rosters. But I want more talent. Better talent. Proven talent.

Michigan and UK started anew last year and were both very successful. In the new world of NIL, it’s very easy to jumpstart a program in year 1….especially with a robust NIL, like we do. Different sport, point stands - see IUFB. We can admit the roster as it stands is underwhelming but also root like hell that we win and come out on top. I’m still cautiously optimistic we have a good year….but it will mean we need to stay healthy and our team adjusts to high level basketball….but I also have faith in DeVries. It would be a big disappointment if we did lousy…I don’t think that happens with a CDD team.

I’m on record loving it unless they make it stooopid. It’s fun. It’s just a mascot. Let’s have some fun with it.

I wonder if DeVries will take a look at Ristic's U-20 Serbian team mate 6'7" forward Pavle Nikolic. Jon Chepakevich (director of scouting for Draft Express.com said that Nikolic looked like a high major talent in Serbia's win over France (he put up 21 and 10 and is averaging 14 points and 7 rebounds in this year's FIBA tournament; last year at age 18 he played in the FIBA tournament for Serbia's U20 team and averaged 10.4 points and 4.7 rebounds).

I would have been shocked if he was approved at this late a date.

Per Rothstein, Greg McDermott says he’s going to coach 2-3 more years before handing it off to Alan Huss. I assumed when they made that move with Huss McDermott was doing 1 more year. 3 years would be a pretty long apprenticeship.

“To me, DeVries started well and he’s done well in turning programs around”.
I’ve got no problem with that.
To me, DeVries was a strong mid major coach at Drake and had a solid year, yet not spectacular year at West Virginia. I’m optimistic about him but don’t have any sort of extreme confidence. I think our roster this season has extreme question marks and some notable holes. We didn’t get some guys because we were outbid or didn’t go after other guys because they were asking to much. That comes down to balancing the budget. That also comes down to NIL being a factor still. Did we build the team we wanted or did we build the best team we could for 10 million. There is a difference. And that is ultimately my point in it.

Reports I've seen suggest we haven't missed a Thompson game. In fact, he goes up against Latrell Allmond's team this morning and 247 reported KJ staked out a front row seat before the teams even took the floor. Admittedly, it could be more for Allmond, but the fact is, he's got a front row seat which Thompson won't miss.

Im not sure what to make of this roster. I feel like every coach we’ve had in recent history has had a few glaring flaws and the following coach went crazy trying to solve for that that they created a new problem. We’ve been clamoring for shooters for years and seemingly we should have that but now lack size and rim protection.
hopefully coach got the roster he wanted and has a plan for how to use it

At the risk of oversimplifying things, it's a matter of
Having a generally competitive budget, Creating budgetary value as a product of relationships and the staff's ability to develop, and then Spending the budget wisely. -
WayneFleekHoosier got a reaction from Home Jersey in (2026) - PF Trey Thompson to Iowa
I think it’s more the cat and mouse with Murphy/Moibuko that slowed us down. But also the market. We thought 10 million would put us head and shoulders above the competition, but some of schools put up 15-20. Studs were going for 1 million the previous season. That went to 2-3.

So it was a money/NIL issue, not a negligent, unprepared from day one issue? In a perfect world, Moibuko and Murphy accept on the spot, but that’s life and the way this industry works. Rod Clark is a better recruiter than Moibuko and pushing the same tier as Murphy.

Genuinely curious how the fanbase (not the BTB sunshine pumpers) responds to this years team. Feel like it could be slow out of the gate and if not winning could be a rough start to things. Hoping for the Cignetti, pack the stadium by winning approach is the way it goes. It kinda feels like a school transitioning away from basketball and pivoting towards football. The fanfare and online enthusiasm for this team is as low as I can remember since Crean’s start. Clearly this isn’t Crean level talent but in a todays version of college basketball arms race we are behind the 8 ball. I can’t fathom a school touting itself as a top 10 NIL program building such an unheralded roster. For the millionth time this off-season I hope DeVries is a basketball savant and sees things the entire basketball landscape doesn’t.
