 He publicly stepped away from the limelight and a few of the last pictures of him out in public his appearance was kind of unkempt, so that’s not surprising. She was his sole caretaker I guess so when she went it was probably a rough go at the end for him. Very sad. 
 

That guy really had some great roles in some great movies even though he wasn’t the biggest “star “ of his time.
