(Indicative of a lot of schools nowadays)

It really does suck.

For all the griping we did about our weak schedule, we still ended up with the 26th SOS. We played some TERRIBLE schools at the beginning of the year.

I'm reading Season on the Brink right now. I haven't done my research, but I'm assuming there weren't as many D1 programs in 85-86, but they started the season with Notre Dame, Kentucky, Kansas State, Iowa State, and Louisville.

Granted, they also had two "Classics" where they played two or three poop schools.

My email to Fred:

Wisconsin Basketball now represents everything Indiana Basketball should represent.

With far fewer resources, Bo Ryan has developed a team that would beat Tom Crean's team 100 out of 100 times. Ryan spends as much money recruiting annually as Crean does during two weeks in July. Ryan does not have a great practice facility. Wisconsin players do not get in trouble with the law. We cannot compete with Wisconsin despite the fact they do not cut their three or four worst players every year. When evaluating a coach's on-court success, all you need is a simple math problem. Quality of Coach = Success divided by Resources. Tom Crean has been consistently mediocre despite having incredible resources.

Beyond the losses, the biggest thing that will hurt next year is the sparse attendance at games. Find a coach that produces consistent winners despite not having resources. Find us a Bo Ryan. Don't look for a recruiter. Wisconsin, Gonzaga, Wichita St etc prove to us year in and year out that recruiting is vastly overrated.

Please give Indiana fans a reason to be proud of our team again. Find someone who fills Assembly Hall every night because the team plays great basketball.

Sincerely,

That's true. He's not. And the board and president should be flooded with emails too. It just seems like the media and the fans are as soft on this administration as our team is to the opposition. This **** doesn't roll at UK or UNC.

If we are upset at the university de-emphasizing the basketball program and ceding big time basketball to MSU, Wisconsin, UK, Lpisville, Kansas, Duke, etc, then they need to hear it.

I mean damn, Texas and St. Johns have higher expectations for their basketball program than we do.

Yeah, UNC's standards are so high. They're the pinnacle of excellence in college basketball these days.

Lol :)

Bozo the Clown could recruit for us. It's Indiana. Kids will want to play here. We just need a X's and O's Coach who teaches Defense and toughness. And can make halftime adjustments. And teach our players to beat a zone defense. Did I leave anything out?

They have been down lately and are still performing better than us.

By the way, their current coach has won TWO titles there.

Usually played that kind of non. con. schedule back in the day. Always had the "classics"  with weaker teams but usually brought something RMK wanted to coach against. The goal was clearly to play stiff competition which prepared you for conference play.
