Sports Bullying or Best vs Worst

Recommended Posts

I think it's going kind of far at that level, it's high school.  If they were professionals making millions of dollars I'd say tough luck you should've stopped them.

Here's the real question though.  With our defense, which team will put 91 on us?

Not sure what people expect... When a good program plays a crappy one blowouts happen. At some point you need to look at the matchups of schools and say hey we won't play this game moving forward.

As for the game itself, you teach your players to play to the whistle and until the clock runs off. I have zero problem with it and anyone that does needs to evaluate what sports and competition are about. If your feelings get hurt losing by 93 then you probably shouldn't be playing sports in the first place.

If I lost by 93 is be so driven to NEVER let that happen again. If it happens to my child I'd say the same thing. The coaches already did a running clock, subbed out their better players etc. Football isn't like basketball where you can institute a 4 passes before a shot strategy. You either stop them or they score.

I went home over the weekend for fall break and watched my old high school play. It was 44-0 after the first quarter and the coach put in the JV team to play the rest of the game. They ended up winning 79-7 and it's the same concept basically. I agree that you either stop them or you don't. There is no point in kneeling the ball three times and punting it. If nothing else, it is good practice for the backups to prepare for following years in which they will be the starters. I don't think that it is bullying at all. I'd do the same thing as that coach.

Coming up playing sports I was always told if you don't want to lose or get blown out then do something to stop it.

Personally I'd rather lose by 100 then have my opponents let up and only lose by 50. It's more embarrassing when a team let's up on you.

Yup.  I was correct.  I'm on board with all of you.

The coach did everything in his power to slow down his offense.  You can't tell the 2nd/3rd string players to turn it off.  You can't.  They fight they butt's off just for those spots.  If they get a chance to turn it up, they will go full blast.

The bigger issue IMO is whining parents.  I bet the kids hated losing, but understood the situation.  It was mommy and daddy who were POed that little Jimmy got the pants beat off of him.  Hell, even the opposing coach said the game was played w/integrity and holds no ill will.

The coach pulled out his starters after the first 20 plays. The coach did everything he should have in my opinion. In the interview he even said he has been on the losing side. I don't think they did anything wrong. Yeah it is going to hurt losing like that but you can't always win.
