Rapid Reaction IU vs. UM

Recommended Posts

What a weirdly beautiful game.  This game was like a one-sided soap opera.  The crowd booed Crean for his questionable decisions.  Well, it was mainly having Marlin, Etherington, Howard, and Perea on the court at the same time.  We controlled the game at both ends of the court throughout.  We shut down Stauskas.  The list goes on and on.  It was weird as hell.  Almost like the Wisconsin game, but only more dominating.  We are not 20 points better than that team.  But, we played the best game possible on the defensive end against that team, and quite possibly the best offensive game we could play.  We couldn't miss, and that ends with the good guys winning on CBS.

This was a team effort at both ends.  We controlled both ends of the court throughout.  I was not happy with Yogi being on Stauskas at the beginning of the game.  I thought it would make Yogi tired due to the amount of screens he goes through, which would hurt our best offensive option.  I also though he could shoot over Yogi.  I did not take into account his biggest need when shooting is spacing.  Yogi was fast enough to keep with him all day long, and fresh enough at the other end.  Great call by Crean.  We shot over 50%, and held them to 40%.  We had 31 boards to their 22.  We had only 13 turnovers.  We also went 8-13 (!) from 3 in this one.  C-O-M-P-L-E-T-E GAME in this one folks.

Individually, it starts with Yogi Ferrell.  That kid brought it at both ends.  He had 27 points on just 10 shots, while holding Stauskas to 6.  That in itself is amazing.  I know Will fouled out, and his numbers weren't gaudy, but he absolutely seemed to be everywhere on the defensive end.  I don't know how many times a UM player turned the corner, and he rotated to force the ball reversal.  It is something that doesn't show up in box scores, but is important in a game against a team like UM.  Noah bounced back to the tune of 10 points, 12 boards, and 2 blocks.  Stan had 7 in this one.  I left Evan for last.  He has really struggled lately, and he was huge today getting to the rim.  He played large today.  He ended with 8 points while doing a good job getting to the rim on the secondary break.

Outside of some techy issues, this was a great day.  The 2014 version of Jekyl and Hyde might not be done just yet.  They do enough to give us hope going forward, and then lay an egg at the most inopportune time.  We have 6 days off before we go to Minnesota.  This is a place where IU has had issues with.  Lets hope the team that showed up today is the team that shows up next Saturday.  If so we will see that team have a chance to walk out with a much needed road win.  I did want to end with an apology.  I know the frustrations you guys have are first and foremost.  The issues are being worked on.  They are equally frustrating for us.  We hope to have a long-term solution.  Mainly due to the inconvenience it causes.  But, the things you guys are lucky enough to not see is when these things happen the higher ups have to stop watching the game (and today it was when one of them was in Assembly Hall) to talk to tech-support.  It sucks.  We will do our best to keep you up to date, so you are aware when things will be even remotely different.  I think I can speak for the rest of this manly crew (minus Jayboob!) and say how sorry we are for the inconvenience!

Great job Mdn. Minus throwing me under the bus, while I got the site working again in the 2nd half :P!!! So yeah lol.

Something to add to your posts, is that Noah continues to impress me outside of points. I didn't watch the Nebraska game, but he works so hard no matter how many points he scores. To me, that shows how much he loves this game and wants to be the best!

Yep, that was my biggest beef in the Nebraska game.  He was not active at all.  7 points and like 3 boards with 5 TO if I remember correctly.  He got down on himself in that game.  He was 100 times better in this game.  We needed every bit of it.
