Class of '66 Old Fart Posted April 22, 2023 Author Posted April 22, 2023 Jamie Shaw from Friday's EYBL Five-star SG Meleek Thomas – NH LIghtning 17u Meleek Thomas plays with a certain amount of electricity that is both exciting and productive. He is a very good point-of-attack defender, using his quick feet and hands to disrupt the point of attack. But he is also a fearless scorer. Thomas is routinely able to get to his spots in the half-court. He plays efficiently but also has skill with his counters off the bounce. Thomas also plays with great balance, always ready to pull up, no matter the level. Playing up an age level, he finished with 17 points and 4 assists, on 7-11 from the field. He is No. 3 in the 2025 On3 75. Danny Hurley from UConn was courtside. So were assistants from Kentucky and North Carolina. Four-star PF Caleb Wilson – Georgia Stars 17u Caleb Wilson was a stand-out at the USA Basketball minicamp. The 6-foot-9 power forward’s confidence is at an all-time high right now. Playing up in age, Wilson was a weapon at all three levels for the Georgia Stars. Wilson has long arms and a projectable frame, with a lot of room to continue growing. He has great touch that extends out beyond the three-point line off the catch. He was also comfortable getting to his right shoulder, showing pace and control on the block. Wilson is performing at a high level right now, and he still has some developmental room to grow, which makes him so interesting as a prospect. Jon Scheyer from Duke was courtside, along with assistants from North Carolina, Indiana, Houston, Tennessee, Clemson, Michigan, Georgia Tech, and more. Playing up in age, Wilson was the game’s leading scorer. Five-star CG Dylan Harper – NY Rens 17u It is one of those situations where you watch a player go through an entire game and make every right play. Dylan Harper was confident on the ball. The lefty has a crafty handle with excellent balance in the paint. What really stood out at Nike EYBL was the passing. Harper made several passes off the live dribble that were on target and on time to all levels of the court. A 6-foot-5, there was a comfort he showed on the ball. He also shot the ball well, knocking down multiple jumpers throughout the game. Harper is the son of five-time NBA champion Ron Harper. Harper has taken two official visits, Indiana and Duke. Auburn, Kansas, and Rutgers round out his top five. Quote

Class of '66 Old Fart Posted April 23, 2023 Author Posted April 23, 2023 From the EYBL event. Derrion Reid is having himself a big weekend On Friday night, one of the biggest topics of discussion on the sidelines was the play of 2024 four-star Derrion Reid. He had an explosive outing in which he hit six threes on Friday and so he took center stage against a stacked NY Renaissance team. After a rough first quarter, Reid found his rhythm again (not from three) and slashed his way to another big outing. For those unaware of Reid, he is a 6-foot-7 forward that is versatile, able to deck the ball and facilitate an offense but doesn't have a long-standing history as being a scorer. The scoring part is changing quickly this weekend, however. In his first two games, he scored 43 points and that's not the best part of his game. His biggest strength lies in his passing ability and despite some poor turnovers today, he still did plenty to catch the eyes of new programs that will soon begin calling his phone. AJ Dybantsa [We checked in on him during his high school season] There really isn't a headline you can place with AJ Dybantsa - he just is his own headline, despite being a rising sophomore and playing on the U17 circuit. To close out the night, Dybantsa & Co. took on The Skill Factory and he put on a show. A 6-foot-7 freshman with his length, frame, skillset, maturity and feel for the game are rare to say the least. He was beating these rising seniors off the dribble, getting to his pull-ups, creating separation, rebounding and creating for his teammates. The vision, passing and decision making had to be the most impressive part of his entire game. He's an elite talent and a player that absolutely belongs in the conversation of best prospects in all of high school with Cooper Flagg and Cameron Boozer. Quote

Class of '66 Old Fart Posted April 25, 2023 Author Posted April 25, 2023 Bossi from the 3SSB event. Rakease Passmore, SF, Garner Road- When it comes to raw, explosive athletic ability there just aren’t many who can touch Passmore. A four-star who currently ranks No. 41 nationally, the 6-foot-5 wing is an electric finisher at the rim when he gets a head of steam. He still has some work to go on developing his ball handling, but he is turning into a versatile defender and impressed with how much he’s improved his range and efficiency with catch and shoot opportunities. He’s fresh off of an official visit to Oregon and has 15 or so high major offers for a good reason. Demo 1 Quote
