Live Stats

Indiana men's soccer (0-1-0) kicks off a four-match homestand Tuesday (Aug. 30) night when it hosts the Portland Pilots (0-0-1) at 8 p.m. ET on Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium. The match can be streamed live via the Big Ten Plus digital platform.

Tuesday's match is Teacher Appreciation Night at Bill Armstrong Stadium as kindergarten through 12th grade teachers and school staff are eligible to purchase $5 tickets. The program will also have a 50th Season poster giveaway.

SETTING THE SCENE
• Indiana's upcoming homestand consists of four straight matches against opponents that reached the NCAA Tournament last season.
• IU owns a 345-69-64 record all-time at Bill Armstrong Stadium. The Hoosiers went 11-3-0 at home last season thanks to a run of nine straight home wins to close the season.
• Indiana owns a 31-10-8 (32-10-8) record in home openers all-time. IU is undefeated in its last 11 such matches, with wins in 10 and a seven-match winning streak. The Hoosiers have lost only once in their last 20 home openers going back to 2002.

ABOUT THE PILOTS
• In 2021, Portland owned an 11-7-1 record and made the NCAA Tournament for the third time in six seasons. The Pilots defeated Seattle in the first round, 3-2, before falling to Washington, 3-1.
• The Pilots are led by seventh-year head coach Nick Carlin-Voigt. Carlin-Voigt has compiled a 56-34-11 record at Portland.
• Portland was picked as the preseason favorite to win the West Coast Conference regular season title, finishing first in the annual WCC Preseason Coaches Poll.

SERIES HISTORY
• The series between Indiana and Portland sits tied at 2-2 coming into Tuesday's match.
• The two programs last played each other in 2001, a 1-0 win for the Pilots.
• The series' most famous match was in 1988 in the NCAA Tournament semifinal. Portland came into the match undefeated at 21-0 after allowing just six goals all season, but Simon Katner's 44th minute goal was the difference in IU's 1-0 win. The contest featured an intriguing goalkeeper matchup between Indiana's Juergen Sommer and Portland's Kasey Keller, who both eventually had great success in their professional careers. IU went on to win its third NCAA National Championship that season.

There was one problem tonight and one problem only. Bryant Pratt the goalie.

Offense was very good and defense only allowed five shots. Problem was Pratt was completely out of position and should of saved two of them. You should always be able to count on your goalie to make 1-2 nice saves a game and Pratt not only made none but conceded two soft goals that could of been stopped.

IU needs to ride JT Harms full time who has looked like the better goalie since spring and has allowed no soft goals and made several nice saves. I rarely am critical of Yeagley but switching goalies tonight cost them the draw. Harms starts and you likely win 3-1 or at very worst 3-2.

IU has all the tools to be great and as long as they stick with Harms it will be a good season. You go with Pratt season could be dicey.
