OT: Calipari close to contract extension through 2022

Recommended Posts

Coach John Calipari is close to signing a one-year contract extension with theKentucky Wildcats worth $8 million that would keep him with the team through the 2022 season. The news was first reported by Kentucky Sports Radio andconfirmed by ESPN.

The 56 year old coach, who was set to begin the second year of a seven-year, $52.5 million contract extension this summer, will earn a $1.6 million "longevity bonus" in July, according to KSR.

The move could quash speculation that Calipari would leave the school for the NBA where several of his former players are playing.

As many as seven members of the 2015 Wildcats team that won 38 consecutive games before losing to Wisconsin in the Final Four could leave for the NBA. Between the 2010 and 2012 seasons, 15 Kentucky players were drafted by NBA teams.

Kentucky's 2015 recruiting class includes two five-star prospects: 6 foot 10 Memphis prep star Skal Labissiere and Union, N.J., point guard Isaiah Briscoe.

They will play alongside returning senior forward Alex Poythress, who sat out the majority of the 2015 season with a knee injury

So basically, they are just adding 1 year to his contract and giving him $9.6 million for it... $1.6 now and $8 later.

Not a bad deal for either side. Cal making his cut, and UK quells some rumors (plus they can afford it).

Have they forgot that is taxpayers money?...I bet there are kids in Appalachia that could use shoes and books...maybe towards the oxycotine addicts...or let the people who worked their butts off, day in and day out to keep that money for they own households...but let's just keep throwing money at these elitist A-holes...as a matter of fact how bout the good people of Kentucky just fork over the tears of their first born so Cal can bath in some innocence...how refreshing....

...and yes I am pointing fingers at ALL these people who are using bread and circus to strangle everything that is good and wholesome from our culture.
