Season continues a downward slide with a 9-1 pounding from Illinois in our B1G season opener.  Phillips started and went 2 innings and we went through 5 more before the day was done collectively giving up 9 runs on 9 hits, 7 BB and 2 hit batters.  Bothwell charged with the loss.  Our bats were cold and we had just 4 hits; Mathison had 2 of them.

Illinois wins 2 of 3 on the weekend pounding out a 15-8 win.  Our season record is now 12-12 and we start B1G play 1-2.   Kraft started and couldn't make it through the 1st inning giving up 4 runs on 3 hits one of which was a 2-run Illinois HR.  6 more Hoosier pitchers gave up 11 more runs and 17 more hits.  We walked a total of 9 batters as well.

Illinois scored 4 in the 1st and 8 more in the 3rd.  We finally scored a run in the 6th, added 2 more in the 7th and 5 in the 8th but it was too little too late.  We ended up with 10 hits getting 3 from Cerny and 2 each from Brenczewski and Mitchell.  Mitchell had 4 RBI.

Saturday, Foley was superb on the mound and backed up by good offense.  But in the Friday and today's losses, our pitchers gave up a total of 24 runs, 29 hits and 16 BB.

Tuesday night we host Middle Tennessee.  Next weekend it's a 4-game series vs. Butler.  Thursday night the teams will play in Indianapolis and return to Bloomington for a Friday night game and a Saturday doubleheader.
