Thoughts on the Games in Indy Last Night

I kind of laugh at the idea that Cal gets them to the NBA. My main question is do kids care more about simply getting into the NBA or being good players in the NBA? Kentucky has sent a lot of players to the NBA but only John Wall, Demarcus Cousins, and Anthony Davis are actually relevant players, and none really play for championship caliber teams

I don't really get how it is Cousins fault that Sacramento's management is an utter joke. Him and Davis are super stars in the NBA. They aren't the issues with their teams. Also, Washington is up there in the East

Yeah I think it's actually detrimental,to a player's NBA success early on, for a top 5 pick because the scrubby lottery pick teams pick them up. Also, Brandon Knight is having a pretty successful season, despite all his fails LOL. I don't think it's fair to expect everyone that actually makes the NBA to become a huge super star/allstar either. The fact that cal has churned out several is quite impressive (don't forget Rose/Evans).

I never said that Cousins or Davis were the problems with their teams. Although one could argue that Cousins is part of the problem in Sacramento, he's had the highest amount of technicals the last few years. Washington barely squeaked into the playoffs last year and being a decent team in the Eastern conference  isn't too much to brag about haha. But Those three are quality players, which was the main idea of my post, you kinda put words in my mouth

oops didn't see this post. I would argue they are more than quality players, those are centerpieces of their teams. I think eric bledsoe, terrence jones, patrick patterson, nerlens noel, MKG, and enes kanter are all "quality players" who are solid contributors.

he does have burnouts like daniel orton, liggins, lamb, etc

Yeah, Davis is probably the third best player in the league when everyone is healthy right now, seriously what he is doing at 21 years old is beyond amazing. Cousins is a top 15ish type player in the league. They're more than quality players

Hmmmmm, not so sure I agree with that one

You mean Cousins being top 15ish player, or them being more than quality? I get the Cousins comment, he benefits from playing at center which sucks in the NBA. But them being more than quality seems like an easy statement to make

I meant to say high quality players in my original post. I think Cousins, Wall and Davis are his Kentucky standouts. Bledsoe would be up there if the guy could stay healthy. The rest that you named would fall into the role player mode for me. I know not every player who goes into the NBA is going to be a superstar but thats kind of how Cal runs his program and how people view his program as a way for a player to be a super star in the NBA and I don't think that is the case. My biggest knit to pick is with Nerlens Noel, they guy is a niche player. He can block shots, but that is about it. I think he is the classic example of someone overhyped by the media.

I agree and never even mentioned recruiting. What I did say was them buying in to be role players which is coaching 101; team before self. There will never be a rule regarding platoon subbing as you can still only play 5 at a time. The only rule to stop his juggernaut would be a mandatory 2 or 3 year requirement to stay in college if you enroll. No more one and dones, but allow the kids to go pro straight out of high school.

Yea, thats what meant (on the rule change).

As much as i agree with that assessment You forgot about the Mathematics genius Eric Bledsoe.

He's pretty good.

Really all those guys were going to play in the league Cal or not. Just as Vonleh and Zeller were.

I'll give Coach Crean Olidipo.

So tired of UK's NBA-ready roster!

And I so miss Oladipo----and wonder who will be the next surprise player from IU that makes the jump?

ahh yeah, i gotchu. Sorry I wasn't trying to bust your balls over semantics.  I think it's an accomplishment to even become a role player in the NBA, because those guys truly are at the top of their profession/sport.  That being said, you're right in that not all of them turn into "superstars", although Cal pitches them that way before each draft.

As far as Cousins, his case is a tricky one, you could definitely argue he's putting up crazy good numbers and deserves to be an all-star, but being top 15 is a stretch because he is on such a crap team, everything is built around him now.
