Little 500 on cover of Washington Post

Recommended Posts

Was skimming through the Washington Post online today and this headline (with a video image of a team changing riders) jumped out:

It's a pay site but if you get it (or in print): https://www.washingtonpost.com/

Pretty cool to see the race and IU as a cover story -- I still miss the old stadium (and I'm in the audience, as a kid, at the race in Breaking Away)

To add to above, from my experience during Breaking Away --

At one point there was a scripted accident during the race, and a movie crew member ran out onto the track and poured a bottle of ketchup on the 'injured' rider -- Lol, a little low budget stuff. Didn't see the ketchup brand :)

Side note, my mom was a timer for the Little 5 a year or two later.

Still a fun movie, the whole Cutters thing and scripting of IU students as Ivey League snobs is hysterical.

I wish IU would sell the broadcast rights to a network so it could get the exposure it deserves.

I remember, before I really knew what it was, when HDNet (which is now AXSTV, started by Cuban) broadcast it. I doubt they got much viewership, but it was cool to look back on seeing that on TV after attending IU and realizing what it was all about.

Well, we're big bike lovers, we're not a bunch of cutters
And we're loved everywhere we go (that sounds like us)

We race around B-town and we never breakdown,

And we flex our muscles for show.

We take all kinda spills and get all kinda thrills

But the thrill that's better than hers

Is the thrill that'll getcha when you get your picture

On the cover of Btown Banners!
